On the Road to Samadhi, Yogic Powers That Arise Must Be Shunned | Sri Ramakrishna

- Sri Ramakrishna’s teachings on the perils of exercising occult powers and why he did not use them to cure his throat cancer.
In this continuation video of our “Teachings of Sri Ramakrishna” series, we visit his advice to sadhaks regarding yogic, psychic or occult powers. As a sadhak makes deeper and deeper forays towards the goal of God-realization (Samadhi), certain yogic powers naturally begin to manifest within him or her. When this happens, many sadhaks get caught up in trying to exercise and utilize such powers.
However as Sri Ramakrishna has cautioned in this video, genuine devotees of God instead of utilizing such yogic powers, should instead forcefully reject and shun them. There are 2 sound reasons for this, which have been outlined and enumerated in this video. Upon going through these reasons, we would have gained the necessary perspective based upon which we can proceed to further discover:
1. The real reason why Sri Ramakrishna did not utilize occult powers to cure his throat cancer, despite possessing numerous such capabilities.
2. The 2 qualities that separate genuine gurus from fakes.
3. And finally, how genuine gurus do not abandon their disciples after death, but continue to guide them across multiple lifetimes until they attain to Moksha.

THE RAMAKRISHNA KATHAMRITA (GOSPEL OF RAMAKRISHNA)
The above video references two books. The first is the Ramakrishna Kathamrita by Swami Abhedananda, and the second is the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna by Mahendranath Gupta or “M”.
Both these books record the same day-to-day teachings of Sri Ramakrishna. Swami Abhedananda’s book is merely a shorter, abridged version of the original, longer and more detailed one by Mahendranath Gupta. In fact it was Mahendranath Gupta, who first jotted down the teachings of his guru in the Bengali language, as he heard them being spoken by Sri Ramakrishna during his many visits to Dakshineswar. Mahendranath’s Bengali notes were later translated into English by a couple of people, one of whom was Swami Abhedananda, another yogi and direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna.

@@harki804 yes. Adding on to it, what I have understood from the Gospel of holy Mother is, when they initiate a disciple, they accept the sins of that disciple. So, the disciple here us protected from being attacked by the fruits of their sins. Thus, The Guru undergo it.
@@mehulnilawar3588 no, sri ramakrishna had no residual karma. He was already completely liberated (an avatar has no residual karma). Often times, such realised masters use their body to work out the karma of their disciples : )

Sri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa is truly Paramhamsa in the strict sense of the term. Siddhis or occult powers rolled under the feet of Paramhamsa yet he never looked at it. That's the true spirit of Paramhamsa. Mere remembering of God or enchanting His glory is enough instead of attaining the occult power circus is good for nothing and in fact , it is an obstacle in the spiritual journey. Beware of occult powers! These powers created by God himself to test his devotees. If you follow the occult powers; then you are being trapped in the net of desires, greed and lust for powers. A true yogi is one who is free from Kanchana, Kamini and Keerti. Such occult powers deviate your spiritual journey or quest and make you materialistic instead of spiritual. Glory to Paramhamsa.
Excellent video. It made me happy to watch this honest take on Indian spirituality on the internet. You are doing an important service. We badly need this in India - it is the spiritual birthright of all born in this land and the sooner we return to real yogic practices, the sooner will all of society benefit.

This video made me cry. I was lead to this path because I was very sick and longed to heal myself. I've improved somewhat, but my mobility kept deteriorating, I was able to manifest the desires of others but have consistently fallen to poverty and despair. I thought I was being punished....now I know Maa Kali was instead protecting me from my own ego. I don't know if I'll ever be well, but now I realize it doesn't matter. Bless you for making this.

I loved the comparison between fake and genuine gurus .its so common nowadays tricking people into it
I wish more people had this knowledge. I live in the US where people self-identify as gurus and will fake psychic/occult powers to gain followers and take their money. I think the people are genuine in their desire for spiritual development but they don’t take the time to educate themselves.

When Samudra Manthan was done, siddhis came out first while amrit came out at the end. While the asuras were distracted by siddhi, lord vishnu continuously emphasized to devas to keep their attention on amrit alone.

I must ask: How do artists (writers, musicians, or filmmakers) adjust for their creative passions? Is an artist who has attained power forced to work extra-hard to maintain god-realization without pride/fame etc? Is the only way to be a genuine artist by not making too much money for their work? Is it possible for an artist to stay true on their path to god-realization by rejecting their powers that might otherwise inform their art? How does one reconcile the desire to be an artist while at the same time attaining powers through their practice along the path? Must one constantly reject fame/fortune etc. if it comes to them? May they accept such recognition for their powers as perceived through their art without it becoming prideful and interfering with god-realization? Thank You Spiritual Bee 🐝. Namasté

Healing people is not a good idea, when you know karma. The healer is taking on the suffering of the one being healed.
It is better to show the path of healing to be walked to the one in need of healing.
But healing someone is not evil if u do not get money in return,i think watch someone suffer is evil if u can do something about it,heal through love💜
I agree with that, and that was my problem with this video. I get the point about not seeking pride, but not helping someone in need when you can without causing more damage otherwise, is a pretty douchy thing to do
You shouldn’t use your powers to interfere with someone else’s Karma. Otherwise you will incur Karma from that. You have free will and you can do what you want with your powers, but keep in mind that there is always Karma tied to our actions.

Thanks for making &/or Sharing this video. Speaking about that disease cancer, what if that disease was NOT due to karma but due to a Curse? If any disease or disorder is
afflicted because of a curse given by a higher-being then, in my opinion, there is no Yogi who, despite being able, will break/undo that curse with the use of any Yogic-power(s)/Siddhi(s) & thus cure the disease. You may be aware of an Indian mythological story about Jay & Vijay the gate-keepers of Vaikuntha, the abode of Lord Vishnu, being cursed by the Sanaat Kumaras (or by 1 of them). Lord Vishnu being omnipotent (all-powerful/all-capable) could have easily undone the cursed given by the Sanaat Kumaras (or by 1 of them) & thus relieved Jay & Vijay but HE did not do so. Hence this could also be the reason why respectable Shri Ramakrishna did not cure the cancer.

Thank you for a wonderful knowledge. But, I have a question. I understand that one should not use yogic power that one attains by achieving samadhi. Hence, shri Ramakrishna paramhansji did not use the power he had to cure his throat cancer. But, then, my question is, wasn't the "take away the sins of the devotees" or "not following utmost precautions to avoid such take away of sins from devotees" the kind of use of yogic power, was it? Please give more knowledge about it.

Think you have misunderstood . The human body is the only medium through which one can attain self realization , as such it needs to be preserved . Yogis who had done penance in jungle might have saved themselves from beasts through Yogic powers . Point is not to misuse or get carried away .
I agree, but what if the powers are used to help other realize God? Like the powers Sri Yukteswar displayed for Paramahansa Yogananda.
it can be used to help others but they should be genuine and should be deserving enough to receive divine help.
So should one not use his abilities to better his own life? For say the modern man who realizes he is the master of his own life, and is working to attain is that ok to attain worldly goals

about atma before and after birth I mean BEFORE = even before baby what vll happen to tat atma 👻
Seems like a cop out to keep people from realizing the beings that operate on those wavelengths and thus keeping humanity slavish subservient to the beings that have progressed very far along the path of evolution of said abilities. Including the alleged gods, demi gods, etc. The strange thing of all of it seems to be more that the more one progresses along the spiritual path the more those powers natural manifest. To the point where having abilities that aren't disciplined might have accidental or potentially harmful backslashes.
It also seems like a cop out for all the various organizations that exist including the brahmanic secret societies that use said powers for the retention of their Pharisee like control schemes. Using said abilities to generate an unfair advantage over non initiates for exactly those reasons just listed, greed, wealth, power over others, isolating those society members to generate loyalty above morality, maintaining a firm control over their respective populations etc. Its an old trick.

What if you can't help it? I just can't help it... they seem to manifest when I need them... my challenge now is to learn to heed them, control them and properly assign them but I absolutely cannot stop certain phenomena... it is shocking when it occurs but they manifest when I am in most need...and when I am walking in complete faith...

there is no difference between bhaktas and God. Alll are having the same soul.
God is not some external person bestowing spiritual powers to a bhakta. These come naturally as bhakta ascend to a higher consciousness. The higher our consciousness the closer we reach our soul, which is one with God. And the soul being an infinite ocean of consciousness has infinite powers - it can bring whole Universes into existence!
