    The only problem I see is that this box can't be used with older R-G-B connections, but I guess that can be accomplished through the smart tv connections. Am I correct in assuming this? Right now I have a syncing problem with the audio/video. After watching the tv for 2-3 hours, the syncing starts to lag. I have tried contacting Comcast and LG the maker of the TV and have not been able to correct it. I have an older Comcast set-top box( 10 years old) and am hoping that upgrading to the new xg1v4 box will correct this. Have you experienced any latency problems with the older box?

      If your DVD recorder has RF coaxial ports, yes. Connect a cable from the RF OUT/CABLE OUT on this box to the RF IN/CABLE IN on the DVD recorder. Then connect an RCA or a HDMI cable between the DVD recorder and the TV. Turn the units on and set to your TV to the input where the DVD is connected. Set the DVD to the CHANNEL 3 or 4 (where your Comcast box outputs). You can only record on DVD what channel your box is set to (there is no way to timer-record different cable channels or to record and watch different channels at the same time). If your DVD recorder is tunerLESS (no RF coax port), you cannot do recording from this box as it has no composite RCA output (you actually can by using an old VCR in between as an RF demodulator/tuner). Please note that if you also have a direct HDMI connection from the Comcast box to the TV you may need to leave the TV on while you record something to DVD to avoid the error “your TV does not support HDCP” on the recording.

    They are behind Tivo with 4K since the Tivo Bolt released a year or 2 ago. TiVo upscales to 4K and has a good few 4K streaming services. Only thing is TiVo Bolt isn't HDR, mainly because it was released before HDR became a big seller. I predict TiVo to release a newer version with HDR soon. As a fellow Comcast customer, they are still behind the competition with TV and Internet. I mean, 42mbps upload speed on their Gigabit internet lol.

      @JediMastr80 Před 4 lety

      If you have Xfinity as well, you might keep some of them that are backed up on your Cloud DVR (automatically done) but yes, you would lose most of them.
      This is one reason I haven't replaced my main X1 DVR box we got back in 2015 because we'd lose them all.
      Trying to back them up using an Elgato Game Capture Card (originally bought for recording PS3 and other video gameplay) takes a long time.
      I wish something like the HDHomeRun Prime 6 was out, then I'd just get a cablecard from Xfinity and back up my recording using that (and using Channels DVR that I set up with Emby).

    I upgraded to this and it's kind of just OK. The upscaling is OK at best, and it's only really good for Netflix 4K. When watching HD channels, you will see some pixelation and some blotchy black areas due to lack of upscale quality. Yes, it is 4K ready but with no 4K channels, it's no big whoop. It also doesn't work with Harmony remotes out of the box. You have to unpair the companion remote in order to get IR to work, plus you have to set the IR blaster directly in front of the box in order for the Harmony remote to work without hiccups. The best thing is that it is future safe with HDR, Dolby Atmos and the DVR has more space (and it is expandable via USB 3.0). The aesthetics are pleasing as well, however, the companion remote is horrendously hard to use; the button membranes are stiff and hard to execute. We put that one away and kept the old one. I guess i expected more. Rumor is that there is another 4K box with more features, that is currently being tested internally with employees, such as this one was a few months back. This box just gets your ready for future 4K options. Right now, there isnt much.

      The Fanriot So glad you posted this. I spent an hour the other day trying to get a Control4 remote to control this box with no success. Now I'll have an answer for my client when I go back tomorrow. So this means that if I want to control the box via IR, I'll no longer be able to use the voice commands from the Xfinity remote, correct?

      @troymuni6120 Před 6 lety +1

      I just got mine last night and everything you posted is accurate. I also wanted to add that I have a current generation Darbee Darblet and it renders it useless if you set the box to 4k. I knew the Darbee didn't support 4k, but wanted to test it to see what happens. For those that don't know, the Darbee is a very inexpensive video processor that enhances your picture using a contrast effect. I put my cable box back to the 1080p60 setting because the upscaling was so bad. Picture looks 100x better at 1080 with the Darbee on my OLEDB7A. Even without the Darbee plugged in, the TV does a better job. The cable box is still worth getting because it's free.

    You don't need the network input for anything. On demand and Netflix both work with the coaxial input. Netflix will work in 4k through the box without the Ethernet connector. I use mine for 4k and have never had a network cable plugged into it.

      Yes, if you want more than 500GB, currently, Comcast requires you to rent a 2nd DVR box. It's all about getting as much money out of the customer as possible. Other than having to deal with those ancient CableCards, if you want more storage Tivo is still the better choice.

  • @stephenassante4071
    @stephenassante4071 Před 2 lety +2

    There is a HUGE jump in picture resolution from 720 or 1080p & Upscaled 2160p! (That you CAN also get from the Xi6 boxes w/ some extra work from additional equipment add-ons on your part; But it's somewhat a PITA!). The Xg1v4 gives you the additional connection ports that the "Wanna Be" 4K Plex boxes don't have . As far as Netflix goes Amazon Prime has some material that is every bit as good as Netflix 4K. The only thing I don't care for is how just about everyone is so crazy about Dolby Atmos or Dolbyvision these days. The Music Industries tried Dolby years ago & found it a bit lacking (Thank God they had the ears to not accept the damage Dolby does to the Full Frequency Audio Spectrum). Higher Bit Rate PCM works just fine for anything! (Except explosions I guess !)

    Just received this box today and it appears to be stuck in some type of loop. It gets through the welcome screen but then a screen pops up asking if I want to continue using voice recognition. It's locked up there and there is nothing I can do to get past it. Half hour tech support was useless. I had to schedule a technician visit in a couple of days. Likely this box will need to be replaced and I can almost guarantee the tech will NOT have a replacement on the truck.

    • @Mr01dschool
      @Mr01dschool Před 4 lety

      Comcast does not allow you to add extrernal drives to their X1 boxes. If you want additional storage you need to ask to rent additional DVR boxes which will cost $20/mo per box. Also depends on what region you have service in. Some regions may not allow you to rent additional DVRs. Some areas may have a limit to how many DVRs you can rent. Also some areas may limit you to only one of these 4K capable DVRs. Either way the point still stands that the option to add external storage to any X1 DVR is disabled by Comcast.
