Why this channel?
I plan to show you how other nepenthes growers from around the world grow their plants on their windowsill and grow tent.
If you are interested and want to show us your plants, contact me so that I can set an interview.
(All you need is a recent smartphone and a good WiFi, I'll take care of the software).
Happy growing everyone!
Remy.
Omg yes!! Thank you for making a video on your care routine!
Of course!! 😉
We really have to support this channel
@@florinvoicufv That would be very kind :) . There is the THANKS button on the video or you can buy tee-shirt, mugs, etc. You can even share my videos with your friends so I get more subscribers :) So many ways you can help me :)
It’s gratifying to finish a row of nepenthes: trimming, staking, dividing, repotting, fertilizing, dispersing beneficial insects, drinking coffee, etc.
I totally agree 👍
I didn’t realize you were growing the Spanish moss. I thought it was just kind of like a decoration. Man, you could fill your house up to the ceiling with all the Spanish moss I have in my yard in north Florida! Come down and get it all! Hahaha it’s always dropping out of my trees into my yard and I have to move it to cut the grass.
Love the coffee(machine)... I can relate (we have all the same addictions ;-) )
Can overfeeding an already dying pitcher be a good booster for future pitcher growth for the plant?
Also, I always feel like I’m over watering my Veitchii because it’s not in a plastic net pot like my St. Gaya, where the air can constantly hit all the sphagnum moss around it and dry it. I’ve watered my Veitchii too much before and the pot was heavy. I resort to constantly lightly spraying the top of the sphagnum moss with rainwater. And doing a lift test with the pot to make sure it’s not too heavy.
Yes overfeeding a dying pitcher helps. And for the watering, I also try to reduce it, especially in the grow tent.
I really need to get some live sphagnum moss one of these days.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Love your video. I bought my first Nepenthe and the tickey on it said `ASIAN PITCHER PLANT` and the instruction on the back said Light: medium light, Water: keep soil evently moist. My questions for you Is: is it ok to keep it on the Windowsill, and should I keep a water tray under it all the time ? Thank you in advance for you answers.
A simple sauce under the pot would be ok, it's just to raise the humidity around. But keep the pot from touching the water. ;) Sunny South windowsill is great even if it's full sun for 2-3 hours.
Tendrils really do love to grow in the most inconvenient places, its kind of comical.
For sure, you always have to check haha
So you wait to feed the pitcher until they are dying? Will feeding young pitchers cause them to die prematurely?
Your neps are on such good display! How do you create these moss islands?
It's literally what you see in this video: spraying twice a day with sunlight... and time ;)
Excellent video as usual Remy! What is that gadget you used to measure the fertilizer water?
It's a TDS metre ;)
Is it important to support the vine or is it OK to let them hang? Or does it depend on the species?
On vining species, yes supporting the vine is better. In forests they will grab what's available around them or lay on the ground.
@@WindowsillNepenthes don't all nepenthes vine?
@@sophiatedaldi4436 Let's just say they don't all vine UP. Some link most of N. veitchii will tend to crawl on the ground. ;)
Do you use Max sea fertilizer? l Ike your Spanish moss. I have tillandsia growing here and there in my green space 🍃🍃😙🍃🍃
No, MaxSea is hard to find in Canada. And I'm testing something that should work better. Video coming in a few months. ;)
Sir, which direction is this favorite window of yours facing ? East ?
Can you please recommend what the type on grow lights you have ? Thank you
South facing window is the best. For grow lights, I personally use Sansi grow light because it's convenient. :) czcams.com/video/qz4B-_sSzog/video.html
Hi I have a question about the green leaf-like part of Nepenthes. With one of my plants, these do not develop and remain closed in. Could she have too much light? Humidity shouldn't really be a problem.. Maybe you can help me :) Thank you so much ❤
The leaves don't open or you are talking about the tendril not developing and growing a pitcher?
The leaves won‘t open
@@sabrinabreitenmoser4053 can you send me a picture on Facebook or Instagram? That could be a lot of things...
I have been searching the internet for information about how much to dilute the fertiliser, but i find nothing. I have fertiliser for cactus and it says: 20 ml in 1 liter. How much should i use for Nepenthes? Hope you can give advise. Thank you so much in advance! ❤
I know nothing about cactus fertilizer... But cactus are less sensitive to minerals than Nepenthes, you need to use a fertilizer for sensitive plants like orchid. I'm afraid it's not about the dilution...
You need blooming fertilizer for orchids if you don't have maxsea. You need the lowest nitrogen possible if you can as it's the nitrogen preventing pitchers. And low PK from blooming fertilizer just means Nepenthes doesn't really need fertilizing especially if they can catch their own food. Also about mixing, you need TDS so you can check your dilution to 100 and less. That's usually the recommended dosage for carnivorous plants just to be safe. Others buy freeze dried insects, ground them and put them to pitchers. That's on the natural side.
@@JL_Loki Do you have a source about this nitrogen preventing pitchers? (I'm interested, it's not a joke). Because I spoke with some one who gives a lot of nitrogen and he has a lot of pitchers. I'm even testing his technic ;)
Hi Remy, do your pitchers all have water inside? When mine were outside they were filled with water and now that they are Iin the house no water! I brought them in the house so they can eat the bugs in the house (I've got a lot of bugs in the house) and it started to work immediately. the pitchers were filled with bugs when there was water in them. Now they have stopped making pitchers (must be adapting to the new environment) Is it ok to water the pitcher?
Yes you always have digestive fluid in them. Maybe your house is too dry?
@@WindowsillNepenthes yeah thanks I will start spraying them
should I be concerned if the pitcher is fused with the leaf? no tendril forms and i'm worried since about half the leaves are developing like this.
Maybe you have a nepenthes with'winged' tendril
Depends on the species, for example n. Ampullaria doesn't make tendrils 😉 And as long as you have a pitcher, the plant is happy 😁
@@WindowsillNepenthes oh okay that makes sense. It's a nepenthes x Hookeriana. Thank you for your reply! Your the best!!
I was wondering what I can feed my nepenthes now that it’s close to winter. I was thinking going to the local pet store and getting crickets or I’ve heard you can use fish food or should I go with Maxsea…?
I go with liquid fertilizer but pet store could be an option ;) More expensive tho
I think I’ll go with doing the orchid feed like you do any specific orchid feed? What kind of dilution ratio should it be? And I will get a meter reader. 145 ppm?
@@DeadlyPlants2024 I spray once a week orchid fertilizer diluted to 150 ppm
@@WindowsillNepenthes can I use Tetra goldfish pellets to feed my basal growths?
The basals are getting bigger with 2 pitchers each, I can separate the parent and replant the parent?
@@DeadlyPlants2024 I don't know these pellets but that should be good. And for the basal, sure you can separate them. czcams.com/video/oFucBnEQ5C8/video.html
Hello there! Do you water your plants only with rainwater?
Yes, or melted snow. If I really don't have any water, I'll use reversed osmosis water. ;)
@@WindowsillNepenthes I live in a tropical city in Rio de Janeiro Brazil we hardly ever have some rain 🌧 here:(
@@alexandremalek3813 oh, then a reverse osmosis system will be important. You can also test the PPM of the tape water, but you never know when the city will use chemicals to clean the system risking damaging your plants.
I'm wondering why people say I shouldn't fertilize and spray the carnivorous nepenthes' leaves.
Don't listen to them, they generalize. In a terrarium that can be bad because of the poor airflow, but at the end of the day, the problem isn't spraying but the poor airflow...
