    Thank you for all the knowledge. Looking forward to the grow tent content. I have a small grow tent for my plants with a humidifier and fan. All my plants have put out a new pitcher on every new leaf and have had several leaf jumps since being put in the tent. I'm excited to see how yours do.âœŒđŸœ

    This is very interesting and shows how much genetics and personal care affect the end result.
    I grow burbidgeae, jacquelineae, lowii and a bunch other highlanders in a totally different way than what works for you; they're in a tray in open air so low humidity, 12h of very bright light per day, and get a weekly spray of fertilizer with occasional coffee.
    So far so good, with 2-3x leaf jumps and systematic pitchering. I think by knowing your conditions and understanding your plants, you can get away with a lot!

    I'm excited to see how the tent project goes. I have Nepenthes starting this year on both a window sill and in a grow tent. I have mine in the grow tent sitting in a tray with light diffuser similar to yours but concerned that it is just too much moist at 75-80% humidity and having a moisture tray.

      For my understanding, you need airflow like a fan moving this humid air ;) But we will interview a few Grow Tent growers and learn a lot together ;)

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  Pƙed rokem

      Sorry but I know nothing about nematodes pests, but I heard about an insecticide called "nematicides" that could help you.

    • @samconrad6053
      @samconrad6053 Pƙed rokem +1

      not a nepenthes expert but i studied plants in school. nematodes are extremely difficult to get rid of once established, as their eggs will hatch at different rates in the substrate. Nematode infections begin because of poor sterilization of soil and infected tools, they can live in almost all soils for many years before starving. You will want to remove all substrate and replace it with stuff you know isn't contaminated. you will also want to inspect the plant's roots for galls, as these will need to be removed, they may contain sexually mature nematodes. and finally nematicides can be used, but i have no idea what types are available for potted plant usage, as most brands i know of are licensed for commercial use. i hope you can get a handle on the issue!! good luck!

    Just yesterday I decided to nab a ventrata I saw in the store cause why not, it was €8 originally but 40% off.
    I thought it'd be able to survive the bus ride back home since it'd only be exposed to brief cold temperatures.
    Unfortunately, 45 minutes of -6°C was enough to really mess it up lmao. Growth point and all the leafs are rubber-y and floppy. It's still green but the plant itself doesn't look like it's gonna pull through. The fastest I've ever killed a plant ngl 😂

    I'm actually surprised the lowii didn't like your windowsill cause temperature wise it's on the colder side, but lowii also need really high humidity so I'm guessing that was the biggest issue.. also what are you gonna do with that thing when it starts making pitchers the size of your humidity domes lmfaooo

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  Pƙed rokem

      Yes the humidity was the problem. And I'll have a grow tent soon so it will be fine for a few years, especially since highlander are slow to grow. ;)

    • @WindowsillNepenthes

      Do you mean spraying them with water? it will depend on your species, the humidity in the room and if there is enough airflow for the leaves to dry.

    Hello man, i have a verry big nepenthes. I just bought it it looked verry good. But I placed it into my greenhouse and it is verry hot 30degrees celcius and verry sunny. I do water it a lot, with demineralised water. It now seems to.turn almost completely brown, mainly the leaves not really the pitchers, also the growing top is burned. Is this because it has way to much heat/sun? It came out of a store and stood indoors so I believe it may have not been used to such massive light and heat. I just now put some plasyic wrap arpund the intire plant. So it gets les intens sun, and keeps more moist around the leaves. I would like to send a picture but I can't on youtube comments. Do you think the plant will die, what would be the best to save the plant? Do you have an email to send a photo of it?

      Hello thanks for the fast awnser. My humidity is right now 87% but it's dark and evening. The temperature is now 13 degrees Celsius. In day time the humidity maybe gets around 40-60% and the temperature to about 30 or even more when it's sunny hot wheater. When it's cloudy the temp is 15 to 20.
