As hilarious as "triggered by carbs" is, Ryan and Anji's behavior is appalling. Dismissing people because they don't agree with you by questioning their motivations not only ruins any chance for honest discussion, it also looks ridiculous to anyone who isn't part of the "keep it carbed" cult. No reasonable person would question someone's vegan-ness, particularly when that someone has a youtube channel dedicated to promoting veganism.
If my arguments are so poor, they should be easy to counter. That Ryan and Anji have to rely on taking me out of context and questioning my character says everything. And that they can misread studies so badly to think the conclusions support their dogma makes discussing nutrition with them futile.
This will very likely be my last response to HHV, since they've made it clear with this and past responses to me that they have no intention of engaging honestly. I hope they can break free of the low fat dogma one day, but I won't hold my breath.

+NatuHealth I agree. Black and white thinking is a sign of lower emotional intelligence. It's not about taking sides dude, it's about giving credits to whomever deserves it and criticizing the misinformation on whichever side to spread better understanding of the topics discussed.
Not criticizing veganism is not realistic, people are waking up one day and decide to be 'happy healthy' by eating rice and beans is not realistic. Questioning the unquestionable things and making people 'think for themselves' even if it's wrong based on defined terms is the way to come to the conclusion that will result change in behavior over time.

I'm happy to hear you're eating better! I love when people watch cool vegans like UV and make changes in what they eat.
I think some day, science will progress to the point where we really can live in a "Star Trek vegan" world (where all kinds of meat and dairy can be grown like in a lab, without any animals ever being killed or hurt) but meanwhile, if more and more people make even small changes that are more humane, these changes all add up and help reduce animal suffering.
So greetings to everyone who reads this. . . even now, two years later. . . Even if you're not vegan, you can always make some humane changes to what you eat or wear😘

"Troll" was such a brilliant metaphor in the early days of the internet, when it was a VERB, derived from the fishing technique. Someone who "trolled" a USENET group, a "troller" I suppose, was typically writing absurdly offensive content that they themselves didn't believe, in order to create a shitstorm of outrage for their and others' amusement. It meant dragging your lure along and seeing who bites. Illiterate morons who don't know that meaning of "troll" changed it to the ugly, evil creature, despite that metaphor not really making any sense.

An interesting note, the healthiest vegan I know (most active, healthiest looking, healthiest in general), has been vegan for over 20 years, raised both of her healthy children vegan, and she often eats eats low-carb, high fat and high protein, and does 'keto' sometimes. Vegans are being made to be afraid of clean plant-based protein and fat and that's not a good thing.

No Name I'm a vegan. And I'm a vegan thanks to her. Finding this channel was a turning point for me as I hesitated for a long time due to never quite being convinced that it's a healthy diet. The way she presents facts and arguments was incredibly appealing to me, whereas when watching channels like that vegan couple's, I was turned off by their passive aggressiveness and a feeling that I was being forced into doing something, which pushed me away. Hated Vegan Gains as well and thought he was a psycho. Now that I'm actually vegan, this channel along with vegan gains' channel (surprisingly) are the only ones I can bear and watch regularly. Different approaches work for different people. I'm not into psychotically chirpy people who tell me that my digestive tract is long, therefore I'm a herbivore. I'm comforted by facts and not being lied to. I don't like sugarcoating either. Knowledge is power. Present reality to me and it will best arm me to make good decisions for my health. Ethics are number one for me too, and UV always does an amazing job presenting those arguments.

    • @goldsilverandiamonds
      @goldsilverandiamonds Před 7 lety +1

kat kat The vegan diet is typically a high carbohydrate low fat diet. The study proves high carbohydrate and low fat diets actually increased death rates. This study followed over 140,000 people from around the world for many decades and from all age groups. This study had nothing to do with "refined carbohydrate's" but ALL carbohydrates including plants based, grains and fruits as carbohydrates sources. As a matter of fact since this study was done using people from around the world it is likely most people ate fewer refined carbohydrates and more complex carbohydrate like natural fruit, grains and vegetables for their carbohydrates. How did this study prove veganism is unhealthy? Well it proved that a higher carbohydrate lower fat diets actually increased death rates compared to those who did not follow that type of diet. Again vegans tend to eat a very high carbohydrate low fat diet this is a well known fat and this kind of diet is aggressively promoted by most vegans. A diet that has been shown to increase death rates. The study did not set out to prove veganism was an unhealthy diet but clearly the results prove veganism is as followed by most vegans. There are few, very few higher fat , high protein vegans since plants really cannot offer many foods or diverse food options to fit this kind of diet and in reality this kind of vegan diet is very tough to successfully eat and even afford.

Animal rearing is a huge drain on resources for the amount of food it produces (if it's fertile land, you can grow 3x the food than you can raising animals), animal products don't need to be consumed like they are in the US (which pretty much every dietary organization agrees that Americans eat too much meat, sugar, and salt), there is rampant animal abuse in the meat industry, and particularly cows produce a LOT of methane which contributes to global warning. I got back an angry answer about me being wrong(of course I could take it, because I have studied biomedical sciences and knew I was right). Personally the thing I had the biggest problem with was the fact that he wasn't completely respectful and acted almost megalomane (if this is the right way to say it in English).

I also consume high amounts of healthy fats and proteins and I feel amazing! Obviously this isn't what most normal people have to go through, however I think its really unfair for high carb vegans to act like there way is the only way because I am a perfect example that high carb isn't sustainable, especially for those with conditions such as mine.

Luckily the vegan community in Norway, and Scandinavia in general is not like this. Most vegans here agree that What The Health is not a good source to knowledge. Seems like the vegan communities in the US, UK and Australia as well are based on pseudoscience where it is normal to mostly eat raw fruit and veggies and avoiding "unhealthy" foods, focusing on weight loss, be against vaccination etc., which I think is very unfortunate for veganism. At the end of the day, does it matter what vegan diet someone eats as long as it is vegan? The animals dont care, thats for sure.

Something that my dad has said many times has changed my perception and interactions with people. He says, "When you are arguing or debating something with someone and they start lobbing personal attacks or criticisms, often with emotional bias, they cease to be in a rational debate and you will not change their minds. It immediately discredits whatever follows, no matter how grounded in reality it may be, because they cannot deliver any fact without attacking you. You are best off to disengage and either leave it be or try again later when they're willing to leave personal emotions at the door."
He varies in how he phrases it, but the point is always the same: Where there are personal attacks, they lack valid points and any valid information they may attempt to deliver after that is automatically questioned. It is the fastest way to kill your own side of the debate.
I applaud you for taking this point by point and countering/clarifying in a logical and calm manner.
I understand they're passionate about what they believe. However you can be passionate while also maintaining a sense of maturity, dignity and calm and present your case based on the information you wish to share rather than calling people names, implying nafarious character and motivations and deflecting through insults and misdirection. I wish more people could just have a rational, calm conversation.

Summer Solstice that's not an ok word to use. The t word is a derogatory and oppresive slur used against the trans community for decades.
Most trans people are very triggered by it. You can't even imagine the pain that reading that word in your comment produces to them. It's very likely that they've been called that in situations in which they were severely humiliated, abused, physically attacked, insulted and/or dishumanized.
Some trans people reclaim the word, and if a trans person tells you that they are ok with it, then you can call that specific trans person the t word. But it's completely inmoral to use it in a generic way or with a trans person that haven't given you permission to use that word with them.
      Please stop using it

mythologiefan - Yes, there are perfectly legitimate ways to use the phrase. Normally this is when it becomes clear in a debate / discussion, that there's no immediate prospect of any sort of agreement and one wishes to move on to a more fruitful topic.
More often than not these days however it seems it's used not post-debate, but to prevent debate from ever happening in the first place. Typically this will be a stupid person attempting to insulate their stupid beliefs from any criticism (although often they'll attempt to rationalise this trick by claiming it is the *other* person that's stupid and thus it would be pointless to engage them in debate) , or a stupid person who likes to think that "all opinions are equally valid".

I like your channel. You're the only vegan I've seen here that isn't suffering from the Dunning Kruger Effect. I wonder whether we should ditch the word 'vegan' entirely and simply call ourselves 'vegetarians'... and then simply expand on that depending you your diet:
    Strict Vegetarian (aka 'vegan')
    Ovo-lacto Vegetarian (occasionally eat eggs/dairy)
    ...and so on.
Too many nutters have tainted the word 'vegan' in my opinion and it's hard to get rid of the stench. I'm a medical doctor and have been vegetarian for many years... and now I'm practically vegan. I watched 'What the Health' and my diagnosis: utter rubbish.

So when the intramyocellular lipids were 31% lower in the vegan group in this study below it was just their genes changing? Yes, when comparing people who eat the Standard American Diet, those with higher ILs may have genetic differences. However, to extrapolate that to 'All intramyocellular lipid variation is due to genes and not diet' is showcasing your lack of knowledge on the subject...as you criticize HHV for not understanding the same thing. Intramyocellular lipids are real and a factor in diabetes that is affected by diet. It would be easier to ignore the health aspect of veganism if all the doctors were quacks though...

Mic. the Vegan I swear you, happy healthy vegan, and the couple are tainting this lifestyle. Bending facts to your convenience is insulting to the Vegan community. You guys treat this like a cult.
To everyone else, I've tried both ratio diets including having my daily fat intake at 80% for a year. Lab results we're outstanding no matter what macronutrient ratio I used in my vegan diet. To simplify this argument that everyone has been having since this film came out, FATS ALONE DOES NOT CLOG ARTERIES, CARBS ALONE DOES NOT CLOG ARTERIES. The Combination of saturated fat's and simple carbohydrates is were you start running into problems. As for diabetes, just ask a diabetic what happens when the eat any starch or sugar. No brainer. These facts have been around for years, including in physiology books. I'm just so amazed that people are overlooking this just to fulfill an agenda.
The ketogenic diet is harmless if completely understood. The Navy seals use it. Before there were epilepsy medications, the ketogenic diet was there to save lives. Before the production Rx insulin, the ketogenic diet was there to save lives of diabetics.
Unnatural vegan has really stirred the pot with dry facts. No fear mongering, over-exaggerated claims, or personal attacks. Her delivery humbly invites meat eaters that want nothing but pure facts, without being insulted with biased info. To make this movement bigger, raising awareness with accurate data is paramount.

_"As for diabetes, just ask a diabetic what happens when the eat any starch or sugar. No brainer."_
As a type 1 diabetic, I can vouch for what happens when you eat any bioavailable carbs - blood sugar rises. The speed of the increase depends on the amount of carbs eaten and the rate of processing in the body. Glucose reacts in single digit minutes, starches in double digit minutes to a couple of hours, depending what type it is and what else is eaten together with it and so on. Fat mixed carbs slows absorbtion and evens out any spike in blood sugar.
_"Before the production Rx insulin, the ketogenic diet was there to save lives of diabetics."_
That's absolutely true. Type 1 diabetes is fatal without insulin, though, but a ketogenic diet increased longevity, often by years in those with type 1 diabetes.

Right on right on RIGHT ON!!! As antidotal as it may be, I am walking proof that high carb low-fat is not the way to go. And that is talking about preventative as well as reversal. As of this year I am eight years free of Metformin, A commonly used diabetes oral medication. When I first found out I was diabetic, I was 250 pounds with a blood sugar of 464. And my A-1 C was well over 10.5. I am now 140 pounds to 145 pounds, my blood sugar is normal and my A-1 C is 5.2. We are beef and pork free, and slowly weaning off of chicken, fish is next. I am trying to make sure I do this right as I don't want to reverse all of the work I have done. Even on a vegan diet I need to watch my carbohydrates. Beans and brown rice do wonders for my blood sugar, but I have to watch my fruit intake and be reasonable. I am so excited to have found a vegan like you and will hang on your every word of every video and do research right along with you. By the way, the way I reversed my diabetes was not no carb, but it was a lower carb diet higher in protein and unsaturated fat's. So again, walking proof though antidotal. Thank you again for all you do.

I like your testimonial that worked for you, but you should check-out the animal welfare issues too for being Vegan. There's really no reason to keep consuming any animal/fish products for dietary or diabetes reasons, so if you understand the animal welfare aspects you can stop that now.
If you understand the research dropping your weight is the main reason you no longer are T2D. Maintaining your lower weight and doing some moderate exercise will continue your success with T2D.
There are dozens and dozens of Vegan meat/fish substitutes that are available now that are not expensive. Wishing you well.

    • @VioletBloom
      @VioletBloom Před 7 lety

I am actually transitioning to Vegan now, my point was not that you should eat animal products but more so that you need to eat a lower in carbohydrates and higher in protein diet. Which is very doable with veganism. My agreement with her stems from the fact that high carb low-fat will never prevent nor cure diabetes. Again, mine is anecdotal evidence and research should be done and Dr consultation should be used when embarking upon a weight-loss plan, but eating high carb low-fat is definitely not a way to reverse diabetes, and I highly doubt it can prevent it. If you watch a couple of Ted talks, carbohydrates are the core problem. I don't need a lack of carbs, I just eat healthy carbs and it is balanced with protein and fiber.

Some people, including those with diabetes, do thrive on a HCLF diet. There is plenty of evidence for this in the Vegan community. Personally, I have not been able to do such a diet, HCLF, below 20% fat, but it definitely works for some people with T2D.
Again, the key is losing the weight AND maintaining that weight loss. IF I did HCLF, then I would still eat 30% to 40% fats with some meals every week or so. That's just personal preference to avoid possible nutrition problems. Diet is still an art form and many people would not do well on HCLF for so many reasons, but I think Vegans can do this kind of diet and thrive.
FullyRawKristina (FRC) had T2D as a teenager. She is totally raw and low fat for 12 years now and is thriving on that diet. Plenty of Vegan medical doctors have HCLF programs for reversing T2D and Heart Disease. Testimonials abound by the thousands online that are legit. *It can work for many people, but it's definitely not the only solution by any means.* (I just used FRC as an example, since she's well known as a CZcams Raw Vegan. I do not follow her diet, obviously, and only a fraction of Vegans could do her diet long-term, imo.)
