WASP stuff isnt toooo bad, but for adjusters, I bought the RRS ones that are like double ended threaded rods with locknuts. WAAAAY better for adjusting, but a little pricey. Very interesting tutorial there - never pulled a steering box apart either!
Thanks mate. I’m glad you found it Interesting, I will probably fit the wasp one in. Cheers. :-)
Awesome video very informative I was to scared to pull mine apart but now I’ve seen it done I think I’d give it a go cheers guys merry Christmas
Thanks very much Stephen. Good to hear, they’re not too bad when you get stuck into them. Merry Christmas to you and your family. :-)
Another awesome video Andrew and thank you, I'll definitely be using this as a reference point when life let's me get around to doing mine. Hope you and your family all had a very merry Christmas.
Thanks Marshy. I’m glad you liked the video. I’m glad it might be of some use to you.
Christmas was great for us and I hope you had a good one too. :-)
Neat clean tidy work once again, Andrew, thanks for the update 😊
Thanks very much Kim, much appreciated. I’m looking forward to your next video. I think it’s time you let us have some painting tips.😁 sharing is caring. :-)
@@DonsTrix 😎
Merry Christmas to the Don's Trix family. Thanks for the video. Greetings from sunny England.
Thanks very much Jack, from all of us.
Would I be right to guess that it is not that sunny over there at the moment.
I guess it is perspective. A little bit of your cool would be lovely. Merry Christmas from Australia and have a wonderful new year.:-)
All the very best for 2023 guys. Thanks for keeping the great videos coming!
Thanks very much Nathan, our pleasure. happy holidays to you and your family. :-)
Very interesting video Andrew!! It's great seeing all those items pulled apart & "refreshed".
Thanks very much tiger. I’m glad you found it. Interesting. Happy new year. :-)
@@DonsTrix The Vermillion Fire paint almost looks orange at 0:42.
That’s right Vermilion fire is a very orangey red paint.
nice shirt!
Haha thanks Mitchell, this is trial one shirt. Have a few more designs coming and will be sending you one :)
What a great Xmas present a video from you guys on Xmas day thanks heaps and have a great day wazza
Thanks very much Wazza. We are glad you enjoyed the vid. Merry Christmas to you and your family too. :-)
Thanks. Very interesting.
You’re welcome Stanley. Happy holidays.:-)
Great video fellas, I enjoyed the steering box rebuild.
I hope you didn't lose any balls 🤣
Have a safe and restful holiday season with some tinkering on the XY ute.
Blessings Andrew, Josh, Leon and family take care.
Thanks very much Warren that’s very kind of you. We all very much appreciate the lovely sentiment. Hopefully Josh and I will have a play with XY Owner over the holidays. We want to try and paint inside the cab and the back tray. PS all balls are safely in place😁. Merry Christmas.:-)
Merry Christmas 🎅🎁🎄 great video
Merry Christmas, Tony and Anna. I hope Santa was nice to you this year. And you didn’t end up with a piece of coal in your stocking😏. I’m glad you like the video. See you next year. :-)
Good job gents. I’m fairly sure the longer drag link is from a later model, ie xf which would match your brake rotors.
Yes, I think you are probably right.
I guess only one of them will fit. :-)
Great video as always guys I still have the steering box from my ute as I swapped it to rack and pinion as mine was a restomod :) Have a great xmas and new year see you in 23 cheers from the UK
Thanks, Nige. A drag link system would be nice. I may fit it into one of the other cars one day. Greetings to you and all your family in the UK. Half of my family will end up in the UK in January. Have a good Christmas. :-)
Wow thanks for a great relaxing trip though a steering box rebuild. I just cleaned and painted the VE steering box and pretended I couldnt feel that "rough spot". Now I've got no excuse. Can you get new balls for these things?
Thanks Mate. You can get a servicing kit for the XY steering box but I’m not sure about any others. You could have a look at rare spares, or ask for the dealer and see what they say.:-)
PS just remember, my steering box is not power assistant.
Great work guys. I hope you had a good Christmas. If you get a chance I uploaded a Ford ute video you may be interested in? Keen to know what you think?
Merry Christmas, Mark. Josh and I both looked at your vid on the Ute. It is One nice looking Ute. 👌:-)
@@DonsTrix Thanks guys. Appreciated. Have a great Christmas holiday. Love the show.
Great vid mate. WASP stuff isn't hi end stuff. It'll work but there's better out there. Supercheap stuff.
Thanks very much Glenn. I was thinking of using the original one. In preference to the wasp one. Have a lovely new year. :-)
Lovely job chaps. What are you feeding Leon? He's shooting up!
Thanks Mate. Yes the little fella is growing like a weed. And he is as bright as a button to, and very funny I very much enjoy his company.:-)
Half a glass is what you have left.
You can't argue with that 😆.
Great too see all 3 of you pottering in the shed.
Great stuff.......
Thanks Ben. I guess that is true. Happy holidays. :-)
that pitting on the surfaces is the case hardening breaking down
from wear
the minor one should be ok but the really bad one i wouldnt use
🙂
Thanks JJ. I doubt that I would ever use the more worn one. I actually would love to fit an XF. Power steering one in. :-)
Mate 20mm plate for your bench might overload Santa's sleigh maybe the vice first
You are not wrong! My voice leave something to be desired. 😩
Mate build a decent bench. Very happy to help. Adam
Thanks for the offer Adam. But I will probably just put up with the old one for a bit longer yet :-)
What about the young bloke. I think your younger than me. Let's make it easier.
Great video and thanks for sharing. I'm about to do mine in a 67 Mustang. When reassembling did you put the worm gear in first or the sector shaft? Do you have to align them in a certain position when putting it back together so that the gear comes back to center or does that happen naturally? Last question, approximately how much grease did you pack into the box once it was reassembled. Cheers.
Buy Crikey I can’t really remember most of that. It has been a while since I did the steering boxes. I used quite a lot of grease by memory and I don’t think you can put too much in. I am sorry I just cannot remember the exact order I put it together. Sadly, there was probably a lot of footage we didn’t use so it would be on video somewhere. If you have absolutely no luck in putting it back together, I will get onto Josh and see if I can find you some of the footage and I would email it to you. Josh is on holidays at the moment. And merry Christmas and a happy new year. :-)
@DonsTrix thanks for the info. I have a couple of videos I've also watched. So with your video, i should be able to work it out. Happy new year to you as well.
Merry Xmas Don those tie rod connector couldnt you made your own set bit fiddly but your capable aftermarket stuff often as not are just not the same quality not the dreaded shifter Don you know better than that
Thanks Russell merry Christmas to you too. I think I will probably clean up and zinc. The original ones. :-)
He did use it right way round at least.. first time anyway
Have you seen the xf power steering box mod? Kinda keen to try it in my xy
No, I haven’t seen it. Who does the modification ?
@Don's Trix I found a write up about it in some forum years ago it had pictures and all that from memory the chassis rail needs slight modifications but it's nearly a bolt in conversion
Thanks mate. I have a friend in Ballina who has done it in his xy I’ll have to catch up with him and see how he did it but by memory I think you’re exactly right it’s not too difficult. :-) 👌
@@DonsTrix I'm gonna try track down the article again as I'm at the engine out stage of my restoration
👍
Where did you get the plating kit Andrew?
Hi Shane,
I got it from janekits.com.au. They do a full kit however i used my own power supply.
Cheers
Andrew
Thanks for that mate, the results you were getting were quite good, you convinced me to give it a go myself.👍
Good luck it’s a little bit of a learning curve but it’s worth it. :-)
Is that like cadmium coating .Which was pretty toxic
Hi Adam. You have to be more specific,
I don’t know what you mean?
@@DonsTrix Yeah crap bolts and nuts came with that coating .Not long lasting very cheap protective coating
Did I spy a Don's Trix T-shirt?
Yes. We have been trying out some different designs. We have not settled on one yet we will probably talk about them in another video. The graphic has a story to it. :-)
Cool
