  • Kinneil House has a rich history, stretching from the Roman invasion through to the Industrial Revolution.
    Romans patrolled their northern frontier here, before it became a seat for one of Scotland’s most powerful aristocratic families.
    When James Hamilton, 2nd earl of Arran, set about upgrading Kinneil House in the 1540s, he imitated the royal residences at Stirling Castle and Linlithgow Palace. That's why Kinneil House boasts some of the best Renaissance wall paintings in Scotland
