In the lineup scene, they’re all cracking up partly because it’s ad libbed but also because Benicio Del Toro kept farting.
They kept getting antsy after lunch and brian singer made them do so many takes until they just did it without laughing and farting and in the end they just used one of the funny ones
That’s true!
On re-watch, you notice so many more subtle clues given by Spacey as he tells his story to the detective. It is a masterful performance. He even tells the detective, once a cop thinks he's right you won't change his mind, and his story lets him run with the detective's own incorrect conclusion. Just brilliant!
That's the big thing. Kujan wasn't interested in Keyser Sose at the start; he didn't even know of him. He had been obsessed with Keeton for years, so it was very easy for Verbal to manipulate him into believing Keeton was Sose.
On rewatch, you can actually see the moment Keyser wins. When Cuyon is yelling at him, telling him "I'm smarter than you and I'm going to get what I want whether you like it or not," look at Keyser's face. You can't see it the first time, but once you know who he is, you can see him trying desperately not to laugh in Cuyon's face. From that moment, he had the cop in the palm of his hand, and manipulated the story beautifully.
There was a clever hint to Soze's identity I didn't notice until a re-watch. When they are preparing to attack the boat, one of the main characters wonders out loud what language the men guarding the boat are speaking, and Verbal replies Hungarian. How could Verbal know it was Hungarian - not exactly a familiar language to most people. Unless you are familiar with that language. As Soze would be!
There's an enormous clue as to his identity - if you speak Turkish: "Soze" is Turkish for "verbal". :D
There's an even bigger clue when Verbal is being interrogated he says "I did, I did kill Keaton."
@@Serai3 Whaohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh seriously..
@@Veldtian1 Yep. And "Keyser', of course, means "king". So Keyser Soze translates to "King Verbal". I guess the "king" was changed to "Kint" because too many people know that translation, so it would have given the joke away. :D
@@Serai3 i remember this one in a comment where a turkish guy said it wasnt a dead giveaway(at least for him) since it's sozel the direct translation for verbal
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.
That and that NEEDFUL THINGS store - that was pretty good too.
Got to hand it to him, we had no idea that Spacey was the monster he is.
Wrong. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world she was a man. 😉
@@noone8418 , You've been watching Dogma haven't you?
I use this line still to this day. With variations too. Like, the greatest trick the devil ever played on the world is organized religion 🤷🏼♀️
This is one of the best movies ever. Definite classic.
I saw this in the theater and when the reveal happened, the entire audience went bonkers! It was bedlam!
I wish I would have seen this in the theater! I can only imagine how great it was.
Insane how fast he came up with all those characters and stories just from the information around him.
I'm sure some of the stories were legit but the names changed around.
@@AdamtheGrey02 ahh that makes sense!
this is fiction
Verbal Kint took improv classes in Chicago. ;)
I recommend "L.A. Confidential", you guys gonna love it.
Cool movie. Russell Crowe killed in that.
Great movie, completely agree! Another two that are really good now that I think about Russell Crowe movies are "Master and Commander" and "The Nice Guys"
Definitely, L.A. Confidential, Se7en, The Matrix, and Usual Suspects are perfect reaction movies
Rollo Tomasi
Definitely LA Confidential. Spectacular film noir.
There is this quick scene in Eddie Murphy's Dr. Dolottle where he walks into a dog kennel and he can hear what the dogs are saying, all of them talking over each other. At one point a dog shouts "I'm Keyzer Soze" and I just spit my drink out my nose so fast. I had to rewind to double check. Brilliant.
The identity of the villain was a closely guarded secret and surprised everyone - except anyone who spoke Turkish.
"Soze" is Turkish for "verbal". :D
That is actually insanely clever, holy hell; Turkish people got spoiled right away lol
Actually, I'm Turkish and we weren't spoiled at all because the word "sözel" or "sözlü" (not really "soze") means "verbal" and the way they pronounce it (especially because of the o/ö difference) doesn't really remind us those Turkish words. It sounds like a random foreign name to us. This movie is quite popular among Turkish movie buffs and most love it because of the plot-twist in the end. I've never met anyone who was spoilt because of the name.
@@Berder88 Really? I don't remember that. But they keep pronouncing it closer to Turkish "O" definitely.
It goes even deeper....In jail Verbal tells everyone that he’s called “Verbal” because he "talks too much". The complete name Keyser Söze roughly translates to “King Talk Too Much”. He told the rest of the suspects and the audience he was Keyser when we first met him and we all brushed it off.
@@daynejoseph2366 There are so many clues to his identity all through the film, and yet it's so easy to miss them because Spacey's performance is so good. That's why I always tell anyone who sees it the first time to watch it again. It's a different film once you know the answer.
I saw this movie in the theater in 1995. Back then it played in mostly art house theaters. I was blown away by the twist and ended up seeing the film 20 times in the theater. The Usual Suspects won 2 Oscars for original screenplay and best supporting actor Kevin Spacey.
The thing that made Verbal innocent was the editing of the boat attack. It showed him far from the other guys...impossible to be the one.... BUT, everything you see is his lie! Great
Guys, I LOVE that you realized that the reason why you figured it out so early is that since THIS movie came out, every thriller tries to duplicate the magic of this twist... so now days you kinda expect the twist. But man, when I saw this the very first time... mind was blown.
There’s a little sly smile that Verbal gives when he realises Agent Cujan wants to catch Keaton.
The close up, when the detective walked behind him! I didn’t catch it until my third viewing.
I was so friggin shocked at the end....I had to watch the movie all over again. Amazing twist.
I myself was speechless when I first this on HBO long ago.
I love how they're explaining how they figured out the twist by saying that certain characters acted a suspicious way in certain scenes, but they don't realize that those scenes didn't actually happen. The only things from Verbal's story that we know happened are things that characters outside of that story (the police, Agent Kolian, etc) can verify actually happened. The entire trip to California and what those 5 guys did there - we have no idea if any of that happened, or if they even went to California at all.
given that the boat blew up in San Pedro CA, they actually did know that the guys went to CA. But more generally your point stands.
@@RealArcalian Right, like I said, only things that characters outside Verbal's story can verify - that boat was blown up, a bunch of guys were killed on the docks, Edie Finnerman was murdered, the original lineup took place - those can all be confirmed by the police, FBI, Customs, etc.
@@jhornacek yeah but you also said "or if they even went to California at all." which we know they did. But otherwise you are right.
Your closing comments are spot gents, back when this came out, we weren’t used to movies as they are now, this and many other classics from back then, inspired the sort of storytelling we now take for granted, what an incredible feeling watching it for the first time back then, a true work of art.
Memento is a really good movie if you haven’t already watched it. Directed by Christopher Nolan, 2000.
@linda. So True! That movie made me a Christopher Nolan fan instantly.
Lol yup memento is gold
That movie is as confusing as Mulholland Drive.

my ex showed me that.. :(… lmao sike boi we our here fuckin hoes
This is a lot like my favorite movie - "The Game" (Michael Douglas, Sean Penn). The ending has a lot of people up in arms, but it's a movie that always has you second guessing yourself. I'd highly recommend a watch.
Such an intense movie. Fantastic! It really gave me things to think about.
Absolutely!!! The Game is such a great movie. I always wondered what the total bill was at the end. It had to be 7 figures,I would imagine.
Movie not move
The cigarette to the eye was real. Peter Greene was supposed to toss it to hit Baldwin's chest but the flick went wild. The reaction from Baldwin was real, too, as was the other guys holding him back. The whole thing was so good, the director kept it in. The lineup was the same - they spent the whole day filming it and never got a good take because the actors got the giggles from Benicio's farting and never could recover. In the end, the director just chose the least crappy shots and used them. The interesting thing is that all the giggling actually served the scene really well, as it makes it clear both that they all know each other and they do not take the situation seriously at all.
saw this one in the theater - when it ended everyone in the audience stood up and gave it a standing ovation. only time I've ever seen that happen in a movie theater
This came out when I was in college and we were OBSESSED. We went to the theater and watched it multiple times.
Oh gawd, yes, please react to LA Confidential. It’s legit one of my all-time favorite movies, of any genre. Nominated for best picture, but it came out the same year as Titanic, so “everything else” kinda unfortunately got forgotten or overshadowed. Just watch it! 🤩
absolutely this! amazing movie
Nominated for 2 Oscars in 1995. WON THEM BOTH!!!!! Amazing movie.
It's been in my top 3 favorite movies ever sense I saw it back in early 2000s.
P.S. - Look at Verbal's face when he's telling the kyzer soze origin story. He's so passionate because he's talking about himself 😅
This movie has one hell of a plot twist you'll not see coming!
Who are you telling this to?
New nicknames for these two Tucker and Dale, as in "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" - if you know you know haha.
Damn, we know and that's a good one lol
Yes lol
@@OctoKrool Watch panther (1995)

“Mystic River” is an Oscar masterpiece ✊
possibly
Thanks that was a lot of fun and yes all the actors played their parts perfectly! And yes being in the theater for the Luke Father moment Was jaw dropping looking at my friend and brothers with gasps being heard from everyone in attendance it was awesome!
One of my favorite movies, have seen it many times...Great reaction guys!!!
This is one of my favorite 'repeat' films. I can put it on at any time and have it play in the background while I do other stuff. Heh.
If you have a chance, watch it again, with the commentary on. Fantastic commentary.
When I first watched the movie I never figured out who the actual villian was until the very end. Such a good movie
“Gimme the keys ya....” 🤣🤣💯👏
"He'll flip ya... flip ya fo' real"
Yeah, I saw this in a theater when it was released and we are all fooled and stunned. And yes, "Luke, I'm your father." was a Major Bomb for us in the audience. Glad you can imagine how it was for us back then.
The "Oswald was a fag" thing, he meant that Oswald had it easy, just had to make one shoot, whereas he had such a more difficult and manly job to do as a snipper
Yeah Oswald only had one target, and an unarmed one, they got 27 armed targets to deal with
Yeah but he had a Steyr Aug. Oswald had a bolt action rifle.
@@noone8418 yeah, but Oswald had two other shooters helping him
Go back and watch it again - EVERYTHING will look different! :D
This definitely is one of those movies you have to watch at least twice.
Everyone says they know..but it’s always the reveal from the board that surprises them.
One of my all-time favs. It won every original script award that year.
"and like that"...straight to black...."he's gone"
a fantastic ending...I watched this when it first released years ago and the reveal was absolutely huge...people that seen it was talking about it everywhere.
I think this was Bryan Singer's first film (before X-Men) and he was in his early 20s. Also, the budget was so low, they basically shoestringed the movie but struck lightning with the cinematographer and the composer of the score. It seems in the making, Singer was so frustrated that he thought it was gonna fail big time, and then it just came together.
This is such a good movie and your reaction and deduction skills were great!
I don't know if you guys do recommendations but I highly suggest "Primal Fear" (1996). It's another good suspenseful movie with twists and I wish more people saw it cuz it's a hidden gem. I think you would enjoy this movie, too.
I saw that in the theatre and instantly became a fan of ed norton.
@Margaret McFarland.... AGREED, Primal Fear is a must see. Edward Norton played one hellava character! Great movie!
Primal Fear is a classic! Fantastic.
Thanks for the great reaction! I've seen a view reactions for this movie, but when it's revealed who Soze is and see people's reactions, (still) gives me goosebumps, hahahaha
Earlier in the movie Verbal couldnt use a lighter and needed help, but when picking up his property from the police he had a gold watch and gold lighter.
This was one of the best-written screenplays in modern cinema. So well done, and the acting was top notch.
One tell that was pointed out to me years after I watched it... when Kobayashi first meets them and they ask who his employer is... he looks right over at Verbal for half a second before saying Kaizer Soze.
Yes Gus!! That was a very clever analysis!! You're dead right! I saw this when it first came out, and film makers were definitely inspired by that style of misleading twists. Epic work!! 👍😁😁
The rewatch of this movie is very rewarding.
I recommend Identity with John Cusack.
After 26yrs, I still pick up on subtle hints & clues...
Gabriel Byrne (Keaton), BTW, starred in "Miller's Crossing", which I recommend a long time ago, and the fact of which you all apparently forgot.
Wow, that's funny, I just watched this movie for the first time last year. It definitely lived up to the hype! Love the content man, keep up the good work💪💯
This is such a great movie!!! I seen it when it first came out and I had to watch it again so I went with a couple friends the next day to watch it again. One of my favorite movies behind Tombstone
Great movie Octokrool.... Let's get some Reservoir Dogs up in this beeatch!
LOL, I was in the theater in 1995 to watch this, I was 18. I did not understand what the hell happened but I liked it. The 90s were such a great era for movies. Tarentino started the non linear format (didnt start but started the fad, The Killing might have started it) and our brains just werent thinking that way. Now its everywhere but back then it was very rare. Crazy thing is these movies are more popular now than when they came out. I saw Usual Suspects at a $1.50 movie theater after it had been out for 2 months and I only heard of it by mistake.
You might also like DAY OF THE JACKAL (1973), THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR (1975) or BULLITT (1968). : )
I totally forgot about that Oswald line 😄 ETA: Speaking of Oswald, you guys might enjoy the movie JFK, starring Kevin Costner and a million other people and directed by Oliver Stone. Very, very good film.
Second this, and not a film many have reacted to on here
At 32:01, I first saw this film like 10 years ago. I've seen it countless times & seen people react to it countless times. AND YET, when you see Kevin Spacey correct his limp while walking away... CHILLS. EVERY TIME.
The narrator is the villain , so you're going to believe everything you hear until proven otherwise! Great concept for a thriller.
"Seven" ' "Fight Club"
Them Fincher hitters.
I even got chills watching the reaction lol
This movie only cost $6 million. Gabriel Byrne was the biggest name actor they had at the time. This movie made stars of Spacey and Benicio. I met Kevin Pollak six years ago, had a few drinks, and talked about this movie and some of his others. He signed my copy of the Usual Suspects script, with a pen that Tom Cruise gave him on the set of A Few Good Men. Great dude, funny as hell.
Kevin spacey was first on the TV show WISEGUY, where he played a heroin kingpin. Great role...
First time watching you two, I'm five minutes in and already subscribed. 🙂, I see a binge day today!
Lol, thank you for the sub Mickie! :)
i knew it was Verbal when the cop goes back into the cop's office and asks Verbal "Who is Keyser Soze?" and Verbal curses. A gut reaction to a question he wasn't expecting.
So many underrated gems like this.
This is one of my top 20 favourite movies .I got to physically edit this movie with an exboyfriend when he was part of the film & cinema society at University ,we had to run the reels of flim on to the projector and make cuts and patches on any damaged or burnt parts of the film roll it was fun helping set up the cinema on a Sunday and I got to see cool movies like this .
Great conversation about the film too. And your dead on, this is one of the films that made the story twist a trend in film. Because of that others have tried to copy,
Amazing movie. I remember seeing in theaters. The ending was unheard of. Absolutely amazing. It’s crazy that the movie as we see it was fake. We don’t know the whole true story. Watch it again and you can see Verbal smirking when Agent Coulion walk behind him.
I picked up on it really early when it first came out too but the way they showed how all the details of his story came together just makes the movie & you still don't know how much, if anything, was based on truth.
It is easier to spot the twist to this ending because it has been done several times before however what made this movie so great was that back in 95 no movie had really ever done such a huge twist like this before so it shocked nearly everyone when they saw this and this movie is what spawned the idea of having dramatic twist ending and especially the movies that have the protagonist or primary ally turning out to be the main antagonist all along.
I love this movie. The scene where Verbal is sat in the office, where on first watch he just looks bored but when you rewatch and you realise that he's putting together the whole story.
But with cool twists, you should check out Knives Out if you've not already seen it.
I literally have been watching this movie at least 3 times a year since it came out!
My favorite movie... And seeing reactors watch it for the first time and their reaction of the ending is classic..One of the best who done it movies ever!!!!
Okay I was trying to think of something similar to "Usual Suspects". Can't think of anything close to it. But someone made a comment above or whatever about 'Turkish'. THAT reminded me of a movie called "Midnight Express". Nothing similar at all to "Usual Suspects" but an absolutely AMAZING film within itself. WELL worth the watch. I believe it came out in 1968. Check it out.
"Usual Suspects" was great fun though. One of those movies you have to watch twice to actually get some things.
Midnight Express is a great movie too. The first time I watched it was in London decades ago, and I didn’t know much about it. It was part of a double program with Taxi Driver being showed as the other movie. That was a great day to be a tourist in London :)
Oliver Stone won the Oscar for Best Screenplay for Midnight Express.
@@allenschneider8579 Great screenplay. That was before, I had any idea about who Oliver Stone was.
"Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead" came out around the same time as The Usual Suspects & is of the same calibre of thriller 🤩👍
@@skinheadjon901 Great movie but I wouldn't compare it to "Usual Suspects" IMO. That's more like "Lucky Slevin" or "Switch" or those British caper flicks that were more like "Reservoir Dogs" "Pulp Fiction" Guy Ritchie Quentin Tarantino type action flicks. Similar yeah but not on the same intricate intense level as "Usual Suspects". That film stands alone IMO. May have been earlier influences when the dude was writing the script. Forget director's name. Brian Singer. Just remembered his name.

One of these gotta be next 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great movie!!! It's sad Kevin Spacey isn't a good person in real life because his acting and movies are fantastic
The first thing in the movie that made it apparent to me that Verbal was lying was his story about making coffee from fresh-picked beans just off the tree in Gautemala. If you've ever looked up how coffee beans are processed before they're usable, this comes off as extremely implausible.
Love the video stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
1st time I saw this was, i rented it on VHS from Blockbuster. Fact that your friend never heard of it, isn't surprising, Usual Suspects wasnt a huge Blockbuster film. It really got its fame from word of mouth, or ppl just happen to watch it. Remember there wasn't social media then. One of the greatest plot twists endings of all time. I know its controversial, but Kevin Spacey was one of my favorite actors, this film made me a fan of his. Brilliant 🔥🔥🔥🔥
one of the greatest reveals of all time the first 10 times I watched this movie I was still seeing things that I didn't see the previous time one of the greatest films ever made
This is a great movie, another great movie that came out that year was Heat
One of the best twist ever.
This movie was magical, something so special about the way thy told this.
My Family took me to see it when I was like 10 ...Wasn’t sure if I was gonna like and and I Fricken FELL IN LOVE WITH IT
This one is in my top 5!
The real mindbender is not just who it was, but when you realize that much of what you just watched NEVER HAPPENED.
Yes.... We went NUTS during this movie. Made Kevin spacey a star. We couldnt figure it out. The 90s were beginning of smart movies
"The Crying Game"
Best Twist Ever ? lol
the greatest trick the devil ever pulled is; how you guys didn't know the twist coming after all these years; it's been spoilt in so many programs and films since then but great reaction watching it knowing what what i know; your reactions are the exact same as me and my brother 1st watching in the cinema all those years agao
"Prisoners" jake gyllenhall, hugh jackman, viola davis
I was lucky enough to see this upon release in the theater. I was only 12 but this movie really changed the way I viewed films.
When he was leaving he received "1 gold watch" from evidence room. They made sure to show that watch at the beginning of the movie when he shoot Keaton. 👀
I love how you both had to hydrate immediately after hearing about the piss coming out like snot! 🥤
This movie is a classic! Lmao! Good choice!!
Chazz Palminteri who was the customs agent wrote a story based loosely on his own experience called A Bronx Tale. It was made into a movie with Robert DeNero. You should check that out.
This movie gives you so many clues right out in the open, but the story is so engrossing you still get to the big reveal and find yourself screaming WTF!!!
This is epic! You've known that for a year but ... its true, it's epic!
One of my favorite movie of all time...
