They also never went back to:
    - Sonju literally saying that he can't wait to eat wild humans (which is so important considering he was taking care of all of those kids for a couple days)
    - The secret that the demon whispered to Isabella's ear when she was in prison (the demon was going to kill her, but said he would spare her if she brought all of the kids back and then whispered another thing she would be rewarded with)
    - THEY NEVER TALKED ABT THOSE SOLDIERS THAT RAIDED THE SHELTER? YOU'RE TELLING ME SOLDIERS WITH GUNS WERE DEFEATED BY LITTLE KIDS WITH BOWS AND ARROWS?????
    - They never talked more about Ray being Isabella's son, one of the biggest plot twists in the show.
    - They also made Phil seem so important, I was expecting a whole episode (at least) dedicated to him making a plan with the other kids to escape, since he seemed like Emma v2.
    - They never talked about the guy with a paper bag over his head, or the room that had scribbles on the walls (Yuugo's room in the manga).
    - There was also no emotion when Peter killed himself, like when Isabella apologized to the children, his body and blood just disappeared lol.
    - Also they forgave Isabella so easily???
I just feel bad for the animators who are so underpaid and making barely enough money to live, spending hours away from their family to make something to make they believed would be good. I need to know how the producers sleep at night knowing they did this.

It makes no sense. Another thing somewhat related; in the manga, Isabella pulls out some note from Ray in like one of the short stories at the end but we never find out what the note says. Like hello?? What was on the note?? She says the note could destroy her, what did your 12 year old son write that could destroy you???

Her betrail also came out of nowhere, in the begining os the season she looked ready to sell all the kids and then sudely she helped them, like...

    • @Sarazoul
      @Sarazoul Před 3 lety +407

I kinda saw her betrayal a mile away. In S1 when you get her backstory, you know she really loved all of them. And she really never wanted to hurt them. She just wanted them to have the best life possible before they are shipped.
Knowing this, I had a feeling she would betray the demons.
The problem was execution. There was no build up to anything. When Isabella is put in charge. She doesn't do anything. She could have been just a grunt with a gun. Would not have made a difference.
It's just implied that she convinced the momas off screen. And that's it.
      So very underwhelming twist.
And yeah. The fact that she seems to love Emma more then her own Son (like every character in the show who just worships her for no good reason). That was down right insulting

      @themanidentifiedasdinosaur8138 Před 3 lety +49

What? Ray was isabella's son? Was that in the anime?
My main concern is actually Phil's uninvolvement in the anime. There was a theory in film theory by matpat that I support that Phil was kind of the mastermind. As he pointed, (which is very cool btw), the manga and season 1 used the panels as point of view. Meaning like in season 1 when they are playing tag, You can see the camera from the bushes. Later on, Phil decided to emerge from the bushes which kind of hinted that that POV was actually Phil's Eyes.
On manga, there were POV at Ray and Emma talking and then a few panels after, Phil emerged from that direction which indicated that it was his. This lead to the theory that Phil was really active and know more than what is shown in manga and anime. The book cover also tells a lot. In the books, all children was looking at one side and the one who knows the plan for escape, Ray, Emma, the other 3 older ones look at the other direction. Oh, did I mention that among all the younger kids, Phil is the only on looking at Emma's direction?
There's a lot of subtle interpretations in the Manga which was also in the season 1 of the anime then they decided to scrap it hoping to do something better than what the original author wants.
Imagine a company having a deal with Apple and made a new cellphone but instead of apple, they decided to put ORANGE as a logo and claim it theirs. That's what happened in this one. It's legally stealing. It's like those parody videos where you take a clip of something and make a new complete series out of it but only using the title as a bait since it's popular.

Emma not interacting with Asyhe was a huge opportunity both the Manga and Anime wasted. That would have added genuine weight as to why Emma doesn't want to kill the Demons. Because Ayshe existence show the potential compassion towards humans.

    • @blackcat80yearsago96
      @blackcat80yearsago96 Před rokem +14

Literally I had this idea forever. Emma should've taken that decision after she meet Asyhe, and heck they should've added some plot while they were searching for the 7 walls about demon society. Maybe even use the ancestors more as to why humans and demons even coexist in the first place. It just hurts seeing so much potential wasted.
Emma wanting to save demons just came out of the blue, especially after you read the first chapters of Goldy Pond arc when she looked so determined on killing them after she witnessed the hunts.
The manga also shot itself in the foot by making Norman's plan too perfect. there were no consequences for the genocide besides the fact that the idea of it is bad which wasn't convincing for me at least, considering everything that happened prior. Not to mention things came conveniently to Norman as well by escaping Lambda so effortlessly.
Idk, I think they should've wrote the manga in parts. end it after the Goldy Pond, then start a new with ideas already planned out and preferably have a whole part dedicated to the ancestors and their history. Wishful thinking but I can't help it.

@@apbeat9455 Shueisha is in the TPN Committee along with Aniplex. They produced ie invested in this project and hold the purse strings, controlling the written script and allocated money which they hired Cloverworks with. Cloverworks is just an animation studio and don't have the ability to make executive decisions. Nor is their involvement due to desire for an anime they think will make a lot of DVD sales because they aren't reliant on DVD sales since they aren't producers. Aniplex is and yes they didn't want to invest much and didn't want the series to keep going. They did help write the script and we're ok with Shueisha butchering it but only later after a certain point. Why? They made sure the first few episodes adapted the manga source more in hopes it would boost S1 DVD sales from hyped excited fans watching season 2. Cloverworks though are just an animation studio that takes whatever projects they get hired to do. They aren't investors, they're paid staff. SJ axed TPN when that investment started to stagnate and dip in sales in later volumes (SJ will axe a series with very little time to wrap up hence why the speed run in the last few chapters; they only gave the manganka a few chapters to wrap it all up and the lackluster response to the later half of the manga is why sales dipped but it was only in the last few chapters where the manga content suddenly turns into a huge rush ahead to the end cause that is when they got the final order to finish it up, and only in so-and-so amount of space/weeks) This is the reason why they axed it quick and invested the smallest amount of funds they could to adapt this season 2 project. Why? Because them investing a small amount leading to a shitty adaptation makes manga sales in their previous manga investment that stagnated, boost which garners higher net profit returns, while at the same time a new invested manga serialization that took it's place in SJ mag, would've had enough time to start gathering a fan base which will get a fresh batch of profit returns. And part of the end push for profit in TPN is supposed to help carry into the time that's needed for the new investment that took it's place, to start garner a profit for itself. That way no amount or the less amount of time there is, where there's not a continuous growth of profit accumulation.

You know why I feel so much pain? Not because Promised Neverland is bad. It's not. Yes it has issues and very serious ones, but it's still a pretty nice story, like 6 or 7 out of 10. I feel pain because it could have been 10 EASILY. When I first started reading it, I was blown away by its setting and mysteries, I've felt that way since I was 8 reading Harry Potter. It was such a unique and interesting story- kids vs demons, masterpiece in the making people will talk about for years! And yet... meh. That's okay. Emma doesn't even need to sacrifice anything, everything just happens and deus ex machinas here and there to help her. I critiqued this series in the past not because I hate it, but because I wanted it to be so much better. This is the same issue I've had with Gantz and few other stories- incredible idea, amazing start, okay development and god-awful ending.

@Madison Francis Glad to hear you've gotten into Shingeki no Kyojin!! It really is such a magnificent series. And I agree-I definitely saw the parallels in the 2 shows. And it felt like Promised Neverland wanted a more hopeful take, perhaps, but really cut corners to get there. And I had really loved the first season and was very excited about the second one, as well. I've already watched the longer video about the manga, and now I'm glad I waited on the anime. Why? Because I would've been confused and then gutted with the changes (how the anime removed so much!), plus the manga itself probably wouldn't have been the best use of time. It's really unfortunate.

The characters isn't just normal human, there's vampire and physic guy. But oh boy the ending is just terrible. It also has TONS of plot holes. In an interview right after S1 ended, the director already confirmed that they were going anime original, even though there was no need to. The manga is already complete. They gave the excuse that the ending was disliked, but all they needed to do was slow the pacing down and fill in the manga's holes. Instead they rushed the anime at quadruple the speed of the manga. I'm convinced that CloverWorks only brought in Shirai at the last minute for damage control and just for him to do nothing but tell what plot points they need forcibly and lazily shoehorn in at the last minute. I doubt Shirai would ever have allowed this to happen if CloverWorks gave him real authority when he did everything the anime did infinitely better. I feel so bad for Shirai. Not only did CloverWorks ruin his story, but they ruined it while spoiling it in the process. I wouldn't be surprised if Shirai demanded a remake. This is just an unacceptable adaptation.

If anything, Neverland S2 is more comparable to Tokyo Ghoul Root A, where it intertwines anime original content with a rushed version of the ideas and stories present in the manga to make a vaguely original yet vaguely adapted ending where all sorts of deviations have occurred at odd intervals while the production values tank below the first season. I've never heard the FMA comparison before for S2 until now, and yeah, it's bonkers when everyone already has Root A right there to use.
The only major difference is that Root A covered the end of TG's first manga so that it can eventually get 2 more seasons to rush through the TG:re manga. Neverland doesn't have a continuation, and it probably shouldn't get one.

Corporate meddling? No, is pretty simple in Japan anime adaptation of the manga is by the most part made to promote the anime, they are planned in advance and for the most part they have two seasons at first. The problem with The Promise Neverland anime is that because the manga ended a while ago there was no incentive to keep the anime going as it was not promoting anything, but the project was already started, so there was no canceling now. They probably also got the budget cut + Covid, thus they decided to not do a straight adaptation ,as the arcs coming up would have been pretty expensive to adapt . Instead to adapt the rest of the manga on a shoe string budget and skip the more expensive arcs.

  • @Malthizar

I'm pretty sure the reason this happened is due to the fact that the manga bombed so spectacularly. Season 1 was so good in both the anime and the manga. It's likely that the execs were expecting PN to do like 5 seasons and be a huge staple. After PN did its nosedive and just... ended, the execs most likely were just trying to get out of the series as fast as possible as cheaply as possible.
I have no proof of this, but this makes the most sense from a business standpoint. While there may have been some neat things about the manga, its ending was so terrible, and had started out so great, it made zero financial sense to try and waste money on a series that would literally just suck in color.
I imagine they had already started working on it to some degree while the last chapters were coming out, realized it was garbage, stripped of everyone outside a skeleton crew, and just told to rush it out the door and never talk about it again.

Ok so I just finished your teen titans videos. I subscribed. I'm going to watch the rest of the channel starting with Avatar the last air bender.
I would absolutely start supporting your patreon the day you did TMNT 2003. I just watched it for the first time in my life on Paramount+. You would have so much to talk about character development, lessons, and themes. Right up your alley.
Cheers you put alot of work into these.

Did Norman die after the anime? Because he was dying from a disease he had and part of the reason why they invaded headquarters was to find the cure, but the cure was never brought up again afterwards.
My head cannon is that right after the last scene Norman just just dies right there

    *Mild Spoilers*
The way I see it they should've kept this season up until the next time skip. That way the events at Goldy Pond and the characters in there would be included. Thid would also mean the studios plate wouldn't be full of so much stuff and so by that point a 3rd season could be made and that's where the manga started to go downhill so the studio now that they have less stuff to deal with could make a separate story. That way season 3 would end in the way the Anime would want it and not take the direction that the manga did.

tbh i was already worried that the 2nd season might be a bad adaptation before it even began because cloverworks were also releasing horimiya and wonder egg priority at the same time so I think that it might be difficult for them since they're handling three shows but I never expected that the 2nd season would be even worse than what I imagined

Apparently they decided to go with this whole semi-anime original ish approach because they weren't happy with how the manga ended which is fair as it seems that the author rushed it. But instead of "improving" it, i think they just tried to make it "cleaner". I believe the main reason they remove the whole goldy pond arc was to not make the story too convoluted even tho their sacrificing one of the best arcs in the entire series, doing this means that they don't have to deal with introducing all those kids from the goldy pond arc which gives them a much lower amount of people to work with and to develop. Following the core structure of the story whilst not deviating too much and introducing too much plot points in the story.
On paper it seems fine and understandable to do. But i think they misjudged what exactly caused the downfall of the manga and they tried to introduce something that they thought would seem natural to implement in the plot and everyone would be fine with it, but they never bothered to fix the already existing issues that they were trying to fix in the first place that would led them to the desired ending that they want. And this might be a hunch, but i think they might have realized this at the end bit of this adaptation which what caused the whole ppt presentation of an ending...
So in the end, i think the author was too overwhelmed with the convoluted storyline she created in the manga, introducing way too much characters that she can't possible develop and explore them all, and i think she realized that at some point, with time against her, she had to just end it there and i guess she wanted to fix it all in the anime. So she made it extremely clean here removing all the stuffs that made the story too complicated but she completely dodged all the other issues in the story. So instead of actually trying to fix the story, she and the studio just erased everything that they thought were causing issues. Unfortunately, it didn't went so convenient for them as it did for emma....
Just a thought to share ^•^

Fans: so are you guys going to fix each of the plot points and actually take your time in developing each of the concepts and characters in a more thorough and proper manner?
Author and studio: nah, were just going to completely remove what caused those issues in the first place, then were just gonna have it all conveniently play out so that we can hopefully create a more cleaner and natural storyline..
Fans: wait, so you guys would just rather completely erase the issues rather than fixing it? Isn't that kind of lazy? Also isn't the story being too convenient one of the biggest issues of the manga anyway?
Author and studio: wait, it was?
      Fans: what?
      Author and studio: wHaT???
*and thus, the slideshow ending was born cause they fucked themselves*

In a 2019 interview, one of the producers said
"So right now we are working on the 2nd season of The Promised Neverland, and the original manga is still ongoing. For the first season we stayed true to the story of the manga, we left the story more or less unchanged, but in the 2nd season I think we're going to have more flexibility in how we portray the story that's in the manga. Of course we can't say for sure how that is going to work because we're still working on it, none of it is quite fixed for the moment so there is a chance we will deviate from the manga but we can't say for sure yet."
They were working on it already while the manga is still ongoing, the author is working on the manga while they work on the anime, so I don't think the author is involved when they were making the changes. And the manga hasn't even reached the ending yet they were already deciding to deviate from it.
