I love that after Gm 1 Mike Sullivan didn't throw Jarry under the bus, nor blame the loss on him. Sullivan, as he usually does, stayed focused on the task at hand, and called on the Pens to play better as a group.
Wouldn't be surprised but I think he stays with Varlamov for the duration, it's Varlamov's job to lose but he wont be hesitant on making change back to Sorokin if Varly falls apart- as a Penguins fan I like having Varly in there, history says we have success against him but every year and series is different. The game plan has remain the same, play AHEAD, limit gambles forcing odd man breaks the other way, Jarry cant allow any softies, Tanev continue to lead the physicality and keep it ramped up- like Pierre Maguire said, we have to Out-Islander the Islanders! Is the first penguins goal can be thought as mistake or maybe some kind of weak play of the goalie. Just for this current moment, not whole skills of Semen. I understand that it (as I understand) was giveaway by the defence. But still not too close shot, goalie saw that, no fake moves, looks like goalie was ready for that but still went in. Like same shot at 3:00. Was kept out. Or I missing something and it is a lot harder to handle with those attacks and there are a lot of details that I as casual watcher don't understand?
most likely they don't have the time to react once the puck is in motion from that close in, unless it's miniscule movement in a direction. he made a very educated guess where it would go, could have read it wrong, rust could have done something small to throw him off. it happens.
That’s a routine save for any goalie, but sometimes weird goals happen. The shot may have surprised him too, as Rust wasn’t in what you’d call prime scoring position. You usually won’t see a goalie give up 2 soft goals like that in the same game, though.
