    The trouble is that Blackpool is no longer the resort it once was and this has a knock on effect for the PB.
    I wouldn't be surprised that if at some point within the next 5 years the PB goes under.

      Blackpool visitor numbers are rising, and believe last years numbers were the highest for a long time. Trouble is many are day-trippers so there is no incentive for them to pop onto the park for a part of their visit due to the ridiculous pricing structure currently in place.

    River caves needs saving. Can’t explain how devastated I’ll be if I never got on it again. So many memories
    Pleasure beach just needs some way of getting more funding or investment as well as I feel that would help. Obviously. Seems like there’s not enough money, and it’s felt like that for a long time now

    Such a shame to see old classic rides dissappear...one of BPs selling points is the history and if they lose so many of these rides I'd be concerned about the future of the park, especially when universal is coming! Well done for the honest videos and being the voice for many!

    I don't think you're being negative at all, you're pretty spot on.
    Fingers crossed they're able to save River Caves! It'd be a big shame to see this one go, I figured this was inevitable due to its age, but it's still sad to see. It's always been a particularly nostalgic one for me.
    As a little kid I was extremely anxious when it came to theme park rides, I didn't like anything fast, anything high, anything with tight spaces, anything scary, basically I just didn't trust anything that wasn't specifically designed for toddlers. I remember being just terrified to ride this one - of course my parents knew I'd end up enjoying it, but at the time I assumed I was being led to my death! I think I saw the little tunnel and assumed the entire ride was going to be dark, narrow and claustrophobic the whole way through. I panicked the whole time we stood in the queue. But once we got in, I couldn't believe how atmospheric and calm it was. My parents were surprised when I instantly wanted to go again, and to this day I remember it being the first ride I didn't chicken out of. I'm a big theme park enthusiast now, and I'll always see River Caves as the place where that all started. It helps that the ride is such a classic with a rich history, and that it's been a staple of the park for so long. I had no idea back then that my mother had also been on it when she was my age, that's so cool to think about.
    I revisited the park with my brother late last year, of course we had to check this one out. He didn't remember it from my descriptions, but once we got inside he was like "oh my god, yeah, THIS one!" and we had a great time reminiscing. Seeing the ride virtually unchanged since childhood (except for the blue grotto no longer having the tracks, but I understand Wallace needs his space) was a genuinely nostalgic and lovely experience. Crazy to think we might have experienced this ride during its very last season. I'm glad I got to see it once more, but I'll be sad to see it go. I'll miss those dinosaurs.
    Sorry my comment turned into a eulogy! This ride's always been a favorite of mine, and I'm sure many others have similar memories with it. Here's hoping the park is able to work something out, but I won't get my hopes up.

    This is terribly disappointing. Like you Scott, I have fond memories of the Pleasure Beach. In my case over 60 years now! It is depressing to see so many rides closed and removed and nothing put back in place. Interesting you mention the dome opposite Grand Prix as I was wondering what was in it now. I never went on the ride but it was great whilst it was there and visible through the plastic glazing. That is a huge space that will be dead now with GP closed. Usually I need my Pleasure Beach fix if not visited recently but now I'm not so sure. I think I'd be so disappointed now I'm not sure I'll go back.
    There is a lot to be done to save the place as I consider it now under threat if they don't get many more through the gates this year.

    Hi , Iam in totally in agreement with you. Because I first went to Blackpool 26 years ago, and the pleasure Beach was a magic place . And also it was great to just walk in , and not to pay if you weren't going to ride all the rides . Even pleasure Beach Radio station, had it's great times . Iam coming to Blackpool in August, so if I just wanted to buy an Icon jacket , I will need to pay an entrance fee , and then go to the Icon shop to buy it , which it will make that jacket very expensive. I hope they will bring back the walk in , and not to pay to ride the rides . All the Best. Simon

    They can't let the river caves go! Its so historic, but its never been the same since they enclosed the section through the magnolia cafe when they removed the gold mine and replaced it with Wallace and Gromit. Im hoping they can sort the ride out and bring it back. They can not let this historic ride die. It's the only river caves left in the UK (there used to be several others, most notably at Southport), and it is integral to Blackpools historic past!

    I visited with my family who knew absolutely nothing about the Pleasure Beach last weekend and had my two 12 year old nephews running from ride to ride from the entrance only to find them closed. They were really disappointed with the amount of the rides that were closed and I was stunned at how quiet it was; I used to be a season pass holder and the only time I’d found it as quiet as this in the past was a Sunday in March when there had been heavy snow the day before and the park were handing out free hot drink vouchers! Their parents took them to the Illuminations with the intention of taking them into the park last year only to find it closed as well and I’m sure there are lots of other missed opportunities like this. I really hope that BPB remember that they couldn’t have the ice shows and hotels if it wasn’t for the rides and they need to start running it like the amusement park it is again instead of wishing it was broadway. You’re not being negative, BPB isn’t a patch on other amusement parks like Liseberg anymore and they need to hear it for them to be able to improve. Great video 👍

    Grand Prix, dome/arcade, river caves, black hole, the Hub and former Trauma Towers. A lot of defunct/SBNO/empty space all connected and within the same area. A new coaster could do the high-level stuff on the old Grand Prix site, then dive over the overpass through the dome area and down into the river caves for some ground-level, under-the-gold-mine action, perhaps extending up and over the Hub/Trauma Towers area.

    I have done a lot of work on what we lovingly call legacy equipment and it's an absolute nightmare, it's not the cost, it's finding the parts and getting them to work. I worked with control systems, one for the river caves would probably cost £1000, but it's going to take six months to program and test it. For example Icon will have a complete set of drawings, river caves will have been modified over the years and it will take a long time to work it all out.

    When you take into act the current economic climate, waning attendance, a seeming lack of direction at a management/customer communication level, AND the increasing amount of rides either SBNO or coming to the end of their lives…the future for BPB/BPR looks bleak.
    Do you think Merlin will be wanting to acquire this park, knowing it needs massive investment? I read somewhere earlier this year that Merlin mindset at present is to limit new developments and concentrate on maintaining what they have…which taken on its own is concerning, as we know they have cut corners and took shortcuts for years, and they are in a similar position of BPB with a lot of big hitters now old and needing work, or replacing in the next 10 years!

    Old equipment simply costs a fortune to maintain. River Caves wasnt planned maintenance. I beleive the ride motors are the issue - and as you explained in the blog, the cost to possibly repair and replace isnt sustainable. This season now is simply going to be a case of getting as much money into the park, with as little outgoings as possible - to invest in the next seasons.Grand Prix might use petrol cars on the final opening rather than the electrical track. Ice Blast, id say its safe to say thats gone. Rev / Avalanche max 2-3 seasons.

    Ensuring the future of the river caves should be one of Pleasure Beach's top priorities - it is a totally unique attraction.
    If a part has broken suddenly and they can't replace it due to the manufacturer not existing anymore, then I have some sympathies. But Pleasure Beach should have been planning for a situation like this, given the ride's age.
    If Pleasure Beach can't compete with Towers and Thorpe, regarding new coasters every 2-3 years, then they have to ensure these unique dark attractions don't go.

    I visited Blackpool PB last year and I actually enjoyed it more than my trips to Alton Towers that year. That being said there is no escaping the fact that Blackpool unfortunately is a complete dump, people are not going to spend more than a day there or at the very best a weekend. Why would anyone from the South legitimately visit when they can stop at Alton Towers if they want to go on rides?
    It's sad really because they have a niche in their heritage rides. I see people calling for investment in modern rides but they won't have the budget to compete with other UK Parks. Icon is a poor ride and installations of rides like this will be the final nail in the coffin.

  • @TheDoctor46UK
    @TheDoctor46UK Před měsícem

    It sure is a sad decline. I would no longer be against a sale and takeover. I was previously against it due to worries that the park would lose its charm and atmosphere. For me, the atmosphere has largely gone and the charm is slowly eroding away and as a fan/customer, I feel quite disenchanted with it lately.
    For what was one of if not the premier attraction in the country to be going into lets face it, the thick end of a decade by time anything new is planned/built without a new ride, and seemingly struggling to keep on top of what is already there shows how it sadly has fallen and the struggles they seem to have just managing and keeping on top of what is there.
    For us, we know what it was, what it can be and perhaps that buys them some time. I wonder however how new visitors must feel? The new slogan "more than you think!" I mean really, to get to Big One you have to walk past at least half a dozen closed rides and empty spaces of former ones. I hate being so down and negative about the place but it is what it is. Fingers crossed better times are ahead

    Ride holds a special place to me, last ride I ever went on with my grandparents, and we got stuck on the lifthill for 10 minutes 😂
    Hot ice just doesn’t attract me, and it doesn’t for a lot of people, it’s clear to see that the park isn’t getting as much love as it could be getting, and some of their decisions do baffle me
    Grand prix was a staple of a ride, and I used to always look forward to going on it, and try to ignore its long queue almost all the time, but that’s probably because of how long it took to load, which can’t be controlled lol
    I don’t want BPB to have a reputation of not delivering, we’ve seen it with the Wild Mouse, and we expected something else, which we got a Hub that isn’t even open most of the time.
    They have the tools to be a fantastic theme park, and used to utilise, they’ve suddenly stopped utilising them for whatever reason.

  • @neptuneproductions8083
    @neptuneproductions8083 Před měsícem

    Very sad to hear + see that River Caves is currently under threat of permanent closure + the same for Ice Blast.
    I think PBR (BPB) still may be able to save the Ice Blast drop tower ride by putting fast compound grease (like they use on the Big One's cars) on the entire shafts and install brand new castor wheels on the car + oil them along with installation of new seats + Safety locking lap bars + restraining belts etc.
    BPB can easily buy castor wheels from Toolstation, B&Q + Screwfix.

    for the record i'm not wishing ill on it but personally BPL looks like its in serious trouble, wish is a shame as its USP is its dark rides and not purely relying on big coasters like towers, and as you say it feels like they're trying to bank roll their pet projects like the hot ice show or the Boulevard hotel, yes good side incomes but its not what will ultimately draw people in and with the loss of so many attractions so far in the last decade with more to go seemingly with no plan of replacement is worrying. there is no place like BPB and I really hope they find their footing soon

  • @Fanriffic2020
    @Fanriffic2020 Před měsícem

    I always feel that you can't get too sentimental towards ANY ride because it could easily get shut down and removed at anytime but you will ALWAYS have the old memories to look back on. There has been so many rides removed over the years at BPB and I miss some of them, but the newer rides now create new memories for me. Another way I look at it is - say Blackpool Pleasure Beach closed for good (hope it never does), I would miss it terribly but I have my memories of better days and there's always other Theme Parks and Amusement Parks to go to, so I would get over the loss very easily. Regarding the River Caves and Ice Blast, I think their days are numbered along with Steeplechase and Revolution.

    I think Pleasure Beach as a whole is reflective of Blackpool itself, cost cutting, cheap tat to tie them over to the next year etc. When you have seaside resorts such as Llandudno with more things to do and look at, the east of Lincolnshire and other places with fair access, then look at Pleasure Beach, it is heartbreaking and yes I know not many seaside resorts in the UK have an amusement park, but at the same time not all have casino's or more nightclubs than Manchester do they?

They are going to be feel outdated to casuals who might prefer universal studios if that goes ahead or alton towers who are upping their game recently.

    Id love to know how much is spent on Hot Ice each season. In all honesty i really haven't seen the point in it and i really cant figure out why anyone who is into going to shows would come to an amusement park to see one. I dont know how anyone could get the message to the high up people at BPB, but getting rid of this unwanted white elephant would free up a substantial amount of money for the park to keep the old rides like the river caves going ( people who continually rant about tearing the old rides out have no understanding of BPB. BPB IS ALL ABOUT THE HERITAGE, without that youve just got another theme park) Personally i think Hot Ice would be far more suited as an end of pier attraction.
