Yes! Please do a show on freezing your credit! Is it an intimidating process? Do the credit score companies try to bully you and talk you out of freezing your credit? Do these companies demand one of your kidneys? Do you have to give them SO much data that they can just "accidentally leak" those data to data brokers...and you know the rest? You don’t actually talk to anyone - it’s all done online. But be prepared because you do need to provide a lot of personal info about yourself to both lock and (usually temporarily) unlock your account. The lender that will need to verify you will usually tell you which bureau they use and how long they need to access it for, so you only need to unlock at one bureau usually for less than a day.
I put a credit lock on mine and it was quite easy. But, I used an identity theft protection service. I won't tell you which one as I don't want to look like I'm advertising. However, I think any major identity theft service would provide the link to freeze or lock your credit. Otherwise. You can go to Experion, or Trans union, or equifax, the three credit bureaus. Usually, if you put a freeze on one, they send it to the others who do like wise. And to answer your last question, no they don't try to talk you out of it. They recommend it if you think you have a need to do it. One more thing. There are two different types of things you can do. One is a freeze the other is less drastic called a lock. I did a lock, years ago snd have never unlocked them. I won't explain the difference as I may miss something important. You can read about them on any of the three bureaus sites.

i was a little miffed when signing up for a government website (DHS or something) it immediately asked me 'do you recognize this address?' and a few of my former address' were listed BEFORE I EVEN LOGED IN FOR THE FIRST TIME... ugh. I know my information is out there but seriously, that's like a dumb-stick to the back of my head :/.
