  • Parts are in! Now these are not OEM parts but I will modify them to make them work. You’ll get to see what needs to be done and what areas are critical to success but the repairs are successful. This breakdown cost about $30 to repair. It could have been more. I like that it is repairable without too much difficulty. Now I need to get it back to work.

    NEAT idea, to cut the gear with the Dremel tool!
    I've always went to a friends place, & used their lathe to customize the gears.
    This will save me a trip next time!

    I bought this bulldozer back in 2017 and no problems with at all. Just routine maintence. Added a cooling system. Great video.

      If I was small like the scale crew that thing would be a monster. My mechanic is working out pretty good so far. I might give him a raise.

    A well serviced an maintained machine can last way so much longer than a machine that gets ignored and never serviced , a little more grease in here i like your thoughts , just about to pick up my 1st r/c earthmoving machine , i bought the komatsu 4200XL excavator , so i,ll be like you if it needs doing it gets done

      I saw that also. A large trigger clamp will make taking your tracks on and off a breeze.

      Yea I noticed that too but track was coming back off for more modifications anyway so I left it. Good catch guys!

    Hello my modeling friend. That was a very good repair TOP. But you're missing a small lathe.
    With that you would have the little ones faster and cleaner
    can shorten gears. It was super instructive to see that. Have fun with your models.
    Greetings Kalle from Germany

    • @digitrc
      @digitrc  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you. Yes a Lathe would be awesome but if I can accomplish the task with what I have then it saves money I can spend on new equipment!😁

  • @npalen

    You really need to get a small solvent wash tank to clean gears and bearings prior to greasing and reassembly. Also, not a good idea to be using an abrasive cutoff wheel right next to the bearings and gears.

    save the best one for reference for future like the thickness. maybe make a jig that will give you the right thickness without guessing

  • @TriplethreatindustriesRC

    Do you know what is causing the gears to fail. I pulled mine apart before ever running it and noticed substantial gear slop and almost no grease . After hrs of adjusting and grease it’s a lot better. Lucky I have not had a problem yet.

    • @digitrc
      @digitrc  Před rokem

      You know I’ve only had this problem consistently with the one side and I think it was poor gear mesh. I have a whole new drive standing by for when this one fails again. It would be nice if the tolerance was tighter but…
      With the other side the only problem I had, I caused. And brushes getting worn on the motor itself which is not a big deal. I hope yours continues running well. I think this gear problem might have been a fluke or at least not a real common problem.

    Would have been possible to order the gears from the bulldozer manufacturer?

    • @digitrc
      @digitrc  Před 2 lety

      Yes you can get them from Rc4wd but I don’t like the quality of the stock gears. In fact I have a set of the stock gears for it but I didn’t want to put those back in. Very brittle metal. But yes it is easy enough to keep it with OEM parts.

    • @digitrc

      I did not. I will look into that. I wonder if it’s similar to the loctite that comes with some tamiya kits. Thanks for the tip.
