Taiwan has never declared independence. The ROC claims to be the legitimate government of mainland China and the Chinese Civil War is not officially over. Chiang Kai Shek was offered for Taiwan to be recognized as an independent country but he declined.
Democracy always lose to Communism. In China communism there is no opposition. In Democracy oppositions are well funded and enriched by the enemies.
Would you rather live in a place where you have no say whatsoever in how you're treated by those in power or a place where you could say "excuse me sir, you can't do this to me, I have rights?" My question is if USA follows One China policy, why does it support Taiwan soverignity as separate nation and provide military hardware to it. Taiwan Relations Act passed by USA basically contradicts One China policy and allows it to mess up things for its own geopolitical gains
