Me and my dad are going crabbing and fishing. You've helped me learn so much about fishing and costal foraging. Thank you x
Good on you ! I hope you catch some beasts đ„
@@SMASHFISHING Thank you. It means a lot to me. I've also been watching all of your vids . Obviously I'm subscribed đ
Love going winkling and getting the odd brown crab over the years, my 17 year old is thinking of other things nowadays, so do it on my own now, shame the kids get old to quick!
Agreed itâs amazing how much he has taught his fan base itâs crazy
I dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
mullet are quite delicious. People always said they were trash fish because they are "bottom eaters". Well, if you eat the stomach, no fish would taste good. I finally tried some fried. People rant about how good tilapia are. I call tilapia the mashed potatoes of fish Mullet is good firm and tasty meat. And we catch them on bread, or in cast nets.
You've got such beautiful, bountiful water.
Once you get out to the islands here, our water is clear, too. But the Gulf is shallow for 4-5 hundred yards. (150-200 meters) Where the southern United States meets the Gulf of Mexico, you can't see your feet in knee deep water. But we grew up on that.
Blue crab, oysters, and shrimp are abundant. There are Hundreds of species of delicious fish, as well. I hope to be posting a video before the dog days of summer. I did one, but accidentally made it facebook live, instead of youtube. Didn't catch anything, so, no big deal
Now, back to your video....
~rad~
My 4 year old asked if you were okay, you didn't do your intro the same. He was worried you were a little tired, there was no "woo." Thank you for the hours of entertainment.
I was ok thank you , i was fishing the hole day before and all night đ€Ł so I was very tired , well spotted from you tho haha thanks for watching
Great video Smash đđHELL YEAH
Fantastic video đđ» always an interesting watch on Smash, great channel
The hole in his hoodie haha
Lovin the hoodie cut out mate lol, great video mate
I haven't had mullet in 24 years. We used to go fishing with a neighbour when we where living in New Zealand, he was 6' 4"so he would take an end of the net and walk into the sea chest high, my husband is 5' 8" so he was closer to the shoreline....great fun.
Then we'd go home and get the BBQ going and that was dinner every time.
Now we live inland in Australia and too far from the sea. Another great video thanks Jay.
Thanks for watching đ
I surprised you haven't got any sponsors for your channel yet. You put out great content every upload.
Thanks dude I get offers but Not any good ones yet , thanks for watching
you can also try using a chum bag for mullet,we used to pre soak an uncut loaf in a little fish oil and water over night then put it in an old onion sack and hang it in the water to create a scent trail or slick, used to bring all sorts in and you could literally watch them attacking the bag sometimes!
Yay! I got crappy news on Thursday so I've been a bit bummed all weekend but seeing a new video has cheered me up. đ
Thanks for watching and I hope everything get better for you âïž
Great vid, great mullet, great eating, lovely scenery, well filmed, you lucky bugger.
Excellent and, as always, informative video! Such a good looking big fish as well! You filled your belly on that catch to be sure. It was such a beautiful day! Thanks for taking us along! đŁ
Valerie Irwin thanks for watching đ really enjoyed this trip
Mullet like that are great in the oven long and slow uncovered .Also wrap whole fish in wet newspaper chuck in the fire scales guts and all when cooked remove skin and guts .Quick and very easy
Never had mullet and not a fan of bass. The catch and release is what bass fishing is about. Hell Ya.
Definitely David , unless a bass is gut hooked or bleeding Iâll take it for the table , thanks for watching
Fabulous Video Jay đđ. You don't get yellow stopd mullet down there. The best place is Whales. Thay tight like carp, it's Awesome đ
thank you for teaching me how to fish and cach some fish it realy helps me be happyer espeshly because of what is going on now
Thatâs nice to hear ! Thanks for watching
Thereâs loads in Cornwall where I fish, never fish for them, will give it a try this summer.
I've been watching your videos while I've been out of work over the weeks, even burnt my potatoes while doing the Sunday roast watching, you owe me one mate!.

What a great moment.. catch fish and cook it immediately. Fresh and sweet taste of the fish! I'm really love this video. đđđ
Thanks for watching
@jay my mom made dough balls to fish with. Like you do with bread. You can make alot. You only need self rising flour and just a little water. Mixed it thick. We make a bunch and put in sandwich bags.
Glad to see you using the fish oil in your chum mix, if they are in the area, gets them going.
Your Mrs does not know what she is missing eating fresh straight out of the sea.
The best fish dish I ever had was Mullet while on holiday in Devon, cooked with Soy sauce, Ginger and fresh Chillies.
Great video Jay.
Tight lines.
Thanks dude đ„
Nice vid Smash enjoyed very much mate
Well done! Made me hungry đ
Love the camera cut out in the hoodie! Classic đđ
Haha thanks for watching
Cool channel bud, like the info and no nonsense fishing. I see some proper lunker mullet mid summer in my area so will have to give it a go.
Nice ! Thanks for watchingb
I love how you cut a nice square hole in your sweatshirt to let your GoPro see through! LOL
The man munchies again. đ€Łđ đ€Łđ love grey ghost hunting they are the ultimate challenge in uk waters.
Andy Scott thanks mate there great fun to catch đŁđ„
@@SMASHFISHING they can test the patience of a saint but when you get one it makes it all worthwhile and you forget all the missed bites and frustration. đđđ
Andy Scott so true mate I lost 2 fish before I finally got one lol wanted to pack up an go home lol

Love your videos Man ! i am a french guy living in Miami. I can't spend a day without watching you foraging or cooking. BTW, where the english expression "forgive my french" comes from ? never heard about it. Continue as you are doing especially with your awesome accent ! Best luck.
This is a great fishing video jay really some good information and the weather looked absolutely perfect out there ...hell yeah!
Itâs lovely atm đ thanks for watching
Yummy! I can't wait til the rivers melt here in Barrow, Alaska! Fresh white fish is best dipped in seal oil đ
It was well worth the wait mate. Im actually thinking about going mullet fishing now, Maybe one day. Very good video really enjoyed it.
Definitely mate haha itâs worth a go đ really fun when you hook one
Love your channel.....dad tip....put the fish out of its misery straight away, don't let it slowly die in a minuscule rockpool fighting for O2....
I hope and pray that you go fishing for carp in a video one day as a big fan I couldnât ask for anything more and would live it so much â€ïžâ€ïž
Another Brilliant video, Smash! I eat a lot of fish and find bass a stronger tasting fish then mullet, good with a good Malbac red wine, I know a heathen for drink red wine with fish. As you say mullet is firmer texture then bass. Mullet is also very good in a fish pie!
Thanks for watching David đ
After a few rough days I was thrilled to see a video uploaded, your picture quality is outstanding, what a cracking catch!!
Sharon McCrum thanks sharron I hope things pick up for you âïž stay positive

Your awesome lad! Been watching since you released the bigger of the 2 lobsters and I gotta say THAT is respect.
I went fishing today and after watching this why havenât I cooked a catch on my boat? Will have to give it a go.
Cheers from Australia đŠđș
Thanks for watching dude much appreciated đ
got to have a goat catching one of these when the lock down here in Wales is over. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching đ
I always called mullet poo fish cos I thought they weâre bad eating due to their diet! Canât wait to try this now! Happy fishing mate
ImJack RS the truth is dude any fish will feed on crap haha mullet mainly feed on seaweed , thanks for watching
Excellent. What great fun. Do you actually do any food shopping or do you just survive on the fish you catch? Have a great week.
Great video and tips mate!
dukeofmodena thanks for watching
Nice fish it looked good! Love how you go fishing for all the different things on your island! Keep it upđđđđŠ
Thanks for watching đ
Thumbs up to you mate. With your lifestyle you must be well healthy. I love the way you promote Guernsey butter. When i was a milkman, the gold top made from channel island cows, wasn't very healthy, but boy did it taste fab.
Good advice with disposing of the barbecue, here in North Wales I think it was last year someone had a BBQ on the beach when they finished they covered it with sand & went home. Another family with a toddler came to the beach & the toddler walked over the buried BBQ suffering serious burns in the process, I think he even needed skin grafts.
I love this kind of catch n cook
Never herd of mullet been eaten I canât wait to try it myself
Great video jay, Iv never eaten mullet will have to give it a go
looked filling . nice size fish too
Boom.
WOOooo
Nice upload Jay
Ive been freezing any old bread weve got for just this type of fishing and gonna try it for the longnose too
;-)
Nice ! Hopfully you get some dude
@@SMASHFISHING im gonna try your tip of adding some fish oil to the chum.
I seem to remember you saying the more oil in your chum, the more longnose like it
Karl Stokes yes , mackerel and garfish get attracted to more fish oil and mullet can be brought in on just bread
@@SMASHFISHING cheers Jay.
;-)
BTW you are the best at filleting a fish that I have observed with exception to someone who does it professionally. Most people mangle the fish or waste too much meat. Congrats (even with a dull knife)!
Yes! Mullet is definitely my favourite for the table. My wife prefers me to bring um back over bass. Great fishing
Love this channel!!
Gut the fish first, the belly is edible and usually part of the fillet. Slice through the rib cage and then take the bones off with the knife for a boneless fillet. That's how we do it here on the west coast of Canada. Nice fish though, she was a beauty.
Another great video Jay!!.have you ever thought of approaching a tv company to commission a series of smash fishing catch and cook? Maybe around uk to start off and if it took off like I'm sure it would, future series's going to different countries around the worldđđ
BM Fishing definitely not mate I have my own show on CZcams haha I wouldnât want to be told what to do by a company, thanks for watching đ
I loved this video, I can remember schools of Mullet down in Florida and when I tried to catch one, a local told me that they were mainly vegetarian...I did catch some some snapper tho! Are you allowed to stack rocks in an area that just has a bunch of flat stones to make lobster caves??? Or is that considered trapping them/ just thought it could potentially start a new spot for you to look. Cheers man, I show your videos to all my friends and family!! We live on the shores of Lake Ontario Canada!!
Great vid again Jay, quick Q how long is your leader? I'm defo going mullet fishing looks well chillđ also looks tasty as!
Cheers mate watching now đđ»đ»đ»
I hope you enjoy đ
I always use squid as hookbait along with the bread groundbait much tougher also use a big waggler float caught bundles and stays on the hook
Hey, fantastic catch. As a fishmonger you really need to get a proper fish filleting knife đȘ ie ultra sharp!
Haha yes mate I was bait fishing the night before and blunted it so made for hard filleting lol thanks for watching
Great fishing Jay. Was that a thick lip? Apparently red mullet is the best tasting out of all our local mullets đ
Yeah thatâs a think lip mate and yes ! Red mullet is my favorite eating fish out of everything , very sweet and firm meat đ thanks for watching
An Uncle had an old launch, at Easter time he went up the Hunter River, NSW. His aim was to catch mullet, when he caught them he bled them straight away and then put them straight on the barbecue. He said doing this Mullet was the choicest fish in the ocean.
It's lovely in a fresh white buttered role and I prefer it to alot of other fish
Yeee boy! Thats some epic lunch time!
That looked delicious mate. đ
Paladin Smith thanks for watching
Yâall ainât gonna say anything about the GoPro hole he cut in his shirt? Lol good deal man, enjoy the videos!
I've always chucked Mullet back I was told they taste muddy so I've never bothered, I will in future, that looked really good
David Storton you wonât throw them back after eating one dude haha thanks for watching
Mud in the ocean?
My dad, my youngest son and I are fish-acholics. They go out as often as they can. I can say I've never had mullet but bass is great.
Not tried mullet yet or managed to catch one! On my bucket list
Nice Job! I throw the cast net off the dock and catch of bucket of the mud suckers! Never eaten one before!
There pretty good eating , thanks for watching
Nice one Jay,,,,,,,,,,,hell yeah :)
Thanks Jay another stonkker of a video nice one
Thanks dude
That looks delicious mate! We fish and eat mullet where I'm from and I agree that they're very tasty! A bit bony tho.
Great vid again i must try garlic salt
Itâs lovely but donât over do it as it dries your mouth out đ€Ł a little is great ! Thanks for watching
@@SMASHFISHING cheers for the advice dude
Love a little day trip with the BBQ. Eat what you catch while you catch some more. Hell yeah x
Thanks for watching! This was a lovely day đ
Great video mate
Your videos always make me want to go out and do this
Haha thanks for watching
Hey, great video as always. I would recommend you not to use any aluminium foil in combination with food especially when you going to heat it, or when you put something salty or acidic in the foil cause itâs really bad for your health.
Maybe do a side by side comparison with bass and mullet. Same seasoning cooked the same way.
Chefs tip
Mullet makes an amazing curry the meat is so firm its brilliant for a curry that being Indian or my favourite Thai curry
Green Thai curry paste chunks of mullet and coconut milk a few sliced green peppers and a handful of mange tout and reduce down eat with jasmine rice đđđđ
Love hat bag from Iceland. Have you been buying Icelandic cod LOL
Nice Catch!!!
I like your bb grill. Did you make it or bought it? Is that just a regular foil? Iâm from the US and I havenât anything like it.
My mouth was water watching you eating that and poor Sam missed out
Never tasted mullet, always used it for bait....might have to give it a try đ»
Well worth a try mate
