  • Hi there, in today's video, we explained "why brake by wire system is coming to your car" and "how do brake by wire technology works". In the automotive industry, brake-by-wire technology is the ability to control brakes through electrical means. It can be designed to supplement ordinary service brakes or it can be a standalone brake system. This technology is widely used on all hybrid and battery electric vehicles, including the Toyota Prius. From this video, we hope that you will get a clear idea and all about BBW (Brake by Wire). If your questions are "Is brake by wire safe?", "Which cars have brake by wire?", and "Is Tesla brake by wire?". Then watch this video till the end.

My bmw i4 is brake by wire. This helps it blend regen with actual brakes.
I don’t like the idea of brake by wire in gas cars though. Unless it comes with big benefits, like automatic collision avoidance, etc

who does your visuals? they put the pressing of an AdBlue regen button in for a vid segment on regenerative braking in a BEV lol

Ain't no way that brake by wire will be allowed the NHTSA. Aww heck naw

How could this go bad? Anyone who has ever hooked up Electric trailer lights and brakes knows they always work!

There is a hydraulic pickup system

Oh yeah, because we TOTALLY design breaklights to the same standards as our breaks.
Sarcasm aside. Not only would they be enginered to be more durable and last. They definitely will require less maintenence. Oh, and will be redundancy in the system for worse case scenarios.
I guarantee you they will be safer... Eventually!
I mean we have had fly by wire which has to deal with so much more stress, and you rarely hear about a crash caused by a catrasophic failure of flight controls right?
Now what I don't understand... Is the new cars like the E Groningen with break by wire breaks still basically have hydraulic break lines connecting to the pedals if I recall. So it basically has both old and new, with the old as an emergency back up. I'll have to watch the Engineering Explained video on it again, but why even do it then? That is just adding double the complexity...
Anyway I want to see what they come up with for redundancy on a full break by wire system.
