      @ErinsAudioCorner  Před 2 lety +2

      I made it using some scrap 2x4s, a piece of MDF (for the top), some caster wheels and some perforated metal from Lowe's. If you hit the hardware aisle you should be able to find some stock metal tubes, etc and the perforated metal should be there. Just be mindful of the 2x4's you use. I used some scrap ones that were warped and that caused me issues where the steel rack part was too wide or too narrow at certain spots; the gear wouldn't fit properly. So, I had to rebuild with straighter pieces.

When I model your box and drivers, the -3db point is like 35db, but maybe WinISD stinks. • @PsyK1c
    @PsyK1c Před 2 lety +1

    Love the high efficiency speakers! So cool! Just Wondering. I'm my experience Subjectively, it seems like frequency response drops off differently as you move back in distance on smaller inefficient speakers vs large speakers even if they are set to the same perceived volume nearfield. Seems like more high efficiency speakers somehow overcome this, but maybe its just because they can get louder overall?

    • @ErinsAudioCorner
      @ErinsAudioCorner  Před 2 lety +1

      It is *possible* that the smaller ones just don't have the chops. If you notice, I provide a compression graphic in my reviews that shows how/if the response changes as output is increased. Many speakers have a pretty big shift in FR as you go from 76dB to 96dB and 102dB. These are at 1m. So, you can imagine that in a large room where you are further from the speakers than 1m, that translates to less output. IOW, 102dB at 1m for a single speaker is about 92-94dB for a pair in a room at 4 meters. If we know the FR changes then it seems reasonable that could be what you're noticing.

    @canweshoot Před rokem

    Erin, have you done any measuring in this theater room? I ask because your baffle wall is very flimsy-looking. I've learned from installing a lot of speakers in baffle walls, that if the wall is not extremely rigid and and tightly sealed around the speaker, all manner of resonances are created. It takes serious bracing, double layer (5/8" drywall or one 5/8" MDF plus a 5/8" drywall layer) glued and screwed. All this make an enormous difference in performance for LCRs. What model surround is that? JBL Pro 8340A? Good choice...or the 8320 in a room that size. Cheers.

    You did some very good work here Erin, thank you for sharing. This randomly pulled up on my front page and this is the nicest space from a non-theater room creator I have seen so far. I also have made the movie poster acoustic panels and I loved to see them. If you put some little cork feet on the back of them and get mounts that hang so there is an air gap they actually perform better. I created mine with a little thick lumber so it is built into the frame, yours though have many less mistakes in the construction than mine :)
    For the screen, you mentioned the incorrect measurement, so I take it this cannot be true 16:9 due to that? Are you limited on throw distance on being able to take advantage of the extra real estate on the top and/or sides?
    Excellent work all around though, it is cleaner than mine and I enjoyed the tour. I also have dogs though and I know what you mean by trying to keep it all cleaned up. I have dog blankets and toys all around me as I type this haha.

      IIRC, I believe that Erin had this house built from the ground up on an empty lot, and the theater room and electrical runs were incorporated into his plans from the start...IOW, the dedicated electrical runs were not a retrofit or add-on after the fact. It's much less expensive when these types of dedicated circuits are included in the construction and electrical plans before building begins.

    Why doesn't the projector's image not line up right with the screen? Looks like black bars on top and bottom and left and right. Could probably just zoom the projector in a bit, or move back to increase image size.

    • @ErinsAudioCorner
      @ErinsAudioCorner  Před 2 lety

      Because I screwed up the dimensions when I made the screen and never re-built it. That's why.

    • @DarthHater100
      @DarthHater100 Před 2 lety

      @@ErinsAudioCorner Easy mistake! I usually recommend to put the zoom in the middle, rather than fully maxed out, when setting up projector and screen. Then you have some leeway and can zoom in or out a little bit, and do final lineup without needing to remount anything.
      Since it sounds like an easy zoom isn't possible, it wouldn't be too hard to move the projector back. . . probably even 2 inches and you'd be okay. Move it 4 inches back, and zoomed in a bit, and that would be perfect.
      Why would you go on to do that whole build without setting up the screen right? That's like someone asking why there's no sound from the subs, and saying that the cables are too short. Like, okay, I guess that's a reason not to have working subs, but if the cables are too short, you get longer ones before moving on to room treatments or movie posters lol
      Home theater basically has two jobs: audio and video. Should nail down the basics of both of those before all that other stuff.

    • @ErinsAudioCorner
      @ErinsAudioCorner  Před 2 lety

      @@DarthHater100 I don't think it's that big of an issue, personally. In some cases (full 4:3) it actually works out quite well. Standard 16:9 obviously has a top and bottom. Personally, I liken it to the folks who have anamorphic screens with the removable inserts; I wouldn't care to have to deal with that and I don't consider the extra "dead" space an issue.

    • @DarthHater100
      @DarthHater100 Před 2 lety

      @@ErinsAudioCorner More like "folks who have anamorphic screens with removable inserts THAT THEY DON'T USE THE INSERTS (screen masks) AND HAVE CRAZY GREY BARS"!!
      At least your movie pictures aren't smaller than the frame and don't have bars on all four sides showing the backboard! Glad to see those get the proper treatment!
      Would be weird if movie posters had the same problem as the primary focus of the entire room, all the equipment, and all the content being watched: the screen!
      I could never do a screen of any size without screen masks to frame it in nice, let alone have grey bars in 16x9 _and_ 2.35. That's just a lose-lose situation.
      LOL just busting your balls. Nice work on the build!
