      I agree! This is one game where having a live mic in the room really adds to the experience.

    Hello! I just bought a pop n music 3 cab. But it has pop n music 1 the first mix. I'm trying to find information about upgrading my cab not sure if you can help me

    • @brianho25
      @brianho25  Před rokem

      Am I understanding correctly that the cabinet has a pop'n music 3 marquee but it is running pop'n music (1)? That's a little bit odd. Seems like maybe it got upgraded and then downgraded. pop'n music 1-3 all run on the same hardware. It's called djmain and is the same hardware they used in 5-key beatmania. Switching games consists of swapping the hard drive and some chips on the board. Perhaps the drives and chips for 2 and 3 are stored somewhere in the cabinet?
      If you want to go beyond 3, you're going to need new hardware. pop'n has had several over the course of its very long run. You'd need Firebeat for 4-8, Python 1 for 9-14, and one of the PC variants for 15 up to the present game.

    nice play! what led/lamps do you have on the buttons? i kind of want to get smth like it for my DIY pop'n and my Faucetwo, i really like the fading in effect it has

    • @brianho25
      @brianho25  Před rokem +2

      This is a 1st gen pop'n cabinet, so the button lights are basic incandescent bulbs. Konami included some resistors on the i/o board to keep the bulbs "warm" so they light more quickly when the buttons are pressed. This isn't necessary for LEDs which have a much faster response time. If you do go with LEDs, I recommend getting LEDs the match the color of each button. I think it looks nicer than lighting them with white.

      @@brianho25 Thank you for the info! that's very interesting to hear actually never knew that about the cabs!

      @brianho25  Před rokem +1

      @@felyunn I just re-read your initial comment and saw that you liked the "fade in" effect. I somehow forgot you said that from the time I read it to the time I responded or completely glossed over it. If that's the effect that you're going for, you'll probably want to go "old school" and use incandescent bulbs. :)

    • @felyunn

      @@brianho25 All good! but alright! I'd probably have to figure out how to use them on controllers from Gamo2 if you know a way please lmk! thank you again :D
      I usually see the incandescent bulbs used on cabs seeing it on SDVX cabs as well from Twitch livestreams i'd catch, but wondered if i can get the same effect or use them on controllers ^_^

    • @brianho25
      @brianho25  Před rokem +1

      @@felyunn I don't know anything specific about the GAMO2 controllers, but the buttons likely use the same base and voltage as the incandescent bulbs since LEDs are usually designed to be drop-in replacements for them. The only issue you might run into is the need for resistors like I mentioned to make them light faster than they would otherwise. Otherwise the effect may be more "late" than "fade in."

      @brianho25  Před 3 lety

      Other than practice, I'm not really sure. I haven't really thought about pop'n music technique very much. I've just played enough to find what works for me naturally.
      FWIW, this was definitely not my only attempt at this recording and I still made some mistakes.

      I think I first played pop'n something like 17-18 years ago. I've gone through a few periods where I played it a lot, but there have also been several years I probably didn't play it at all.
      I got the plushies in an auction on Yahoo Auctions Japan many years ago.
