Is choke on the top symbol or bottom symbol ?

You show the choke being put on by pushing UP; but in the next frame the choke is shown to be DOWN. Which is it?

For a first time start, or on a cold day, close the choke, so push down, start the outboard and slowly open the choke. If it is a hot day like the day was in the video, or the engine is still warm from running earlier, then open the choke by pushing the switch up or else with the choke closed, it won't start. Hope that helps, happy sailing!

Hello and thanks for your question, I will try and help as best as I can. How old are the spark plugs, they may need changing, also same for the fuel, make sure it is E5 (low ethanol) because modern petrol can go off in just a few weeks. How much oil additive are you mixing with the fuel? Is it the correct ratio such as 10:1, 50:1 or 100:1? Ideally let the outboard run a few minutes to warm up and make sure the teller is ejecting water. Hope that helps, let us know how you get on! ⚓

@@skipperstan hello I have done the all above things I’m abit confused about the choke on the 3.3 mercury. For example when I’m starting the engine I have the choke open right ?

@@manston94 only need to use the choke on a cold start, no need for any choke on a hot day or if the engine is already warmed up. Pull the choke out, start the engine and slowly push the choke back in but only if the engine is happy. If it tries to stall, pull the choke back out a little. All engines seem different I think, some need more choke, others need less. Some engines warm up quickly whereas others take time. Try not to rev the engine until the choke is in and the engine is warm. You might even find that the engine runs better when it always has a little choke, so don't push it all the way in. Hope that helps. ⚓
