    I have a standard golden doodle. Strongest dog I have ever had. Thought I could train her myself. I realized what I wanted was beyond my ability. So I took her to obedience classes. Second class, the instructor put on a prong collar. Gamer changer. She is very well behaved. Neighbors commented on what a difference on our walks. I am 65. She is over 70 lbs. I want to have control over her, not her over me.

    • @Guitarlord26
      @Guitarlord26 Před rokem +13

      @@grzybeklampucerek4507 you clearly don’t understand how a prong collar works or what it does. It’s not about causing pain for the dog. It applies pressure equally around the whole neck as opposed to only the front. When dogs correct each other in nature they draw blood- this is not inhumane. This is how you properly communicate with a dog at the end of a leash.

    • @sarabellaj
      @sarabellaj Před rokem +4

      @@grzybeklampucerek4507 as long as they are fitted properly there's no way to hurt them. I've put on a choke collar and the prong. Even a flat collar will do more damage to the dog then a prong. Maybe you should try it before you talk about it.

    Purely positive trainers are causing a war that doesn’t need to be there. I strongly believe we shouldn’t in fight. We need to do what works for the dog to keep it in the home it’s in. If the owner requires a prong to handle their dog, then a prong is used. If the rot responds best to clickers, we use clickers.

I use them as my service dogs because I have some physical problems that require a big dog. Very happy to see such an improvement with Duke. Its because of bad trainers that these dogs end up in shelters.

    With all young full sized breeds, Mastiffs, Danes St. Benard's or anything over 100 pounds. I use a full choke chain collar and a very short loop hand lead with my hand locked through the loop with zero slake. If they pull at all, I have the power to pull them up right off their front feet to cut off their air supply and let them know on the spot I am in complete control. After not more than 2 or 3 walks they learn to never jerk the owner. Sooner then you think, they totally stop all jerking or charging (but, you must always be prepared if they try it) and after a few weeks of this, the dog will walk right by your side with that short lead & choker collar. When they hit about 3 years old, they will not need the choker collar, but I always use the short no slack loop lead with my hand through the loop, & I never use a long lead.

    I am checking out your shop for courses because I watched you reacting to vids online, and many of your other vids, and everyttime you say something, I am agreeing. I feel like we both want the same things for our dogs, and share the same values. I've got a 5 month old American Bully (XL) and I'm fully aware of what I'm in for. I know she'll pull if I don't train that, same for lunging or being poorly socialised or weird around dogs and other stimuli. I know that for her to succeed, I have to really step up, cause I know training her will not be like training a lab (my older dog).
    Much love from Ireland.

    • @AddysonWatkins-tx1yp
      @AddysonWatkins-tx1yp Před měsícem

      Kinda but for a lighter dog as the GD has too much pulling power and like the other person said it would put too much pressure on the wind pipe but if you have a lighter less strong dog (jack russel, lab, etc) then it would work but it would take more time and energy as the prong collar stimulates a mother dog's bite to correct the dog where the flat collars just somewhat control the dog

    I'm new to the channel and I enjoy the content. great videos. one thing that might help a new dog owner not break their hand is how you hold the leash. Instead of wrapping it around your hand like most people take the leash and wrap it over your thumb into your palm and clutch both sides of it, that creates a rock solid grip unless you decide to open your hand at which point the leash simply falls out your grip and cant get tangled. good leash etiquette can prevent injury along with good training of course.

    Howdy! I love y’all’s videos and aspire to be as great as y’all one day! I’m currently a college student. I thought I wanted to be a vet and have even changed my major after realizing I don’t want to spend 8 years of my life going to school. I was wondering what steps would be best to become a reputable dog trainer like y’all while still continuing college. I have a dog myself and have applied many of y’all’s training tactics to our daily routines. Thanks!!

    When I got my great pyrenese, the pop and gentle leader fixed everything. I didn't have to drag my dog away from a smell to continue our walk.

    Is the aim to eventually stop having to use the prong collar or do you just continue using it as an aid in controlling powerful/distracted/difficult to walk dogs?

    Prong only worked with my Dane for about a year, until he found out if he bolts, mom's letting go because I don't want what happened to this lady, to happen to me. One moment of 'pain' (which I doubt he felt) was worth it to him. Then I tried a head halti - worked great until he decided to bolt - he can slip out of it in a second. I can no longer trust him on walks or anywhere in public.
