We were wrong about Michael Chandler...

- We originally thought Chandler would not have been so successful in the UFC, but he turned out to be the most exciting while also being competitive with everyone he's fought.

If you would have told me 3 years ago that Chandler would be doing this well in the UFC with guys like Nate and Conor wanting to fight him, I wouldn't believe you
You right
Agreed
He is 2-2 with both wins being against shot fighters. Lets calm down a bit
dude relax he beat a 40 year old tony on a losing streak. And had a bad first round with tony as well.
The UFC isn't as far ahead as the marketing teams want us to believe. There's plenty of guys in ONE and Bellator who can hold their own, and if you've got other options it's hard to look at what Dana offers and say "yes"...he's kind of a garbage boss.
Chandler got out of a body lock from Charles Oliveria when nobody has before. That in alone is an insane accomplishment
What does that say about Oliveria

Michael Chandler is really a fighter’s fighter. Well spoken, entertaining, appreciative, risk taking, and amazing heart.
All the love for Chandler.
Not too long ago, many people didn't like him for the opportunities given to him. Those opportunities created all this.
@@TheWeasleMMA truth. UFC brass saw in him what took us multiple fights to see, thus granted him those early opportunities.
He's kinda like the new Robbie Lawler. Have a discussion with pretty much any MMA fan and throw some fighters out there, they may say yea I liked that guy, or nah, I was never a fan, throw Robbie's name out there and 100% of people will say oh hell yea I love Robbie Lawler.

Chandler's biggest strength is that he tries so hard in every aspect of his career. From being the backup fighter for Khabib/Gaethje, taking on all the top competition he's offered, the promos on the mic after the fights, the crazy amount of interviews he does, to the insane performances every time win or lose. Dude deserves to be a star hands down
Very well said. I actually think that when you rank a fighter's success level, that ranking has to encapsulate all of their media preformances, and PPV sales, and overall fan base. Chandler's microphone skills might be on par with Conor McGregor in some ways. Chandler has to be considered as one of the greatest UFC fighters, when you consider his exceptionally good mic skills and the level of entertainment he brings.
All those obligations all with a positive attitude to. Chandler is a great role model for anyone
His work ethic and discipline seems extremely high, crazy workouts posted over the yrs and always been accused of roids. Never been dirty, they to some tests in Bellator and he was clean then to. Freak athlete
You are so on Chandler's hog. He has two wins against two over-the-hill fighters and two loses to competitive opponents in the UFC. He has two losses to Will Brooks, who couldn't even make it in the UFC. Let's see him fight Makhachev.
@@ShredCo A lot of great fighters have lost to lesser competition earlier in their careers... also that was 8 years ago lol. And no, i just appreciate what he's done since he's been in the UFC, which basically every fan should. His 2 losses are against excellent fighters, both who've fought in multiple championship fights. You don't have to think he's a world beater in order to acknowledge the very positive impact he's had in the UFC. He's not my favorite fighter, he's not the best in the division, Makhachev would likely destroy him, but that doesn't affect my respect and appreciation for what he's done in the UFC because it shouldn't.
This guy is truly legendary. Gets so much criticism even from me but always entertaining us. Loses the first against Tony gets hurt and dropped. Comes back and Send him into the shadow realms
Dude you act like tony rocked him 🤣😂🤣 it was a quick stun that didn't even last a second his legs were immediately underneath him and then went on to take him to the ground and control him there for 3 mins just like the last 3 years Tony gets taken down and can no longer get back up. Thank God Chandler finished Tony's career he will never ever be the same after this. once your lights are turned off at that age in that way it becomes way easier to get KOed again Tony will be the new Luke rockhold hopefully he gets the hint and retires dude is washed

@@TheWeasleMMA amazing
Juicer
He’s had his moments in all of the fights, almost KOed Charlie Olives and was the closest to beating him, and I think he could beat Gaethje if he doesn’t try to be a crowd pleaser
People say he tried too hard to please the crowd against Gaethje but the truth is, his leg was so done in and he was rocked many times, the only way he could've won is a brawl and that's what he tried to bait Gaethje into doing in the third, it just didn't work but make no mistake. Playing it smart would've of worked either
@@razzprince2877 in first round if he picked his shots when he rocked Justin, instead of just swinging wild, he could have won
That Gaethje fight was so winnable for Chandler
@@imma5761 But by the second and third. He didn't have the footwork, cardio or brain functionality to explode and land on Gaethje whereas Gaethje looked fresher. Once Gaethje landed that uppercut that knocked him down, it was a different fight from a different fighter.
Poirerer and Justin dropped Charly too lol
One thing really stands out about Chandler to me: He was the only guy I have seen who was not afraid to hang with Oliveira on the ground. When both Dustin and Justin dropped Oliveira they stopped and waited patiently for Oliveira to get back up and gave him time to recover---- not Chandler! He jumped right into the fire and brought the ground and pound! He is the only guy who is truly not afraid of Oliveira's submissions game. No hesitation whatsoever.

I saw his potential even on his loses. I feel like some of the fights he lost was for not controlling his aggression. Some fighters will use that against him to set him up for counters. Then again that is his style. But for what i seen on his last fight, he is evolving.
I thought the same, could be champion with a measured approach
I think he lost against Charles and Justin because he wanted to entertain fans more than anything. With a smart gameplan I think he could win. All 155 top contenders are neck and neck, as evidence by all of them rocking each other in their fights. Even the recent Justin vs Charles fight, for as short as it was, was close as Justin dropped him twice.
I was always pretty hyped about him but he's certainly exceeded my expectations
Well that's good champ, I know he was worried about your expectations 😉😂 jk man, completely agree. He knows he's not here for the long haul so he's well up for a scrap. I know Justin beat him but Justin was so glad when that fight ended, he couldn't help but respect him. Timing is everything and he's now given himself great options. 👍
Hyped, you mean?

I don’t know how anyone dislikes the guy. Great fighter, great showmanship, and great role model for others. 💪💪
He just used to be a little bit douchey
You are certainly right, that he is a fighter that brings some action and entertainment but still ... it's not hard to think of some some reasons why not everyone likes him:
- suspected juicing
- wild brawling style, instead of well-rounded skill - literally a "hit or miss" fighter
- kind of a meat-head type - loud, simple-minded, egocentric
He is basically the exact oppsite of Charles Olivera, so naturally people that like more technical, "thinking" fighters like Olivera or Khabib won't really appreciate the "showmanship" of fighters like chandler.

Michael Chandler vs Eddie Alvarez might be one of the greatest lightweight fights of all time. One that perhaps flew under the radar since the first fight happened back in 2011 at Bellator when Bellator wasn't nearly as huge. Both fights were amazing but especially that first one. Chandler is a savage and for sure an all time great at 155 regardless of his losses, regardless of his time at Bellator. He's UFC worthy and I'm happy to see more of the ''casual'' fans accepting Chandler as a legitimate world class fighter
It's not just that but as amazing as it was, it got overshadowed by arguably an even greater fight on the same night -- Shogun Rua vs Dan Henderson I
What’s crazy is how elite Eddie Alvarez used to be. Was a straight up killer. Just taken so much damage.
Every fan that hasn't seen those fights, need to do themselves a favor and watch them
Close loses great wins ,he deserves title .
I remember when I was younger, the first mma fight I watched was when I stumbled upon Chandler Vs Alvarez. I instantly fell in love with the sport and the two became some of my favorite fighters of all time. I always knew Chandler would be a monstrous force in UFC and wondered why it took so long for him to actually sign into the promotion. I’m super glad I got to see Chandler fight for the UFC and very proud of how he’s been running through / giving the best of the best a run for their money.
Chandler had all out wars with Alvarez.
I think he probably took a pay cut to come to the UFC. I think he was basically the face of Bellator for a long time, and so they were paying him millions. I think he came to the UFC for the pride of knowing he could do it, and he was willing to take a pay cut. He knew he would regret it, if he didn't give it a shot. At this point, the UFC should definetely be paying Chandler more than Adesanya and Masvidal. There's no way an Adesnya card sells more tickets at this point. And Masvidal seems to be in Nate Diaz territory now, way past his prime.
In terms of feel and ability:
Charles replaced Tony Ferguson
Islam replaced Khabib

I’m with you. Stopped following the UFC for a while, all the trash talking guys, personal attacks, fights breaking out at weigh ins, attacking buses, sucker punching in public etc, got repetitive. Chandler knows how to ‘respectfully’ get the fight he wants. Never a sore loser, or a gloating winner. Great guy. I just hope he doesn’t have long-term brain issues from all the wars he’s been in. Chandler's a monster. How has he gotten only more muscular later in his career?? A bit suspicious if you ask me. But you’d think dealing with Usada would only make him deflate, not get bigger…
I think for starters the UFCcameras are and gave always been leagues above Bellator. Everyone looks shorter and darker in Bellator while everything is more clear in the UFC. He's still as muscular but I think the fact that he's cutting so much to 155 he looks shredded asfff. That being said if he was using I wouldn't be surprised and I'm SURE Usada has popped up on him hoping to catch knowing he was teammates with TJ at one point but never failed a test so can only say so much.
Never failed a test as far as I'm aware, plus hes been doing a ton of work with a nutritionist. He really hit the right notes on that promo after the fight. It was fire.
From the moment they signed him I knew he was going to be one of my favorites
I loved watching Michael chandler in Bellator, thank you for spotlighting him
A big thing I love about Chandler too is that in an era when every fighter seems to feel entitled to big paychecks just for being in the UFC, Chandler just fucking goes for it and earns his paycheck. No complaints, no bullshit, he just goes in there and gets it done. You could put on a fight card where it's literally just Michael Chandler fighting and I'd buy it without thinking because the dude delivers every damn time.
fight that make sense imo:
1. chandler vs makachev the winner get title shot.
2. oliveira vs conor for money fight.

I'm a newer fan, only having started watching MMA in 2016. Even I knew from the first moment I saw Chandler fight at Bellator 212 vs Brent Primus with that nerve injury to his leg and still whooping his ass, I knew this dude at the very least had the heart and drive to compete at the highest level, and when he got signed to the UFC, and I saw all the people doubting him, oh man, I couldn't wait for this dude to become UFC champion. I still firmly believed he is the most dangerous man in the division if he utilizes all his tools.
He's polished in essentially every way. Listening to him talk is a breath of fresh air too. Seems a thoroughly decent human being.
I remember right after the Hooker ko he became ny favorite fighter, I binged all his fights. Future legend
Can someone upload the video of him looking for his son when he climbed on the cage? Such a beautiful moment i need that
I love the pressure Chandler puts down. He is a beast for sure would like to see him champ one day.
Chandler’s approach is minimalist so he can focus on execution. Like how Peyton Manning used to run the same play all game in the NFL; he just went through his mental checklist on every play with five different receivers and in the moment he’d decide where to attack depending on the defensive look.
That's a great comparison. Simplistic tools sometimes makes the path to the goal easier.

Michael vs Benson fights in early career were amazing
I started watching the UFC regularly because of some dude named Frankie Edgar, which, was putting crazy and exiting fights... well many years after, this guy reminds me of him. Chandler has his heart, and his fights are so impredictable. Plus, he is figting THE BESTS in the LW.
And look where Will Brooks is now.... headlining our last 2 regional cards in my city. Art of Scrap 3 and Art of Scrap 4 (the gym where my son trains is also who promotes AoS).
When he came to the UFC I didn't like him (and you mentioned why, I think it was just UFC bias), but every single time he's fought he's earned my respect and by now, I would happily watch him fight anyone. With the skill level he's fought at I would be happy with Dana giving Michael Chandler any fight he wants. I've wanted to see Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor for a while now and I got so hyped when he made the callout. Personally I like the matchup for the entertainment value, in terms of skill I could see either fighter knocking the other out. UFC has a gem on their hands - win or lose, people love it when the man fights.
