I’m in Seaside(7 hours from home Oceanside) right now watching this because I’m hitting the surf tomorrow …
Perch is the realistic goal but a Striper would make my trip 🍻
Come back and let us know how you do!
Wow!!! Awesome! Bro!!!! Perfect!!! Great to be able to watch this experience! Also learn from it! Tight lines!
There you go! Nice catch man! I'm glad you ran into that guy who convinced you to stay. I was raised surf fishing in Monterey and have run into a wide range of personalities fishing there. Meeting other fisherman who like to share the experience / beach is what makes this.
Amen brother devine appointment for sure!
It was awesome seeing the footage of your first surf striper!🎣 You and I both know what it’s like to have days on the water that don’t go as planned. But when you caught that fish I bet it made it that much better. Great video bro.
Can’t wait till you get back! I’m planning on Oceano in a little bit
Always get excited to watch your vlogs, still trying to get out there and catch some fish myself 😩. Happy for your catch and hope Veronica is feeling better 👍🏼
Awww thank you! that means a lot to me and i appreciate you let me know. It's definitely encouraging to know people are as excited as I am about the sport and the storied I can share
Please drop a "like" if you're inspired by this video. I tried making this video highlight that it take work sometimes to get the fish you're targeting and to show it's not always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes you gotta stick it through and you may just get luck on your side.
awesome man happy for you. I'm yet to be lucky to get a striper from the surf. Oh by the way didn't forget about your 57 shirt...
So appreciate your videos.
Sorry your wife got sick, that’s sucks.
Great job catching the stripper. I miss being out there fishing. Very inspired.
Stay safe. God bless
Thank you so much for the encouragement. So glad you’re enjoying our content. 🙌 we’re premiering one tomorrow at lunchtime
That seems like a pretty good day man nothing beats that fight of a striped bass in the surf
Seriously such a good feeling on light line! The take and the fight were amazing!
Now you are up in my neck of the woods! (Coast) First priority was checking up on your lady which was smart of you, especially since all of this was on video. ;-) Good job on hanging in there and getting your first salt water striper. I caught a limit my first trip out about an hour North of where you fished in Santa Cruz County about 6yrs ago. I fished old school with a 12’ heavy rod and threw a Miki Jig. I could see bout 40-50 fisherman as I walked toward the waves and it looked like all were throwing pencil poppers or SP minnows and I did not see anyone land a fish. I figured nothing on the top so I would go deep. I caught my limit in less than 10 casts, 11.5 and 8 lbs. Everyone came over and asked what lure I used and not a single person that asked me had one. That Miki jig was the “go-to” striper lure 20 yrs ago.
Tight lines
That's right. We're cut from the same cloth my friend. I felt terrible for Veronica. She got super sick. I had to balance out in my mind to keep fishing or check on her. once I did, I realized she was sleeping it off and it was a 3 hour trip anyway so I wanted to make the most of it. I wouldn't change a thing with this trip even if it was tough. I have a micky jig now too. 1 oz. good call realizing they weren't on the surface.
I love that marathon guardian. I’ve had one for a few years now and the thing is a beast.
Marathon guardian is bang for the buck for sure! Super durable for the $30 price point
sweet video and congrats on the Striper i love catching Striped bass as the inshore bite fires up.
Thank you so much for the comment. Inshore is such a fun way to get them. These fish sure know how to use the waves to their advantage!
Your perseverance paid off. That’s a nice fish. Looked like a blast on that light gear. Great vid!!
PNW FISHING TV LOL, that was crazy. I was literally at the edge of quitting. Actually, I take that back. I did quit. But that guardian angel from heaven was fishing that day and told me there was a school of Stryper within reach. I couldn’t say no to a few casts. I appreciate you watching
Hey no problem.
I love when fisherman are cool like that.
Nice catch. Always a great feeling when u catch the target species
Thank you so much! That’s right. It is not only satisfying in fishing but it’s truly satisfying in life to put out an intention and actually make it become existence. I’m glad somebody else recognizes that. I really appreciate you pointing that out
Nice fish. I know that area. You should see some of the stripers north of you. All along there from Monterey to SF have some amazing waters and stealhead creeks when the season is on. Great job.
Thank you! Yes, it was a great experience and the area is nice. I can only imagine it when the weather and surf is actually cooperating! I'll be back a few more times before summer when I hear it really gets going!
Awesome video. Congrats on your first Striper. Keep on hooking those fish.
I appreciate that! It was a grind and I'm definitely thankful for that guy who inspired me to keep going. I hope to be that guy to someone else one day. :)
Siiick!! Motivating video brah!
joshua biggerstaff right! It got really depressing in the middle. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you found it motivating! Hopefully we can pay it forward when we see another angler struggling out there
That was awesome bro! Definitely worth the 3 hour drive. Keep slaying!
Jig Jig Pow! Thank you brother! I really admire your work
nice video! just found you guys. Stripers are such a blast, we'll be after them soon here in Delaware too!
Thanks! I'm glad you found this video fun to watch. Striper are so awesome. definitely one of my all time favorite fish! Good luck in Delaware. I'm sure they get big out there!
glad you didn't give up! nice catches brotha!
Technically, I did give up... 🤷🏻♂️ hahah thank god for that guy who told me to make more casts!
Nice. Can't wait to try this.
PK Yi You have my number! When life slows down a little bit, let us plan a trip and we will hunt striped bass together
Congrats, nice fish!
Great Job dude
Nice video 👍 it’s hard not to leave sometimes...when you get a bite there’s hope!!
Breaktime Activities thank you brotha! Yea. If no one was catching it would’ve been a different story but this time around it was on for the people using bait. That set up the challenge. The perch was a bonus
Nice catch hopefully you go and get some more
Angel Rojas I definitely will! Planning on going back on Easter sunday
Enjoyed this!
Thank you so much! It was a rollercoaster of a day for sure
Congrats 🎊 nice bass
+Jowzin Pesca thanks Jowzin! I’ve see you in my friends comments as well! Welcome to my channel! Hope you enjoy the content!
Im looking forward to catching my first striper one day! Awesome video man, keep up the amazing footage.
HunterStayLifted hunter Tullis?
@@Hook2Cook yeah man
HunterStayLifted fun fact: Tullis means Sharp in filipino
@@Hook2Cook Wow thats pretty neat, that is a fun fact!
that marina beach nice job
One thing to think about when fishing for striper in the early spring season is that their metabolism is very slow. the large schools of anchovies have not entered shallow water yet and they are left to feed on small smelt and sand crabs which do not provide them with the same energy as the fatty anchovies or sardines. This makes them far less aggressive and less likely to attack the large SP minnow or other large, fast-moving lures. During these months I almost exclusively catch them on soft shelled sandcrabs, a slow-moving LC, or a small Kastmaster that are slow-moving and take the stripers less effort to chase down and attack
That's a very good point. Small kastmasters with a small feathered treble would probably be the ticket! thank you for that insight Everet. What sized kastmaster would you say? 1/2 oz?
@@Hook2Cook as small as you can get away with in the conditions. I use a 1/4 oz if the water is calm enough.
yea, makes. sense. I was moving that LC very slow and I only got one tap out of that SP minnow. I have a friend who gets them on a 1 oz plug, but he walks distances and a good day for him seems to be 3 bites! Cant wait for warmer weather and anchovies coming in shallow!
Well its good news their there, I'm in santa Cruz (just north of Monterey) but they haven't hit yet
I need to go back asap! I’m hooked on that bite
Awesome!!!
Fishing Freshies thanks!
Congratulations on the beast. I cant wait to hook up on one too. Im planning on a day trip up there soon.
I really appreciate that. The season is just getting started. July August is when they come into our territory!
@@Hook2Cook I'm hitting Oceano/ Grover beach Wednesday morning.
Is striper fishing Monterey Bay in March any good? I see it's raining in your video. What time of year is this?
How do you cast the lure in windy conditions?
stocked on the stripper on light set up lots of fun !!!!!!!!!
Seriously! my heart was pounding the whole fight!
Nice bucket list catch! What did Veronica eat? No recommendation for where ever you had lunch ?
Brian N for real! It was hulas bar and grill. Their fish probably wasn’t handled or cooked properly. My food was good. I had pork tacos
Nice catch!! Hey so, I bought 3 different types of medical tape but they all came off when wet. I got this one for my braid surf casting finger on Amazon ( Leukotape P Corrective Taping, 1.5 x 15 Yards ) Its like a 2nd skin and wont come off until you peel it off. Good Stuff!
D Navarrette great tip bro! I’ll check it out! I bought that tape on the way to Monterey because I forgot my finger glove. I have this one amzn.to/2XhE99m
nice video bro & nice fish
Thanks brother! and I didn't need to stay away from poachers either ;)
Hook2Cook that’s always a good thing lol
Great Video, thanks for sharing. I hear Striped Bass are rare in Socal, is that true?
Joe Cuneo that’s true. Water seems warmer than they like and a lot more reservoirs with striper get flushed into the water every year
Joebaggs Swarters were the go to plug in Monterey this year for many of the locals, what I learned about fishing Monterey the last 50 years ... keep moving never park yourself more than 1/2 hr on a spot, pssst ..... a nice hole within a long walk from where you were fishing produced and lot of fish the season, it was a night bite, one night it was a total sling fest and of course I missed it.
yea we were there yesterday. stay tuned for that video. They didnt want the swarter yesterday. every striper (5) was caught on the LC 110. Do you know Glenn SAles?
@@Hook2Cook I know who he is never met him I'm sure he and I fished next to one another at night, he has that area dialed in always putting fish on the beach ... I to make a long drive 1 hr 20 min each way to fish Monterey, a bunch of those new car dealerships in MB are accounts of mine so I always bring my gear when I call on customers.
That’s super cool you have that luxury with your job! Yea Glenn is a great dude. We spoke before this last tournament about strategy and it helped a lot
what kind lure you used? Thanks
Which Shimano rod where you using? I'm looking for something to cast SP minnow and LC for longer distance.
Dennis Chan what’s up bro! It’s the shimano convergence. 8’ 6” medium action
Where in monterey is this beach at ??
Hi I'm going to Monterey fishing where is that spot
Let's go! The stripers are here!
Bro! thanks for watching! Let's connect and get some fishing vids on your channel! haha jk
@@Hook2Cook My channel is FishingWithKen. Check 'em out! :0)
Cool striper. I remember back in the 80s and early 90s we could catch 20lbs stripers everyday. Nowadays you only see these 24 inch stripers. I haven't seen a 20lbs striper years. I guess all the big stripers stay in the Sacramento river system and in the channels.
It seems cyclical. You’re probably right some big ones stay in the fresh water but it does seem like the numbers are increasing based on the rainfall we’ve had flushing them into salt water. If we continuously get years of good rain, we’ll see a lot more big ones in numbers.
@@Hook2Cook l have talked to guys from the Sacramento area on the San Francisco party boats. They said they fish the Sacramento river system and the catch bigger stripers in the Sacramento river. I remember back in the 80s we could fill up 2 100 quart coolers full of 15 pound striper and up on the party boat fishing Rock pile and south tower. Even mels reef had big stripers. Nowadays on the party boat a 10 pound striper is big. I don't think it will ever be like the 80s and we had big stripers in the 15lbs range and up.
Hi. Saw you at True North Angler live. New sub. 👊
thank you! cool to see him progress!
Hook2Cook yea, he works hard on it.
Is been about a year man... when you guys coming back? You need to go to the Washing Machine in Marina... Striped bass with with soft shell sand crabs is great too
Yea! It’s been a while for sure! Stoked to make the first trip soon. Thanks for the heads up and taking the time to comment!
That's how I feel when I'm catching stripers too! It's such a cool feeling!
AkinToMeatloaf it’s pretty indescribable! You’re in the Monterey area?
@@Hook2Cook Yeah, I live in Salinas but fish the MBay fairly regularly. I fly fish and if it's too rough I'll use spinning gear.
Fly fishing from the surf sounds like a whole different game! I’ve fly fished in ponds and in rivers in Montana but surf would be a whole lot different. Kudos to you sir!
@@Hook2Cook Haha it definitely is exciting!
I'll be hitting WY and ID this summer for trout on the fly rod. Can't wait!
@@akintomeatloaf Oh wow! lucky! Idaho is georgeus too! Im so jealous
Wow
What part of monterey beach is this? and from what period of the year does striper run thru there?
Can’t give specifics but the fish run through from spring to fall
where was this?
Subbed
What weight Pline Floroclear do you use for your leader line?
25-30#
Marina state beach 831 salad bowl! Kill the perch and stripers with that lure fish it slow! Salas in the house!
Oh yea! Our latest videos have been perch slaying sessions. Big limits.
if you want a better fight, while on the wifey..........tell her it feels just like her sister. lol
couldn't resist. but awesome video. I live in Humboldt county and Stripers are so damn rare but its my bucket list to catch one up here.
Living in Monterey now and I was wondering if you could share the link for Cali Surf Caster. I am unable to locate him on CZcams. Thanks Ed.
Hey pj! He doesn’t have a channel.
@@Hook2Cook Thanks for the quick reply Ed. One of the reasons I Subscribe to your channel. My best to you and yours. Tight lines!
Thanks brother! You’re in such a good area! Striper and salmon! Go get em!
What beach was that?
👍
Looks like marina state beach
What time of year would there be striped bass in Monterey Bay? How close to shore? What bait / lures?😊
And is there a minimum size on the stripers there?
They're there all year long. the hot season is spring to beginning of summer. 110 jerkbaits like the calissa are good or bait fishing with sandcrabs. they must be 18" to keep.
What size lucky craft did you use ?
This was the minnow 110
Nice fish bro! Soon i hope to head up there
Im going back april 21!

I just find it bonkers that a fish from the North East (Atlantic) is now thriving in the pacific
Seriously, I would really love to know the history of the migration patterns that brought fish to where they currently live. Recently, someone caught an angel fish down south. Those fish are usually found in the Indian Ocean. I’m sure each individual fish has traits that allow them to migrate further and further. It’s really funny because these ideas turn us into amateur Marine biologists.
Where are you fishing bro
This was in Monterey
What line are you using?
This was Jbraid 8 strand 30#
Nice striper! Just a heads up, don’t measure the fish with your hands that close to the treble hooks still in the fish, I did the same last time and the fish started flopping and I ended up with the treble hooks stuck in the hand
Tran Toan ouch! Thanks for taking one for the team and spreading the word! I’ll keep that in mind! ER visit or on the field yank to get it out?
Hook2Cook field yank, luckily had a buddy next to me to quickly help out, it happens fast, fish continues to flop so your hand/arm goes for the ride with it until you pin it down
Tran Toan lol wow! That’s funny to talk about it now but I’m sure in the moment it was TERRIFYING! haha good thing you had a buddy. I’ll spread the word on my bad practice. I usually have my lip grippers with me so next time I’ll be sure to control the head with it.
Damn dude what beach is this? I’ve lived in Monterey my whole life and never caught anything from the surf
Pretty much any beach in that area during spring into summer
@@Hook2Cook Awesome dude thanks for letting me know, hope I run into you at some point if you come back!
I'm going to stop by your place of business and hit you up for a beach fishing trip. I live in Lompoc.
Terry Schrecongost definitely it’s always cool to meet local fishermen
Hey man good video...anytime your in Monterey area hit me up I'm down to fish
That’s dope bro! Shoot me a text. 805-930-5366 - Edward Tomilloso also find me on Instagram hook2cook805
not using a weight?
No, just the right action and length rod and line
What is the name of this beach kuya ? Salamat ...
I can’t give that. Just the general location of monterey
@@Hook2Cookis it illegal to give the location away? What’s the point of making the video
Congrats on your first stripper! Poor Veronica...😢😢😢
CurtMiz thank you! Thank God she’s back to normal and it was only a 1 day bug
She’s sick
Still fishes🤣😂
I think it’s wild how people make videos of them fishing all the way from when they wake up to the end of the video but don’t show what spot they are fishing like everyone is going to stop you from catching fish. 👎
This video stinks, jk. I like how you cast your rod.
Hahah thanks? it was a pivotal episode for sure. shows when you grind it out, good things can happen
