I was watching the last live while working on the Computer and just ended up here. The way how you talk about the music festivals is SO sympatthetic Joseph. i mean, i admit i had been to many many good festivals, but i was also more oriented towards guitars (wave, punk, rock'n'roll, etc.) and smaller venues. So i am sorry you had this experience. BUT, what i actually wanted to say is, that for someone, who sometimes gets called out for whining or moaning (not intented though, just being honest), just the way how you describe it feels so relatable.
NOT saying you are whining, i guess you understand what i mean

Joseph, I understand this feeling so well! I am a bit older than you, and festivals these days are just rough. Your description sounds like any number of rock festivals I have been to, and I can't anymore. Also, I am just 5'1", so I have been pushed and shoved a bunch. Not a bunch of fun.
I have worked and gone to many festivals of different genres, also have gone to around 2000 live shows in my lifetime, mostly for work. I love hip hop and r&b from the early 2000s but watching artists like that live is a whole other story. Like Joseph said, they do the bare minimum up there. It’s like glorified karaoke. Especially at festivals. I hate when a fave song of mine comes up and they just play the 45 seconds before switching to the next song. Now I only enjoy artists that come with a full band. I wanna see the drummer and the bassist, I want to hear a live version. I want to hear how your voice sounds after all these years. But all of that costs more
money. The artist would have to share their profits with the band. Production would cost more. So they opt out of it. They give us the most basic act ever because most of us will take what we can get. Especially if we don’t branch out to other type of shows and all we know is one genre or one specific style of performance. So while I love my early 2000s hip hop and r&b, I’m gonna keep it in my Apple Music library and jam to it whenever I want for 10 bucks a month 😂. I don’t need to spend hundreds to be disappointed. Also everything is way overpriced. Having said all that, I see so many similarities between Joseph and I as far as frugality. But I am so so happy you got to experience it and have a good time. And I hope you go to other festivals with maybe a little more variety and see that there are differences in how they do it and how the crowd reacts. It’s really eye opening. I’m only 20 mins in so I’m going to finish the rest but just wanted to drop in my two cents lol. Nick and Joseph I ❤ you. And I’m so happy to see the cat cameo.

I've always loved (more so during the Pandemic!😉) soundtrack(s) like "Happy Together (The Turtles!) The chorus: "So happy together, how is the weather" is uplifting. So, your Podcast #107 was a delight, one about the music had me thinking, may be choosing movies that have popular songs as soundtrack, for next movies poll? Would never go to festivals here, they are not disability friendly to begin with, some people beside me got married, 200,000 dollars and they had to move in with family to pay the marriage loan, they separated 6 months later, absolutely crazy, we have great dental insurance here so I go twice yearly as it’s 30 dollars for both sessions, 15 dollars each time,
Usher having herpes is something I didn’t know. But I’m literally not surprised in the least.

But I have been to so many rock and alternative music festivals and I have loved it and had a blast and felt safe but every rap festival I have been to was just like your experience. The music isn’t loud enough and when it is you can’t hear anything. It’s not even live. Not to discriminate because I love all kinds of music and artists but if you ever want to check out good live shows you have to give a rock or alternative festival or concert a chance 😊I attended Lollapalooza many years ago and it was the best mix of all genres and it was actually very satisfying and a great experience. Everything from Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day to A Tribe Called Quest and the Beastie Boys. I think you just caught the wrong festival lol. Your podcasts and reviews are always enjoyable 💖
