I saw this movie back in 1982 in a sold out theatre and the entire sequence where Cooper attempts to defibrillate Norris had people in the audience screaming, and I mean screams that sounded like someone was being killed live in our theatre. Almost everyone was freaking out for like 5 minutes, what a great experience. 😂
And one more thing, I saw this in Time Square 42nd st in 1982. Not Disneyland 42nd st but the 42nd st from Taxi Driver and HBO The Deuce. I'm talking about you don't order any food especially popcorn 42nd st. Many times going to one of these cinemas was a thing of nightmares yet this week they had nothing on John Carpenter.
I've seen The Thing several times and I never noticed until a reactor pointed it out, why the heck is he putting the paddles on the dude's stomach? 😂
Omg that sounds awesome! I had a similar experience at a free premier viewing of The Ring (US adaptation of Ringu). Grown men were screaming at “tv scene” with Samara. It was hilarious and terrifying😂
“Buying $19 smoothies and getting in a busted Corolla” 🤣🤣🤣 You guys always give me a good laugh.
“My computer today is not that helpful” lol right!?
“Did you just buy this book? Are you sure? It looks new.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Joseph is cray and I love it! Clip that book investigation and make it a short. Starts at 18:28 lol.
Several reasons this movie didn’t do so well was because many top critics bashed it, giving it one star. Also it came out two week after E.T. which was a monster at the box office. The Thing is definitely an example of a film that has aged like fine wine because I think it’s in many top critics top 10 horror, sci-fi movies of all time.
Amen Nick! The Thing and Blade Runner,,,, we are stuck in an era of remakes and comic book films... =(
You guys must review SWARM would love to see you guys review this
I saw The Thing at the movies when I was about 11 years old with my mother and my 2 year old sister. I remember running and dragging my sister by the hand trying to catch the bus before it pulled away lol. I was amazed at the special effects and how horrific it was. Still one of my favorites. The blood test scene was incredible and the cast was great.
I didn’t realize that this movie wasn’t well received when it came out. I love it! And the score! It’s remains one of my faves, and I like to watch it every year around Christmas. (My dad and I used to watch it at Christmas when I was young. )
Joseph thank you for mentioning “Gang Related” in your podcast ~ my boyfriend and I watched it last night and were howling! Unbelievable. 😆
I saw both this and Alien at the theater I worked at in high school. Loved them both. they both had great leads, but I felt like The Thing had a crew I would like to hang out with. It is the one that I rewatch most regularly. You are both really great with this, both individually and together. Thanks for what you do.
One of my favorite horror movies of all time. Keep up the good work guys👍🏽
Poor Nick. The orange chicken comment. 😂
One of my most favorite movies ever !!! Obsessed since I was 8, when my uncle introduced this to me. In fact I literally just rented from prime , watching it now! Thanks to you both 😉
I find one of the more chilling moments of this movie to be when they run the simulation and realize that The Thing will kill everyone in the world, despite it not being violent / featuring the creature
Omg. You two are hilarious. The food tangent.....
Listened to The Godfather podcast - so fun to hear J describe a movie I’ve seen 100+ times was amazing. Hearing the wonder of it all.
And yes the cannoli line was improvised - so much out there now all these years later. And Luca Brasi flubbing the line was real. He was actually a professional wrestler and they told him it was a dry run but Coppola left it in.
And the horse head was a real one from a local glue factory….
You guys are the best ❤
I thought the chest scene was awesome. The creature was being irritated by the shocks from the defibrillator, so it bit off his hands.
The guy building the ship WAS infected. He was building the ship to get to civilization, and he killed the two guys setting up the explosives, at the end.
It’s a shame that two of the best 80s remakes flopped, this movie and 1988’s The Blob. At least The Fly was successful in 1986.
Happy that you noted the scares around that Husky! For what I had initially thought was the most frightening scene I had seen, for Horror genre, in "Salem's Lot" - the rocking chair in the attic? - when I was a teen, I 'enjoyed' the *The Thing!* I hold the whole walk the Husky to the kennel, and the aftermath chaos, as a creative scare high point in horror/sci-fi! This was a good story-telling comment spoil!
Visually stunning or captivating, I am going with "Bram Stoker's Dracula" with Gary Oldman. On the topic of disturbing films, I made it through "Serbian Film", even "Melancholie der Engel", but "Martyrs" (French version) sent me on a tailspin that has lasted for 14 years. Warning: Do not watch without a therapy appt. scheduled for the next day!
In Chinese this movie is called Tū Biàn Dì Sān Xíng (突變第三型)which basically means "Mutated to the Third Form"
I saw this at 14 in the theater. I saw it again a few years ago at Alamo Drafthouse, when they screened the 4K restoration. It was still powerful and the newbies in the theater still freaked out!
Such a stressful movie to watch!
Great review ❤️❤️
Wilford Brimley's character was definitely infected. Near the end, we see him push his hand into Donald Moffat's mouth and basically pulls the skin off his face. It's not clear exactly when his character became infected, though.
Sucks that it wasn't a hit upon release, but at least that contributed to it not getting any terrible sequels...at the time.
I just love this channel and have been binging since discovered. 😊
There’s a game called the thing based on this movie where you are all one of the characters and you have to guess who is the imitator. We play all the time so much fun
That game is great. So was the Warriors
Aaah, Lance reddick, I wasn't expecting that spoiler 😳 it came out of nowhere
Have you guys reviewed 'The Lighthouse'... your take on that film would be FANTASTIC
And There Were None was also inspired by the novel / movie “The Ninth Guest”
The bread segment had me
One of my favorite syfy movies and you guys did a great job reviewing it. Loved the orange chicken dialogue between you two! Please keep making live reviews, they're very entertaining. :D
This is in my top ten horror movies of all time.
Thanks for reviewing this!
One of my fav films. And I love the Agatha Christie shout out. And then there were none is one of my fav books. The original title not so much 😂
'The Thing' was a Drive-in experience for me...where all good horror seemed to be scarier lol...as for SW's sense of humour...have you seen her guest appearances on Doc Martin? Clearly a fan of the show.
This is my childhood favorite movie and we love you 2 from Richmond Virginia
@FishJellyFilmReviews Please! Consider a live show to review all of SWARM in one longer show. I'm learning of it, it sounds like fascinating layers. Thank you ❤
3000 Mile to Graceland (2001) Kurt Russell plays Elvis impersonator with Kevin Costner.
Amazing content. If your mind can conceive it and believe it, you can achieve it. This is great!

Don’t let your beautiful cats get around lilies which are poison(you probably know this)
I didn’t know that.
If you put a dash of vinegar and a pinch of sugar in the vase of water, the flowers will last and it won't go sludgey. Carnations last a long time and they are cat friendly. Peace ✌
Oh. Are you guys from MN?
Yes
