WTF Built: Lash Up Linear Amp 3CPX1500A7

Inspired by those crazy US CB guys with their high powered amps I have a go at knocking together something similar on the desk top....The WTF Built lash-up desktop kilowatt!!!

I like the use of the old components such as switches and lamps and getting the results as well. The most important thing is that this is what I think RA should be about. I used to refer to the other type as cheque book enthusiasts which goes for many hobbies and interests these days. I am now the crazy uncle that we all wish we had when we were children growing up. The sort of people that cut their own furrow! Thanks for posting and inspiring!

Thats a Widow-maker of an amp! Good job. I would add an oscilloscope with a pad to monitor the signal. Also, would like an explanation of your 2.8kV HT supply, thats a project in itself. Keep up the WTF Builds. 🤓

Excellent. I would be interested to know how you calculated the values of capacitors and inductors etc needed. Have you looked at how "clean" or otherwise the output is? I would love to build something similar, HF multiband. Had been considering a 4CX 1500 or USSR equivalent. I like the idea of low drive, full UK output. GI0UTE

Seems that some people in CB in the US, use tens of kW's from their amplifiers! 😮 Desktop kill-a-lot linear amplifier! 😂

Alot smaller than I imagined for resonance on 80 about 160 pF for C1 , 10 uH inductance and about 1000 pf for C2

30 watt's 1kw out seems to be very good and I have seen those CB amps and wondered if they are legal? because in the states they have different classes of amateur operators like here in the UK the higher the grade the more power they can use.
