  • Today, April 9th, @FOXFACTORY launched their new 2024 lineup of backwards-compatible, next generation Grip dampers. There’s three new dampers in this lineup, from the Gravity-focused Grip X2 to the Cross Country-spec Grip SL. So far we’ve only put time on the middle child - the new Fox Grip X damper - which is designed for the broad spectrum of All Mountain bikes. Read on to learn about the new dampers, and how the Fox 36 with Grip X damper has performed so far.

I predict that all reviews will be glowing, like when any new fork from fox or RS is released. Then 6 months later forums will be full of people complaining about harsh damping once again. It's pretty funny.

That's the media cycle, people who bought Kia's and Hyundai didn't realize journalists didn't have to live with the cars and pay for maintenance...
Bikes are about the same, a personal example is assuming big brands like Giant will provide timely warranty fixes, in many bike comparative tests they mention that as if new riders would magically benefit from a good local dealer who doesn't want to screw them and has competent techs.
Same bs as in the automotive industry, moral of the story journalists provide a product review, not ownership experience. There's Reddit for that 😂

Very true! Sadly our job is more to cover news and also offer the most honest impressions and thoughts on products while also offering our best insight to how they’ll do for various riders and users. But, we simply can’t keep all these products for 1,2,3 years and put the same miles on them that an owner does who’s only bike(product) is the one in question. We do our best to give the truth, but long term owner experiences can and usually will vary greatly.

Reminds me of the optics of my first suspension fork, the RockShox Mag 21. Yes, I'm old. 😂

Me too, although the one on my bike was painted from factory in the frame color (Klein Attitude in gator colourway).

My first suspension fork was a used Marzocchi 500 worth my mom's weekly salary and I sold the cro mo fork on my Avalanche for a whole 40$, inflation apart things don't change that much...

If they kept the "wide adjustment range", there is no adjustment range, the current GRIP 2 vvc with completely closed HSC and LSC has the same compression damping as my Mezzer with shims removed, which works optimally, I weigh 55kg...

So could the grip X be dropped into a Marzocchi (if desired)? Building an MTB for the first time in like 10 years. I’ll probably be fine with the stock Z1, just curious…

  • @bthomas518

Already reading that the Grip X makes a loud sucking noise after half-stroke from one tester, and another tester said it's quieter than Grip2, any opinion on that? Both said Grip X2 was totally silent.

The trail x damper is a step backwards, nobody flips levers anymore. Trail riding or enduro, if you set your fork up correctly, you don’t need to change it

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  Před měsícem +2

It’s lighter than Grip 2 and more adjustable and better performing than Fit 4, so we’d say it’s likely better for trail riders regardless.
Can go for Grip X2 if you don’t think the climb platform is beneficial for your riding.

unlikely. but marketing dept. found some new words to attach to a very similar fork, or more likely they found a way to reduce cost and number of parts and market it is as a revolution.

@@TheLoamWolf I can't agree I compared a 2014 pike on my old bike to factored fox and the damper performance at speed was so poor had to have it custom set up

    • @TheLoamWolf

That's the beauty of options! Another rider may dislike that Pike and the Fox but love their DVO or SR Suntour product. We all ride in different areas and with different preferences for feel! Luckily there's more than just 1 brand making suspension products for us all.

Don't care for the color theme but it's fun to see something different forks are boring af to look at all the same 3 colors, almost all my forks get painted lowers at the first service... Only my 2016 boxxer rc is still unpainted, stickers removed of course because these decals are hateful, idk what sram was thinking with that font...😂
