The new Saucony Peregrine 11 is the best Peregrine yet. It's low, responsive and pretty protective for such a small package. The full rubber outsole provides plenty of grip when the going gets tough and the new upper (the biggest notable change in this version) is a welcome touch. What are YOUR thoughts on the new Peregrine?

The new Saucony Peregrine 11 is solid trail offering for those looking for a low, responsive and protective trail ride. Plenty of grip and a new upper make this possibly the best Peregrine yet. But, is it enough to make the shoe stand out in a sea of trail offerings? What do YOU think about the Peregrine series? While I've tested many of them, this is one of the few video reviews I've done and frankly, it's long overdue!
legendary video review top camera as ever - btw love your BBC America work too really funny
I just purchased the blue/grey ones and I’m loving them... I normally run in stability shoes on the road... very stable on single track and great responsive protection for single track running.
Sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid forgot my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Jamal Jude Instablaster =)
@James Terrance thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I’ve been running in the Endorphin Speed for several months now and the prospect of an Endorphin trail shoe makes me giddy with excitement! Please Saucony, please!!!!!!!
Yo I forgot how amazing the production value is with your videos...absolutely beautiful to watch! :)
I have the 10 and like them a lot. Looking forward to the 11. Love the colorway.
Hello Ethan! I really like the fact that you brought specific comparisons to comparable models from other brands in this video... which is something I think you could do more often. I know you always do a great job comparing a new model to its predecessor, but for me it is equally important to know how the new model stacks up vs competitors. I bought 2 pairs of Sense Pro 4 on sale at Black Friday so I was happy to hear that I have the « scalpel » shoe of the bunch!
I ran a 55k mountain race in the Peregrine 11. Traction was great. Toe protection worked well. But...during the river crossings, the insoles fell apart.
The bright colors are energizing
hello Mr Ginger hope your all well, great video as always! Can't wait to be able to travel again to do some proper trails again!
love the peregrine, when I hear narrow, I get excited. I have a narrow, low volume foot and this shoe works for me.
Loving the return of reviews!! Keep them coming. I love all your content but I’m a shoe dork and I’ve always appreciated your POV and your honesty on various shoes.
I have 2 pairs of the 10 GTX that I run during the colder months and in snow. The gortex helps keep the feet warm. They seem to hold up very well so far close to 200 miles on them. I have a pair of the 11's but have not run in them yet. I agree on that color scheme. I opted for the "gravel/black" version.
i'm attracted to that colourway ! love bright & fun colours hence I can't wait for the asics noosa tri 13 to be out 😁
Peregrine 10 wass the first of 6 brands of trail shoes that I've liked enough to purchase it's follow up. Wore my 11s straight from the shop to the trail. Love em.
Just bought the peregrine 10s, cant wait for the snow to melt so I can hit the trails!
Intro tune is so dang good!!
That's an interesting take on the fit/width. I run in 2E wide shoes (Brooks Adrenline, Sacony Ride), but I find the Peregrine to fit my foot really well. Thanks for the review!
Can’t wait for the kinvara 12 review!
Good review! Was really wondering if I should get the 11’s.
I sized up 2 sizes, don't know how that is working but it does. Those are hiking beasts! Enough cushion for hiking, great grip, good protection and no hot spots so far.
Great Review. I wonder how the peregrine compares to the Endorphin Speed, similar in looks but cheaper (and appreciate its a trail show).
THANK YOU!!! I have been asking for a review if the peregrines!! I’ve been running in peregrines for the last 3 years and LOVE them. The new treads shed mud better than my old version, while maintaining incredible traction and grip! I ordered my latest version in wide width and have lived them!
Ethan, thanks for the great review. Keeping it real as always. I’m currently running in the Peregrine ISO, picked them up last summer and overall I don’t have any real complaints. I guess the only thing that I wished were improved is the width of the toe box. I have flat/wide feet and a little more room would be a game changer for me. Any recommendations for trail shoes that could accommodate my size 15 flat/feet?
Yes, Yes!!! make an endorphin trail shoe please! EPB (if you can make it hold up out on the trails) would be perfect...light, great rebound, and can make with great cushion without making it heavy. The nylon/carbon plate could double as a rock plate. Been running in the Endorphine Speed for about 5 months and really loving it. Not sure what the speedroll would feel like out on the trail, and I've tended to prefer 4mm drop on the trail vs the 8mm in the Endorphine. I've contemplated buying a second pair of endorphine speeds in black just to see what they would do on the trail. I think without some additional lug protection the exposed EPB may get chewed up by the rocks and roots though.
I ended up choosing the Torrent 2 over the Peregrine 10/11. I don’t love marshmallow cushion but I can’t run on a really rigid shoe either. Went for the Goldilocks shoe.
I stopped looking at trail shoes when I finally got a pair a speedgoat EVO’s. I plan on buying a dozen more and cryogenically freezing them in secure storage so I will never run out of them.
That is a GREAT shoe.
Thanks for the review. I struggle to find wide trail shoes so will keep looking
Try Saucony Mad River 2. Similar but wider toe box
There are certainly some things I would change about the fit of the Peregrine 11, but I don't think it can be understated just how good the Saucony rubber is. It is more durable than Megagrip and just as sticky. I have about 125 miles on a pair of these, 50 of which I did at Frozen Head in a combination of snow, ice, and mud. The soles of these shoes were amazing for that.
Seriously love the muddy intro. Gritty perfection!
If I had filmed it one day earlier, it would've showcased the mess left from the snowpocalypse!
Peregrine 7 was my first trail shoe, and I loved it. That said I’m now over 45 and the midsole in the 10 beats me to death. You mentioned the Catamounts, but I find their midsole so much better than Peregrines. Of course they suck in mud/wet (Brooks give me Catamounts with Peregrine traction?). Looking forward to the future Speed Trails and hoping the new Speedgoat is more like the EVO or 3, instead of 4.
I ran in the Peregrine 10, even ran en 100 miler in it.
I think your comments on it being a responsive, grippy good-at-all-excels-at-none description is pretty good. The Peregrine 10 was a tad heavy for what it offers for my taste. I eventually found it didn't quite grab my heel as I wanted it too, leading to blistering. Not ideal when running ultras. I've ended up using my Peregrine 10's for nearly weather and muddy conditions, as they perform a hell of a lot better than my Speedgoats in those conditions.
For me the Peregrine 10 got nearly everything right. If only it could drop maybe 30 grams somewhere and get the heel right I wouldn't look at any other shoe again. I'm not sure the 11 has solved any of those issues, which leaves me with a shoe that has the same issues as the last version. Saucony is releasing an Endorphin trail shoe later this year. It's apparently very similar in weight, outsole and stack, but it's supposed to have s vastly different midsole which makes the experience completely different.
I've been interested! I've actually never had Saucony shoes before. I've always been the guy running in Women's Narrow widths growing up, so now La Sportiva and Salomon fit really well. How's The Peregine fit compare to say the Salomon Sense 4 Pro?
Left from Hokas for good and for almost a year now I am using Peregrine 10 for fast trails and Xodus 10 for long days and ultras. I think I'll stick to them for now. I am ready to buy an extra Xodus now that we are heading back to the races
Any plans to review the Asics Gel-Trabuco 9? a HUGE improvement over the previous version and I was shocked at how nice it felt.
I've got the feeling that the Peregrine 11 is the trail version of the Kinvara 12, would you agree with me?
I have not run in the Peregrine since version 2, but those were good shoes. Sounds like it is still a good shoe.
Sounds very similar to the v.10 in which case go up half a size to solve the snug toe issue and you’re in good shape for up to 50 mile ultras (in my experience). Also, if you stick to off-road you should see 500 miles life out these too before the front welds split.
Been looking forward to this, as I had tried to find your review on the 10 before I picked them up cheap.
I've found that after around 100 miles of use that mine actually feel better (and softer) than they did to begin with. I was wondering how many miles you've done in the 11s so far?
I'd also love to see you review the Xodus 10. Super keen to hear how you think the two compare and whether that improves on some of your Peregrine dislikes. So few reviews online for the Xodus.
Yes exactly, I am with you, it becomes great shoe after 40km and excelent after 100km. Give it a time to break in an you will tell me you never had better trail shoe than this. It gets better with time unlike other shoes.
I can't keep up. I have a pair of Peregrine 10s that aren't even out of the box and in my rotation yet!
Bought the Peregrine 11 GTX for winter running and they're disappointing overall for the reasons you've given. Good traction and protection from the elements, buy really no give at all from the midsole, which becomes even harder and unforgiving in the cold. Long runs have been a pain and I've been pulling out summer shoes whenever I can instead of using the Peregrines. I even resort to putting the Peregrines on the radiator for 20 minutes to soften the foam. Like you, I've been wondering where Saucony's Endorphin trail shoes are. I'm running in Endorphin Speeds this winter whenever I can. That foam is amazing in the cold.
I am 115kg and enjoy trail running. However I roll my ankles regularly due to weak ankles. I tried the speedgoat 4s for cushioning, but due to the stack height, rolled my ankle so bad it put me out of action for 3 months. I purchased these, lower stack height, Great grip, protection from sharp stones etc (if not a bit like running on a grippy chopping board) but they do the job and I love going out in them, knowing my rolled ankle risks are minimised. Just my two cents.
Try working on your tibialis and calf muscles, really helped me with rolling my ankles, also getting better with times helps
I am not a runner shoe snob like a lot of people out there, just want a shoe that will hold up to the miles i put on them. A lot of people recommended Brooks Ghost 12 or Adrenaline.
I do 8-12 miles a day in the deep sand on the beach. The Ghost 12's i have fall apart in a short amount of time; salt, sand and surf absolutely destroy them. I have gone through three pairs like water . . . and at $130 a pair they were just getting cost prohibitive.
So I bought a pair of these Peregrine's on sale $45 at Fit2run in god awful orange/turquoise and I absolutely love them. They grip the sand and propel me like cleats for a wide receiver. The rubber exterior holds up to the surf and deep sand. So far they are more then I could have dreamed for. I just need to get a pair in a more muted color scheme.
I HIGHLY recommend them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I run in Peregrine 10s but have put alit of miles on them. I have a 56k ultra coming up over mixed terrain and fire roads. What is your suggested replacement for that distance? I'm 57 with knees to match! Lol
Pwrrun is basically a plain EVA midsole with a very thin soft tpu Pwrrun+ topsole for underfoot comfort. This is a good concept for short to medium distances but with the tpu topsole being very thin the shoe becomes very hard and uncomfortable all of a sudden on a long run. Not pleasant at all
I've had 2 pairs of older versions of these and the build quality was terrible they just seemed to fall apart around the upper. Hope these are better. Didn't have problems with narrowness before
Digging the new intros, but I miss the shelf with all the gear.
It's a solid tooL. If it fits...don't acquit Got to be a Carnival somewhere over the rainbow (looks) Solid tool like a big colorful caterpillar.
Just brought my peregrine 10s out of retirement - I was wrong and too harsh on my review. I thought they were too firm and too narrow but retesting again after 3/4 months , liking them - like em a lot.... The P 11 looks like a winner... would you say more space / stretch??
Interesting what you said about the midsole - being a little dead and firm,... and now I have got to the shape of the toe box part of the review... kind of answered my initial questions. 👍👍
Is it narrower than previous Peregrines or just normal narrow? They've been my goto for muddy days for years.
That intro footage 🔥 IDK I kind of like the “toddler look”. Kind of wish it had a big ole’ Velcro strap!
A part of me wants to see this too, haha
1980s "Lifejacket" colorway ftw?? 🤭😀
I used to love the Peregrine for their ability to navigate the thick, peanut-butter mud that our trails get plenty of. They lost me on the Peregrine 7 though after the outsole showed a lot of wear with not a lot of miles. I’d be interested to know how these hold up in the long term since they were a terrific mid-distance shoe.
Hi Kelly, I have just retired mine Peregrines ver 10 after 470 miles. Outsole still looked fresh and almost unweared, but there becoming fabric tears arround the flex point where the forefoot rubber collar ends. They were still runable but I wanted to keep them in my hall of fame as one of the best trail shoes I ever had, so did not wracked them completelly. I'm excited about trying the new ver 11. It looks pretty same except they exactly addressed the weak point and gave it actually more durable fabric that reminds me the one known from Solomon Speedcross one, unbreakable fabric by the way. I quess the new fabric on Peregrine 11 may give the shoe life another 100 miles or so.
This is one of my favorite trail shoes. I love the glove like fit, stability and traction of this model. In my opinion it’s perfect for runs under 20 miles. I’m also about to buy the Xodus from saucony for ultra distances and would love to see your review of that shoe. P.s. I also road run in the saucony ride so yeah I’m a bit of a fan boy!
Haha, I just asked for the same before seeing this! There's barely any Xodus reviews out there, and none that directly compare to the Peregrine. It's quite surprising given how popular cushioned trail runners such as the Speedgoat are, yet the Xodus gets next to no love.
Saucony is all I know
@@goodnewsrunning having tried just about every brand out there I seem to have the best luck with saucony.
@@bildotunechi yes that’s strange isn’t it? I think some other companies do a little better job of marketing but the saucony is just like an old work horse. Always standing by to get the job done. As far as comparisons between the perigrine and xodus, it’s my understanding that they are very similar with the only major difference being the stack height. But I’d love to see Ethan do a review of it!
How about the sizing? It fit you in true size or need to size up half or 1?
Loving the new everything Ethan. Thanks for being a beacon. To quote Seamus Heaney (and why not) "If we can winter this, we can summer anywhere"
I have bought like 3 versions of these and love them, my favorite shoe for rocky trails. I feel like I can walk up a rock face in them, very stable and reliable grip. However... sadly I always have the same issue with them - the lugs/outsole starts tearing apart. I always have to glue them, then another part tears off, add more glue, etc... Maybe because I'm heavier, 240, but the outsole just doesn't hold up for me.
Peregrine ISO (aka 9) was outsole that use to get cracks at the bare, uncovered sections of rockplate. But regarding the ver.10 this ha been resolved and the outsole get worned as the last part of the shoe. I'm running 1/2 rocky, 1/2 flow trails.
I found these pair well with the Xodus 11.🤘🏃♂️😎
The Xodus 11 worked better for me than the Endorphin Trail.🤷♂️🧐
I've owned the 10 for a couple of months now and they're OK for short distance races and training. They're lots of fun and I especially like the traction, but yeah, they run a bit narrow mid-forefoot. My foot is 11cm wide with socks on and I had to go all the way to US 10.5 to be able to use them (my foot is 27cm long) XD
Yeap, for wide foot, half size up, it is my case too. I used them in three of mine 100km Trail races and had no blisters or any discomfort. Just change your style of running, Peregrine with 4mm drop will ask your calves to do their work.
I like the color scheme, the tread and protection. HOWEVER, when they went with a more narrow toe-box around the Peregrine 8, they lost me as a customer. I feel if they make a change like that, they should provide more options for a wide version, not just one color. Great review! Meh, shoe.
How would you compare this to something like the Topo Ultraventure or Terradventure?
Last time I bought a Saucony trail shoe was the Saucony Kinvara TR 2. I still have no idea why they called it a Kinvara 😅
The Mad River TR2 to me feels softer lol
I'm wondering how you would compare the shoe to the Hoka Torrent?
greatfor hikes, there is a wide version too
My favorite was the Peregrine ISO and I have well over a thousand miles in three pairs. I feel like the 10 went down hill. The 11 is an improvement on the 10, but not as great as the ISO.
To me, ISO (ver 9) sole was too plushy. Peregrine 10 has better control over rocky passages and navigates easier in harsh terrain, because of the ground feel. In ISO, ver 10, the heel tends to slip out and overall lock in the shoe was more on the confy side but not the security. Ver 10, hope the same for 11, is natural racer to me.
You're in trouble when the Ginger refers to you as "childish". LOL
I think he was very politically correct there: I would've said they look downright clownish. And that comes from a guy using the pink Peregrine 10.
@@giovanbattistafichera8439 Considering some of the color options Ethan has chosen in the past, I would have thought this one suited his tastes. Guess he is getting old. LOL
Or, the comment in the review could be seen as in and of itself childish.
@@perdomot no, I think it's the combo black + bright colours, it's just a bit too much out there imho. Anyway, Saucony has been doing that for a few years now. I have a pair of Kinvara 5 to testify of the transition between regular colours and white/bright. My Kinvara 7 was orange with bright yellow laces (yuck)
@@giovanbattistafichera8439 I saw the Kinvara's Tokyo Limited Edition a couple of years ago and that was quite nice.
Ethan! Please review the endorphin trail! Unless its not worth it
opinion on the salomon sense ride 4 vs saucony peregine 11 vs the latest updated ON running cloudventure 3? which is better & why?
Hey man, im looking for a trail shoe for slow pitch softball. A lot of people wear Speedcrosses (traction) BUT for me the heel to toe drop (10mm) is way too big as I typically wear minimalist shoes, and the shoes are too narrow. I see the Peregrines are better in both aspects (wider and less drop @4mm) but have slightly worse traction. Are they my best option out there? Is there another shoe that fits the bill even better? Thanks
Was planning on either these or another pair of hoka torrent. both close matches but Hoka wins in the weight, Hoka wins
Hi. Have you had a chance to try the 12?
Not gonna lie dude. That rabbit shirt makes you look feckin' jacked man. Noice.
I think I miss everun. And I will never get power run. It's not as soft. Hopefully saucony brings everun back
Absolutely loved my peregrine iso “9”
Oooooo They look goood!!
Yeah I love the look!
I feel that you have come to condone with what Saucony has been doing with their shoes in cushion department, some of which, in particular, are not (or no longer) as cushioned . Remembering your recent reviews for latest Kinvara which you loved so much, one could expect similar 'why' rating here, but it appears that you've eventually welcomed Saucony in what they are. That said, the review and the rating appears to be more generous and "objective".
Regardless, love your reviews, enjoying all of them. I believe you should take a closer look to Ride which has evolved to the point where it's regarded as a new substitute for what Kinvara has been standing over the years.
Have great runs!
Cheers from Russia.
How does this compare to the Torrent 2?
What's the most comfortable/softest trail shoe you tested?
Have you ever tried MIZUNO?
I second your opinion that they are an ok shoe but lack life. They worked fine in snow
How are these for road running?
I made an endorphin trail out of my old speeds. Cant wait for an official one!
What did you do? Glue on a lugged outsole?
just a few 1/4" head sheet metal screws
@@RunMissouri Interesting. I was considering gluing a vibram sole onto my old kinvara. I can only find US sellers for $20. In the UK they (vibram or cobblers) fit it and it becomes too expensive
How is the weight compared to the predecessor? Same? Lighter?
Why is the upper material better than its predecessor (3:04), if you didn't have version 10? 🤔
PS: The design is not my thing either.
Cool 🤘🏼
Does anyone have experience with the peregrine 10 and salomon sense ride 3? I currently run in the peregrine 10 and love it. My longest effort in them is about 12 miles with 5000 feet of gain and at times, I'd like a little more underfoot forgiveness. I'm looking for something to replace my saucony mad river tr (version 1). I know the drop is 8mm on the sense ride and 4mm on my mad rivers, but I'm thinking the peregrines and sense ride 4 will make a great rotation. I have a salomon gift card that I have to use on their site. I'm thinking the peregrine for those quick shorter efforts and the sense ride 4 for those longer and more general training days. For reference, I live in the northeast and we have a bit of every terrain imaginable as well as mud, snow, etc. I spend a lot of time on technical terrain. I love my peregrine's.
I don’t do well in a 4 mm drop. Any suggestions for a trail shoe with an 8-10mm offset?
I never ran in them due to fit, but I heard good things about the Sense Ride 3 at 8mm. I have a love and hate relationship with the Pegasus Trail 2 at 10mm. Great midsole and ride, but slightly heavy and so-so traction (I have never tripped more in a pair of shoes running). Still they are so good I pull them out for any non techy trails when I can.
Is this shoe good for power walking?
as someone who has tried on the endorphin trail.....oh boyyyyyyy
Waterproof?
Thanks for letting me know it's narrow. Saved my feet, and why do companies keep doing narrow shoes?
Unfortunately "they don't keep doing narrow shoes" - I've got a properly narrow foot (women's AA) and Nike Wildhorse (pre-4) & La Sportiva Bushidos have been the ONLY shoes that don't slip in the heel.
There are tons more options for medium - wide feet than narrow ones!
Same here ... i can only choose the shoes with wide toeboxes or width sizes... ha ha ha I guess it narrows down the choices available quite a bit
@@beeclimbing9954 Yep similar here narrow heel, low vol but med toe width - bloody nightmare combination to find shoes to fit. In currently available models La Sportiva Helios & Bushidos have been generally ok, Scarpa Spin Ultras for long runs or when I need more protection/grip, & this winter my new Saucony Peregrine 10 GTX are working ok so far... poss worth trying Dynafit but they tend to have larger drops.
Not entirely true with narrowness of Peregrine 11/10. They are rather true to size and normal fit. I have really wide forefoot but regular wide at mid section and the half size up fits to me perfect. Peregrines lock the foot well in the mid part, so if your mid foot is wide too, there you may feel some tightness, but I don't. Keep in mind they asks for 4-5 runs to loose their initial stifness and then they are good to go for 100k race.
I heard they were coming with an endorphin line trail shoe. Love my 10's the grip is just so good. Inspires confidence in every step across every terrain.
Ethan what is that logo on hat that you wear? Some University?
It's an old logo for the Seattle Mariners (baseball), think the hat is from the "Cooperstown" collection.
@@ThatFlowState Thank you very much
the oter perigrine was better. it sizes longer because the heel is angled differently. loved the previous version
Dear Mr Ginger - please help! Did you know that even though there are 741 million people in Europe, Saucony just told me "We only have one width, which is the “M” width for the European market. “M” stands for a standard size which is a normal width here in the European Market." !!! What's ridiculous is that shoe research shows that, on average, Europeans actually have wider feet than North Americans. Your reviews are great, they help us choose what to wear, but can you use your huge power to get these products shipped to Europe? Thanks so much.
There's an Endorphin trail shoe in the pipeline.
I’m leaning challenger atr now..., peregrine is out
I have the newest Challenger ATRs and have no complaints. Comfortable and they breathe and drain a lot better than other Hoka trail shoes I’ve worn.
+1 for an Endorphin trail!
+1,000,000,000,000
Why is the "elevator music" in the background of the youtube videos lately? Is that a trend I missed. Cause my boomer ears really dislike it :D
That’s not a knife. This is a knife.
This shoe is heavy.
I saw "12.3oz" and stopped watching.
It's annoying to wait 2-3 minutes for the review
Nope it’s not! Good things come to those who wait......
