The Winx comics and their alternative canon are rarely covered, so I decided to start a series on the topic. In this first part, I am just introducing some of the general peculiarities of the comics, but we will get more and more specific as the series goes on...

NGL, Tecna as a princess definitely felt like it made sense. Stella and Bloom were fairy tale-esque princesses and Aisha was an adventurous princess while Tecna was a practical, more grounded princess.
Bloom is Cinderella
Stella is Aurora
Aisha is Jasmine
and Tecna is the Mulan...since that's how she got her Enchantix! Also she did say "let's get down to business".
This is so incredibly intresting. I had a subscription to the winx club comics right until they were discontuned and rebooted in my country, and I alsways just thought they were one off adventures with no major differences. But here princess Tecna of Titania and war veteran Diaspro are. God, war veteran Diaspro from the comics has such a different vibe from "leave the peasents to fight" Diaspro from the show.

Something that I always found annoying with the winx, and which is for example in the ice skating comic, is that they made them good at almost every activity or sport when it takes a lot of training and time to really master it. I always gave them a more mary sueish aura which isn't the best thing to do. For example, Flora: since when did she even practice ice skating? For Icy it seems a bit more natural due to her affinity with ice but Flora..? Same when you see them on horses, or even in classical dance using pointe technique. Or just creating a whole band in two hours, like lot of fans said it was normal for Musa, but not for the others. It's a shame that they didn't made them individually explore more hobbies instead of making the whole group on almost the same level.
I know what you mean: Most of the time though this happens in order to promote doll lines, live shows, tie-ins and merch: Winx on Ice, Winx in Concert, Balla con le Winx, Magical West... As someone who interacted with the show primarily through merch and tie-in content, I don't really mind this, I guess because I view it primarily as a brand, rather than a show: Kind of like Barbie. The films viewed independent of the brand might be formulaic, but as it is Barbie you understand the need for a dramatic dress change, cute animal companion, generic male protagonist, because this is also a merchandising line. For me it is just part and parcel, but I do understand that that is not how everyone interacts with the show, I guess especially in anglophone regions where there was never the "feel" and presence of Winx as a proper brand.
The in-universe reason why Flora picks up figure-skating so quickly though is that she roller-skates... In roller-skating we have a lot of the same jumps, moves, and figures as FS like Ina Bauer or Lutz jumps.

I've just read some random comics over the years (as a kid i just didn't find them very often in my country and my language) but its so interesting to see the differences between the comics and the show, it makes me wanna read all of it! (since now i do speak english and they're probably easier to find in english).
Also just wanna say, great video, 27 minutes passed by so fast (which is a good sign), it was great fun and i appreciate the effort you put into it!

And yeah, the comics are pretty readily available online in English if you want to get started! I'm still waiting for Rainbow to do proper hardback releases for all of them. Everyone now and again, they will do a re-release of the first 9, and there were even French hardback releases, but I think they only went up to issue 19...
Thank you for providing all these facts, because I never got the chance to read the commics and I was wondering which differences are significant. In general, I especially love the idea of Bloom working in magix to pay her bills and also the fact that her inteligence about earth is useful for the story. : ) Winx multiverse is expending ^^

Wait....I'm actually instantly invested in these plot lines of the Araklian War and Pirate Aisha and Princess Tecna's struggle with AI reliance. These all sound like complex and gripping plot lines that would've been so interesting to see on screen.
...and I JUST got done leaving that comment about how Fate should've taken more cues from the comics if they wanted stuff like that. I don't want to beat a dead horse but....how did they miss that badly???

What is “main character syndrome”. She IS the main character. The story was initially called “magic bloom”. I don’t get the hate with her being the main character she was intended to be. The entire story is meant to be her finding herself and saving her kingdom. It was meant to end there. Of course Nick bought it and rebooted the series over and over turning her into a Mary sue but we can all agree to pretend season 5 and onward don’t really exist right ?
I always thought the comics were meant to be mini stories between the main story. Little add ons if you will. I read them growing up.
I’m actually a big Bloom defender myself, but in the context of the comics, what I mean by “main character syndrome” is an unjustified unnecessary focus on her, especially at the expense of other characters. The comics are mini adventures with certain over-arching threads, often unrelated to show events, which is the perfect opportunity to explore other characters and character dynamics, but they do not take full advantage of this. Bloom, to a certain degree along with Stella, leads every story (unless it is specifically about another girl) even though these stories are not about her finding herself and saving her kingdom. By contrast, Aisha/Layla for example, is lucky to get any line at all if the story is not about her specifically. I do not like the effect of having 5 girls just existing and orbiting around 1; it is not good storytelling, and it is not a good use of the premise of the comics. On its own, I do really like the development of Bloom’s character across the comics, and it is one of the reasons why I will never be a Bloom-anti. But such development could happen for each of the girls within the comics, and it doesn’t, because they prioritise Bloom to an unnecessary degree and at the expense of the other girls.

I've been interested in the comics for a long time now but never got to read them and thought maybe it's not worth it after reading the 1st issue, but with your videos I might get into it. The comics seem to have the same vibe that w.i.t.c.h. comics had so I'll probably enjoy them!

The random comics I could find in second-hand fairs in my country weren't all that great plot-wise. Having to introduce and resolve problems and villains plans in just one issue is understandibly complicated. But oh my god do i love to read them! The art alone is so amazing and aesthetic! The page layout also. Idk the art just feels so magical and whimisical, which the show possibly couldn't achieve some of the times due to animation and budget limitations.

I know what you mean! The art is absolutely gorgeous, but there are definitely some very poor plotlines: for example, Temptations, which is beautiful to look at, but has really poor messaging, and ends up undermining the moral it's actually trying to get across. I think a video on the worst comics is definitely in order, but I also don't want to alienate people from them, because some of them are gems, and they are very precious to me...

oh very cool! I wonder then, if the lore stands...? Of course, there are obviously differences between the canon of the show, and the canon of the comics, but I've always wanted people to take the lore of the comics more seriously... I feel like you've just enabled me🤣🤣🤣
Loved it! As much as I adore Winx Club and will continue to do so, I feel like they could've done so much more. From world building to character development to intricate plot lines. I acknowledge it's still a "childrens cartoon" but we all know it was always more than that. I know they could've done it if they had cared a tiny bit more about those things and if Nickelodeon hadn't intervened of course. Overall the comics offer a GREAT alternative though and add/build/explain stuff that was missing/unclear in the show. I consider them as half canon I guess
Yea, as I see it, these different eras, as you call them, are separate stories from each other. The first three seasons and movie were meant to be a single, complete story. The soft-reboot Nick did rebranded and streamlined those first seasons for a new beginning and, therefore, new interpretation of a story. I can't see them as the same. They're written by different teams of people with different priorities. Same goes for the comics.

What was going on during minute 3:35 you can see the Winx in a Enchantix-Believix hybrid look at Bloom with Enchantix wings and hair but believix outfit, Musa with Enchantix hair but Believix wungs and outfit, and Stella with Believix wings, hair, and outfit but Enchantix gloves and shoes.
This comic was originally released in the enchantix era, but then re-released in the believix era, when in most panels they replaced the girls' transformation outfits. Most likely they just didn't complete it in this panel.
i once had a dream that i had ok hear me out about 20 of winx comics they were all continuation what happened after s8 i renember in the first one there was something about s8 enchantix or sirenix and there was a cover with flora enchantix but it looked diffeient i dont know what to think about this dream i am hardly trying to renember and i renember only that they werevery intresting

Its interesting that in show Tecna is not princess but in comics she is.
