I Built a Shed (in one week) and saved thousands of dollars

  • Out of laziness, I decided to have Home Depot build a shed for me, this was a big mistake. Home Depot (Tuff Shed specifically) came to my house and installed the floor base, but the walls were not square. They came back a second time, they weren't square again. I fired them, and decided to just do it the right way, by myself, and saved thousands of dollars in the process.

    I know this comment comes way late. I once had a similar issue but my framing was all wood and very heavy. Had no help and was not going to get any. I went out and bought 4 side mount swivel caster wheels with the L bracket top mounted to the wheel . So essentially it's just an L bracket affixed to the top of a caster swivel wheel. I was able to secure one in each corner of the framing and roll that bad boy where I needed it to go. It worked perfectly! I'm glad I bought them because I ended up by using them again for a similar situation. Anyway just wanted to share.
    Keep rocking it Shane! 🍻

    Merry Christmas Shane.. Nice Shed 👍
    The rafters, you want to keep some air flow in/out but seal them with expanded metal to keep rodents & birds out.

    As a roofer with the pitch of that roof and the location of your residence!! I would recommend a rubber roof in the near future just because of the snowfall and major possibilities of ice dams forming on the roof!!

      Or a metal roof.

      I believe 2:12 is a minimum pitch for asphalt shingled roof.

      Thanks , I'm obviously not a roofer and honestly just wanted to try doing shingles just to experiment/ experience the process. I was looking at those metal pieces for a roof and can easily install that over the existing roof. Or how about solar panels?

    • @markfoust8910
      @markfoust8910 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @billshipley8599 typically yes but it really depends on location snowfall and winter Temps. Even metal roofs can have the same issues in certain areas!! That's why on low slope roofs a black rubber roof is best!! The black membrane will help with a days thaw and will retain more heat into the night to help slow the refreeze preventing ice dams

      @markfoust8910 Před 8 měsíci

      @klesh you can install a rubber roof over existing shingles as well!! And rubber is easier to water tight when adding solar panels to a low slope roof

    Great job! Are you going to add gutters to prevent the rain runoff from going on your neighbors yard?

  • @peezdoc
    @peezdoc Před 8 měsíci

    I'm sure you thought of this already but don't forget that yard was slanted away from the house for water to run off. Love your videos man! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

      Thanks merry Christmas and yeah I'm going to be putting some gravel down around this area probably in the spring, also that overhang is about 2 feet long so about 1/4 of the shed or ground near it is never going to get wet.

      I did check this out before the project, and luckily where I live this is 100% good to go, didn't even need a permit to build as long as it wasn't 500 ft.² or bigger. However If it was attached to the house, then that would definitely be an issue.
