I finally did this, it works great! 80c was perfect, 90c was fine, 100c singed the plush... test at the very tip to be safe.

You can also just unplug your waxing iron and let it cool for a while before you run it over the waxed skin. It doesn't take much heat to melt the wax into the plush. After it cools I run a nylon brush over it tip to tail to separate the hairs of the plush and it's done. Good for 10-20 days in my experience.

Great stuff dude thanks for the nalgene + boiling water tip!! Got any tips for getting crud out of my glue? Gonna try the freeze n tweeze method unless you have a better suggestion (BD glue)

I've been waxing my skins like this for some time. But I'm always a little curious how often I should do it or what is happening to the accumulated wax and if I should try and remove it at some point. I rewaxed my skins a few days ago, plan on doing another 4/5 days touring on them and plan to wax again prior to a trip to Norway. No idea if thats too much or too little.

I find that a hot wax on my skins is good for at least ten days of touring and usually more depending on how much wet snow I am skinning through.

Is it advisable to put the same wax on the base of the ski itself?

    • @skiziskin

Skin wax is too soft to use on the ski base. You can use a ski wax on your skins, but keep to softer warmer waxes for skins.

how many days (or hours of skinning if you're that nerdy) do you find skins waxed as such continue to perform well above freezing? thanks.

Does this help with improving grip as well as glide?
