Picture this: the lush forest around you is a riot of greens, the air is filled with the sweet scent of fir and the soothing sounds of birdsong, rustling leaves and water flowing nearby. But all that tranquility is shattered by the relentless pounding of your own heartbeat, echoing in your ears like a jackhammer. Your breath comes in ragged gasps, each step a battle against gravity and fatigue....

Also known as “The Everest of Valleycliffe”, Mt Crumpit delivers alpine-style movement from the security of sea level. However, don’t be seduced by Crumpit’s modest elevation gain. The suffering this punchy climb induces may be short-lived but if you do it right, you’ll feel the hurt deeply and immediately. Start your watch on the short bridge near the start of the S&M Connector. Then make a ri...

Hi, what condition was the shelter in? Is it actually doable to sleep inside?
It is an emergency shelter. You'd be more comfortable camping up there
@@skiuphill-runuphill5805 Thanks! Planning on camping up there soon.
It's strange that a pair of skins takes 1.5 tubes of glue. Why not make the tube the right size? Perhaps because narrow 70mm wide skins for 20 years ago took less glue?
Is it possible to add the pivot buckle mode from phantom that adds more heel lock like you can with the atomic backlands or is that not possible with these boots?
Thanks for sharing this information!
You can also just unplug your waxing iron and let it cool for a while before you run it over the waxed skin. It doesn't take much heat to melt the wax into the plush. After it cools I run a nylon brush over it tip to tail to separate the hairs of the plush and it's done. Good for 10-20 days in my experience.
I've been waxing my skins like this for some time. But I'm always a little curious how often I should do it or what is happening to the accumulated wax and if I should try and remove it at some point. I rewaxed my skins a few days ago, plan on doing another 4/5 days touring on them and plan to wax again prior to a trip to Norway. No idea if thats too much or too little.
I find that a hot wax on my skins is good for at least ten days of touring and usually more depending on how much wet snow I am skinning through.
Got stuck on the side of a steep slope because I left my skins too long. I finally walked up as I was close to the top. I now know how apply the colltex stuff that I ordered.
I'm wondering if you have any opinion or experience with the Plum SOK and Plum Pekeye? I'm curious if the additional toe piece (Pekeye) performs better than the SOK? (regarding lateral stability - uphill)
The direct connection to the board via a tech toe makes a huge difference. It basically eliminates any play. I'd say that even if the Sok is designed to work without a specific toe piece by using the provided bracket that clips onto the binding on the uphill, it's way better to use a tech toe like then Pekye or an adapter + toe piece.
Awesome! If I'd seen this video 20 years ago it would have saved me from days' worth of mistakes.
Any chance you know anything about the Dalbello Quantum Asolo?
The boots are pretty much the same except the Asolo had a different closure system
How was the ride without phantom link levers?
I have about 200kms in mine and I like them a lot. Couple of negatives: -Vibram midsole could be a little more plush, a bit stiff -Tongue could use a bit of padding as those laces do hurt the top of the foot in downhills Other than that they’re great 🤟🏼
when letting the glue cure could I hang them or should they stay horizontal to prevent glue from moving around? living in my van so there are some space considerations.
Usually the glue gains cohesion after only a few minutes and it becomes very quickly difficult to "move" glue on the skins. I don't think there's any issue hanging the skins once the glue has been on the skins for 10-15 minutes.
I’ve been riding a lot on full tilt ascendant , feel like a soft boot to me but with much better edge holding in hard pack . And I’ve . I work up Glencoe as ski patrol mon -fri so know all about ice 🤣🤣 .. all I did was take off the standard tongue fit an atomic backland tongue and remove the toe and ankle clips . So your just relying on the Velcro strap for forward lean . And the ankle clamp for heel side .. 🤷♀️ sadly no longer available with the Michelin sole as got bought out by k2 and now sold as thier diverge . Identical other than the soles 🤷♀️. I been trying atomic backlands this year . Way better touring mode but def not as good on the ride quality , I’m yet to get some phantom links tho so fingers crossed . Never noticed dalbello , but the ft / k2 diverge has wider last for my feet as backlands dalbello a bit narrow. 🤷♀️
How is the last compared to the Phantoms in the heel, mid- and toe area?
similar to the Backland boot at the heel, a touch narrower at the mid foot and the forefoot but with more height around the toes. The Phantom slipper's just a discontinued Atomic Backland shell.
What has been your feedback? these seem to be advertised as a stiff boot which has me a bit concerned, how does its stiffness compare to the backlands?
The Quantum Evo Sport is extremely soft, and it also naturally lets the knee track inward when flexing into the cuff. The Quantum Free is advertised as the stiffer option, the Evo Sport is so soft that we probably wouldn’t recommend it for skiing.
Great stuff dude thanks for the nalgene + boiling water tip!! Got any tips for getting crud out of my glue? Gonna try the freeze n tweeze method unless you have a better suggestion (BD glue)
Thanks for the video! Do you have any experience regluing Montana skins? I have a couple sets and was wondering if Gold Label would work.
Gold Label seems to work ok on most skins. If your Montana are classic sticky skins with visible thread textile backer then a transfer tape from Contour should work too. Non-sticky skins (hybrids) need to be refreshed with a proprietary system, and lots of ‘em can’t actually be re-glued
Thanks. We’ll done!
How has no hardboot manufacturer figured out there is an out-of-the box hardboot market for splitboarders and dominate it?
There is, two years now, the Disruptive from Key Equipment.
@@Hanssupansnow I think he meant one one of the bigger ski boot manufacturers?
Love the video, please work on the sound.
Thank you for the review. If they fit half a size small I'm a size 13 and they only have 13 or 14 should I go a full size up? thanks!
Thanks for the review. They have spiked Nordas now for winter! I'm 150kms into my first pair and I agree they are light comfortable and they don't suck out your energy. Quite an accomplishment! On the other hand I'm finding it difficult to get the lacing right so they don't squish my arch down too much. Maybe I need thicker socks. I'm an 11.5 Saucony and Hoka size, narrow foot, and Norda 11.5 seems okay so far.
Size run small?
Ya they run 1/2 size smaller than the likes of Asics, New Balance, Nike, Hoka, etc. I'd say a full size smaller than Salomon
Nice review. Was about to return mine cause they were too stiff but wearing them in the house a 2nd time they already feel better. Tough call for me cause I want a shoe for walking my dogs a few hours a day
Awesome review!
Outstanding review! I’m on my 4th pair and the Norda 001 is in a class by itself. What Hoka aspires to be.
Hey I'm a size 11 usually, what should I buy my Norda's in? 11.5 or 12? Thanks!
@@luket697 half a size up your standard size. I usually wear a US 11. In Norda I wear a US 11.5.
if you're on your 4th pair it makes me think that the Norda 101 is not very durable?
@@andrehendrik no just like their colorways ;-)
will this work for everyday city walk ... im not a huge runner, looking for comfort..
Thanks for putting these off again this season! I'm really grateful you didn't move back in person, Zoom is actually a convenient venue for *this one thing*.
"Got to get those gutters up before it rains again" haha
Way to break it down to the basics for the first discussion of the season, thanks folks!!
I need fir snow it's okay or no ?
Probably the best place on the course to be when you've only got on location to shoot from. Nice work.
Very helpful review, was looking for a stability shoe for pronation that doesn't exist apparently :)
how many days (or hours of skinning if you're that nerdy) do you find skins waxed as such continue to perform well above freezing? thanks.
10 to 20 days in my experience
Good / Excellent review... Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thank you, very helpful!
Thanks for review! Give me advice please) I wanna go for previous caldera 3'series My foot is 27,2 cm What size will be better? 9,5(27,5) or 10(28)
What is your usual shoe size for running shoes? Brooks sizes very consistently and it runs the same as New Balance, Nike, Saucony, etc. Usually comparing the EU sizes (43 or 43.5 in your case I imagine) is what gives the best size reference.
@@skiuphill-runuphill5805 Thanks for answer. I had asics, salomon, hoka sneakers. They all differed in size. Even one brand depending on the model. Already found where to try two models. Cascadia 14 and Caldera 3. They turned out to be different for me. Caldera 10. Cascadia 9.5
Thanx for the video, perfectly explained !!
Good review, especially fit difference between 3 and 4. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice review. I loved the original Caldera (bought three pairs).
Thanks for this.
Publishing the EKG Loop right now.
Awesome! I've heard that's a great loop!
Does this help with improving grip as well as glide?
It's really to avoid snow buildup and improve glide in some cases.
I finally did this, it works great! 80c was perfect, 90c was fine, 100c singed the plush... test at the very tip to be safe.
Awesome job, everybody. Thanks for the record, Joel!
Ate these durable?
nice video !!
Is it advisable to put the same wax on the base of the ski itself?
Skin wax is too soft to use on the ski base. You can use a ski wax on your skins, but keep to softer warmer waxes for skins.
Comprehensive and well explained. Thanks!
