Slugs can be made for a .410 bore shotgun by partially filling spent .38 Special or .357 Magnum cases with molten lead. Grind the diameter of the case rim down to match the diameter of the case, which is approximately 0.3795" diameter. Leave the spent primer in the fired cases. The spent case head becomes the tip of the projectile. Vary the amount of lead poured to leave more or less of the case unfilled to your liking. With the spent case filled approximately 3/4 full of lead, the slugs are nose-heavy like a foster slug and more accurate. Then load the cases with the open end pushed down into a three-petal wad. Insert the wad with homemade slug and push it all the way down with a dowel, just like you would any other slug. An overshot card can be glued in to seal the end of the .410 shell. Experiment with different chokes to see what works best. Happy shooting!
True that! You could buy a roll crimper. Though some may prefer to create one, from a nut cracker ( see video). These videos give people ideas, choices and alternates, as opposed to spending money and time, they may not have or just don't want to either, to go out buying one.
