  • James Kennerley performs his own transcription of Scott Joplin's (c. 1868-1917): Maple Leaf Rag. Raised on the Texas-Arkansas border, Scott Joplin composed over 100 ragtime pieces. This one, published in 1899, was the most popular during his lifetime. The work is infused with syncopation, an element that would come to define the ragtime genre, and this new arrangement allows for use of the Kotzschmar Memorial Organ's various percussion stops, including the Marimba, Xylophone, and Glockenspiel.
Performed live in concert in August 2021 on the Kotzschmar Memorial Organ by James Kennerley, Municipal Organist for the City of Portland, Maine.

Thanks for bringing this to the organ. The march tempo lends itself well to the organ

I couldn't find the Virgil Fox version online, but this one is similar and does indeed have some very good percussion stops, as mentioned.
