Coach Nick went deep into the footage to figure out why the Brooklyn Nets so abruptly fired head coach Steve Nash. Was it because of Kevin Durant? Kyrie Irving? Or his inability to mesh Ben Simmons' talent with theirs?

Nash's coaching trajectory could be like Jason Kidd's. Both HOF players who started their coaching careers slow but will eventually find their identity.
HOF players you mean
@@kevrlee yes. Thanks
I don't know about that. I think Kidd did a lot for the development of Giannis. Based on that I'd much rather see Kid with Ben then Nash.

@@kevrlee my dog
This was the best thing for nash, he deserves players that trust in him.
Maybe, I doubt Nash gets another job coaching after this though. Most of the coaches who get fired never get another head coaching job in the NBA.
@@tribalypredisposed You are 100% ignorant. Jason Kidd didn't have that great of a record with the Bucks, but was able to have an influence on Giannis. He then got picked up as an assistant head coach for the Lakers and now with the Mavericks where he took them to the WCF in his first year. Stop pulling stuff out your behind and do some research first.
his players need a better coach
@@ruminating1596 one guy who got rehired and I am an idiot? Yeah, there are the Van Gundy and D'Antonios of the NBA inexplicably being hired over and over, but there are a lot more Marc Jacksons never getting another shot at being a head coach.
@@tribalypredisposed It would help if he gets an assistant coaching role.
I still remeber when people were calling Simmons baby Lebron 😅
He is a baby tho
Used to annoy me when I heard that.
Coz his shooting is as good as Lebron as a baby so it still fits for him..
@@ianreed9638 make sure you're behind him when he shoots. Airballs hit bystanders.
A team with Ky, Joe Harris, Patty Mills and KD should be torching opponents from 3 every single night. This is sad.
Look up the 3pt %of the role players
Seth Curry too 👀
That should work in theory but you also have to play defense and that’s something nets don’t have
Yea, when you dont have a coach that can get the team in order that'll happen.
but theres no defense
My hot take is that KD actually prolonged Nash's time as HC. The Nets were planning to fire him anyways, but with KD saying what he did they prolonged his time so it would look like the Nets fired him due to bad early season and not KD's words.
I also think they shared this plan to KD to calm him down
That’s interesting 🤔🤔
That sounds pretty rational I'd say. Maybe they had some last hope that he would figure it out
Great conspiracy.
who cares, he is fired and thats it.
I don't think so, too complicated. He prob had a very small leash after the off-season disaster... Starting 1-6 will get you fired in the nba 3 out of 4 times unless you are coming off a championship.
Coach do you think Ben Simmons even TOUCHED a basketball in the last 2 years ? Because it sure doesn't seem like he did. :/
I have to agree with this. I mean, yes, he had his issues in another team before, but he got out of Philly, he should be at least exerting effort in this new team, like what he used to do before when he was a beast in his former team. Whatever happened to his skills ans psyche?
All he did was touch his money because that’s all half these players care about
He’s been training with Chris Johnson a lot of players train with him
Basketball is just not his sport, he should try something else and see if he likes that. Beach volleyball maybe. Or water polo. Something with a much bigger net. Or maybe he just doesn't like sports and will be happier painting or writing fiction novels or something. Whatever he does, he obviously doesn't like basketball at all at this point.
Other guys who have been injured and off the court for a long time talk about what a hell that has been for them and how ecstatic they are to play again... and Simmons definitely didn't do that.
Sad to see ben Simmons play like this.. when his time in phily he is my favorite player. But now is sad for him :(
Almost a million WOW! The first breakdown I ever watched was when James Harden was with OKC and he hit that step back over Kawhi in San Antonio ! Going on 11 years now keep it up coach !
I started watching Coach Nick in senior year of high school, 8 years ago. Really cool to see he's still around and growing his channel
My first one was about why MJ was better than Kobe.
@@brianjuice damn it really has been that long ...
Been there through all the cringe. Bball break starting to get good now
simmons should be a phenomenal defender - 6'10" with long arms and footspeed of a guard. absolutely inexcusable that the defense gets better with him off the floor.
Love your work coach! Keep it up
Coach, can we revisit the Nets turnaround and 9 game win streak? The coaching change looks like it made a massive difference.
Or, maybe the players got what they want and decided to play smh.

@@riahmatic like the Lakers last season too
@@starsportscardshobbiesandm7222 lol last season is still recent. I'm talking like since the beginning of sports
If you watched enough Nets games in the past 2 years, it's actually really hard to defend Nash as coach.
@@andyofzz you also have to look at Kyrie’s suspensions and Hardens’ lack of motivation
Great video bro, it's been awhile now since you posted tho
The defence doesn't look any better than it was last year.
If I was the nets I'd rather have Harden over Simmons. At least he can score
I don't think Simmons likes basketball anymore, or he never liked it but now hates it. Simmons can definitely play a lot better on defense if he wanted to. Harden suddenly realized he will not get to play forever and wants to win a championship before retiring, but he partied too much for too many years and his ship has sailed. Yeah, good start to the season, and now predictably injured.
Neither of these two can be stars on a contending team. Harden should come off the bench in limited minutes to try to keep him healthy. Simmons should retire and pursue his true passion of stamp collecting or whatever it is.
That ballstopper? Nah. They already have one in Kyrie
Coach Nick should be on TNT with Chuck... that would be COMPLETE insight - on the court, and in the locker room
so happy you changed the music. good vid
He didn't. He just used a different music for this video and others
Steve Nash be like: Yes, FINALLY I AM OUT HERE 😂😂😂
Please make a video on the travelling calls, especially given what's happened to Jordan Poole!
I'm so glad they are finally calling that. Thinking basketball made a great video om how the refs/rules have made things easier for the offense.
If anyone deserves a million subscribers its coach Nick!
Imagine being coached by him I would turn into a literall sponge to absorb all the knowledge I could 😂😂
Can't wait for Coach Nick to make a video on the struggle of the Warriors this early in the season.
They're not really struggling. Kerr is just playing the young guys more. They still.have Steph Klay and Draymond so they'll start winning games once they get back on the court consistently.
Nash should be happy to be out of that nightmare situation. I can see him coaching a young team that actually wants to ball out. Kyrie will be out of the league within 2 years. Mark my words
The team should be happy that Nash got fired. Nash isnt going to be a great coach because he wants to run the same losing system that he used to play under all those years. Vaughn has cleaned up Nash's mess and actually has them playing well. So happy he got fired.
9 game win streak under Vaughn. Looks more and more like the team benefit from Nash leaving. Go figure.
I've been following since 10 years, how is this channel still sub 1 Million. I came for the bulls/thibs breakdowns.
Have u recommended it to all you friends?
You just need to know that despite all the turmoils from the get go, the Nets initially played well under Nash, nobody was really confident 3 heavy usage players could coexist but they played really well, Harden showed a different type of game with less dribbling, Kyrie became more of a scorer, KD was helping distributing, so it’s hard to blame Nash as the scape goat when none of the “super stars” seem to care for anything other than their offensive numbers.
This is wrong. The Nets initially played well under Mike D'Antoni and Ime Udoka, who were Nash's assistant coaches. When they left the team fell apart because Nash was clueless on his own. And we have clear evidence of that now.
oh another bad take. No, Nash never utilized them well. at all. it wasn't his schemes, he was fed them. You once again buy into the media and blame the stars when its pretty obvious now that Nash could not coach for the life of him. he was dealt a bad hand yes, but now the Nets have gone back into the big 3's roles, with more balance and especially defense
always great breakdowns but this video could have been 5 seconds long with Kyrie saying "I dont see us as having a head coach" along with a note from KD asking for Nash to be fired.
been watching for years u da goat coach nick
Can you rewatch Nash's last couple games? According to Stein's sources Kyrie refused to run Nash's play call 10+ times in 1 game
The Nash Suns back in the day had elite offence and terrible defence
Can you make a vid about the Twolves struggles?
Seeing how the Nets are playing now, it's clear Nash was a pretty bad coach
No doubt bro I really dont wanna blame on coach but this guy 😅
He was terrible at adjustments and timeout plays
Imagine someone coming to YOUR JOB. They are allowed to be in your face the whole shift while being able to scream at you. On top of that, they get to wear clothing that insinuates you're a bad person for something you didnt even say.
Keep that same energy. After Nash leaves the nets are running the league now 12 winning game streak and counting 🔥🔥
We going har for the title this year 💪🏾
Nash should try to be an assistant coach at GS.
Because players aren't held accountable in this league.
Oh yes, and totally not holding NBA owners accountable as well.
All the attention is on Kyrie but not the shady disgusting NBA owners.
America is so broken
He was a terrible x and o coach but let’s blame the players 😂😂😂 two players averaging 30 and you can’t draw up plays to pull up a win
same reason why ceos are fired. because they cant connect with people under you.
No because he sucks
@@robert2690 owners and management need to be held accountable for putting these rosters in place.
Coach, what's going on with Golden State right now? Please, enlighten us!
Since you've got this soap opera out of the way. Im hoping to see a quality bbbreakdown video like you used to very soon. Would really love to hear your opinion on how talented the league is right now. Cause I've been following the nba since '99 and I think this is the most talent I've ever seen.
A big issue on offence is also Kevin Durant’s lack of ability to be a play maker, it’s arguably the weakest part of his game.
That’s not true at all.
I mean KD aint the best play maker in the league by any means but to say he lacks it is just ridiculous.
@@dooshdoosh4312 if you watched the playoffs against the Celtics last year that was his biggest flaw, he could barely make the right reads and they exposed him
@@brendanbloom3366 I think his roster isn’t helping him, I’m not saying he’s a bad playmaker but he’s not the greatest either

Mr. @BBallBreakdown, why are you not coaching in the NBA?
UPDATE? YALL IN THE COMMENTS SAY THAT NASH ISNT THE PROBLEM? LOOOOOOOL 😂😂😂😂
We're going to need a new breakdown
This the last year of irving in nets, and i swear no team will gamble to this guy a toxic not only for his team but for the whole nba
I hope Nash gets another chance to coach a normal team where the focus can just be in basketball
When are we getting the Milwaukee Bucks video coach?
constantly changing lineups with players with no chemistry and playing out of position is a recipe for disaster.
I have to stand with Nash on this. One of the nicest, most well-liked guys and an all time great playmaker. On the other hand KD, Kyrie, Simmons are all known to be troublesome and acting on their emotions. From all perspectives I have to believe Nash had little fault here.
Nets should simply stop playing Simmons if he doesn't even try to improve his shooting. Nets offense would be better if they played 4v5 on offense than with Simmons.
there is no hope for his shooting. Non shooters don’t just randomly become outside threats. I can’t think of a single instance in the history of the game. And i don’t mean being 30% on 1 attempt a game or something, but someone the defense will actually guard.
Do you play pool by the way?? I notice you say "miscue" at 3:40.
I'm so glad Nash is free from all that BS
And Nets fans are glad that the team is free from his lmao.
Hey Coach can you do a video on the Warriors.
When was the last time an underperforming team got better after changing the head coach? Last year Boston had a bad start but they stayed with their coach and got better, went to the finals. Someone should be blamed and take responsibility for the bad performance so I understand the firing but I doubt this waa the beat basketball move.
The Philadelphia Phillies are currently playing in the World Series.
Miami heat when SVG -> pat riley, won the chip after the change. But that wasn’t mid season
When the Lakers in the 2000s switched from Kurt Rambis to Phil Jackson, then again when they switched from Frank Hamblen to Phil Jackson. 5 championships were won by the Lakers due to the switch(es).
Also: doubling back to this, I think we can add the Brooklyn Nets to that list.
I mean, with respect Nash always said in his interviews that he wasn't an x's and o's guy. That he was coming at this more as from an interpersonal specialist while having had Marks' friendship for 20 years.
hm, turns out it was nash
They giving up 130 a night but I'll watch this video away
Is it crazy to think that a Simmons-Draymond trade could happen. I only see it as a win win for both sides.
It would be good for the Nets but bad for the Warriors. Draymond is an actual playmaker. So he'd take some pressure off KD with his passing in the half-court. You wouldn't be seeing KD throw the ball away because of double teams. He also has a very good IQ. Draymond sets moving screens but not as bad as Ben does in these clips. But defensively they'd still be bad because Draymond isn't the same player on that end anymore. While the Warriors get a low-IQ point guard who can't defend like he used to and refuses to shoot from anywhere on the floor. If Ben was 22 they could mold him. But he is a rookie of the year and a perennial all-star player. Which means they are getting whatever he is right now. So a horrible trade for the warriors.
KD AND Kyrie wanted Nash too, re-listen to the podcast KD and Kyrie did on the hiring of Steve Nash. They were excited but they also "didn't need a head coach" lol
Hi. What have you seen from de Wolves so far?
Nick....pls do a deep dive into the Warriors early issues. There starting 5 have a great offensive rating and the bench is terrible. The defense overall is horrible along as too manu fouls.
Anti-KD bias is the only reason people are defending Steve Nash tbh. Nash's best year as a coach was 2021 when Ime Udoka and Mike D'Antoni were his assistants. After those 2 guys left, Steve Nash's coaching ability left too.
Spot on. Nash should be coaching the Kings or OKC.
@@ClintonCouldHaveWarnedUs Exactly. He should've started off with an up and coming team, not a team with championship aspirations. That's like giving the keys of your Maserati to a 10 year old and telling him to be responsible and drive safe.
Oh get KDs nuts out your throat, that whole nets team doesn't even have any type of will to play basketball. Yeah I am pretty sure its Nash's fault why Simmons scores 2 points and fouls out every other game
lol it was never coaching buddy. It was the 3 headed monster KD kyrie and harden that carried that team to the second seed in the east, then walked all over the celtics, then kyrie and harden get injured and KD puts the team on his back for a couple games but couldn't get past giannis. After harden left this team been ass.
@@mambaASI Explain to me how Steve Nash was the best coach in the league last year. I'll wait.
Ben can’t even set fucking screens bro 😂😂😂😂
How does this effect LeBrons legacy?
See now the problem with Nash getting fried is that since he was a laker it gives lakes a bad look, causing lakers an embarrassment to the rest of the legue, now coach and gm LBJ is going to face a very hard time trying to find away to get a 3rd win to be able to overcome with Nash being fired. Unfortunately Lebrija legacy is still affected negative because if he does something incredible to overcome that nasty Nash firing, he is trying to hard and if he doesn’t do anything coach gm part owner player lebron didn’t do enough or is only worried about him self . LBJ is not a winner in this firing.

7 min video with like 2 minutes of ads are you serious ????
KD tried to take the Warrior's winning system with him by grabbing Nash and assistants. But he forgot, the Warrior's system is... Steph Curry.
First, KD never asked for Nash to be there. Nash's friend and former teammate Sean Marks wanted him there. 2nd, Nash was never an assistant coach so how would he have gotten the Warriors system out of Nash? Some of you are so focused on being narrative driven haters that you make zero sense with your takes.
Nick, would you take the job of coaching the nets? Just curious
Politics aside, great video.
Go go go go do go go down nets!
Are you in?
i hope nash gets hired by another team and that team gets good. it was really unfair how the nets blamed him for their lack of success.
Looks like it was pretty fair considering how well the Nets are doing under Jacque Vaughn.
He went 94-67 pretty good
They probably should have torn the whole thing down in the off-season. I’m a big proponent of going all-in when you get elite players, but this just wasn’t working.
And thinking that it will be different without Covid or this or that is like having a baby to save a relationship.
I still think Nash went to the front of the line too quickly, but all of this isn’t his fault.
Probably need new ownership too. Tsai is probably a very nice man that means well, but he got pushed around way too much in this deal and ended up just making worse decisions when he tried to save face.
I don't really see how poor switching is on the coaches. If it was a college team, sure, but KD, Kyrie, Seth Curry, and so forth have all been in the game more than long enough to know how to read and communicate the floor. Even if the coaching staff was inept you'd think that these guys could at least pull off some switches.
NO coach can teach hustle the 3 most payed players are drama queens lmaooo they couldn't defend WNBA teams and I'm actually 100% serious.
ok the plan worked. time to start trying
Nearly a full minute of an ad in the middle of the video is not it.
I feel like Nash is one of those coaches that kinda assumes that everyone should already know to do the effort things like rebounding so he feels he shouldn't have to emphasize it.
And you're basing this on...??
Ben Simmons downfall brings me great joy
4:13 as young basketball player I wonder why they dont do a better job of communicating
This channel is better than the whole ESPN (except where Stephen A. Smith or JJ. Reddick is on) in terms of breaking down the game.

You can see it in the film: Simmons is not a good basketball player, and he hasn't done anything to get better. His effort is beyond lackluster. This is not rust. This is a lack of desire, and no offseason work.
I love the mystery music almost as much as the bballbreakdown hype music!
Also, KD requested Steve Nash and got rid of Kenny Atkinson just to get rid of Steve Nash.. who’s really the problem here?
KD never requested Nash. This is a media driven narrative that is fake news.
Steve Nash.
the amount of people calling nash a scapegoat clues me in that alot of people dont actually watch the games and because the team is talented it's automatically the players' fault. nash has had no system in place in the 2 years he's been there, offensively nor defensively.
Imagine if Kyrie were actually smart enough to realize that exactly what he has needed with the Nets was more Steve Nash in his game...,..
Even though he is small they should start Morris at center i think and bring claxton from bench.
As someone that helped with the development of one of the greatest teams to ever do it "Golden State Warriors", and being an all-time great himself, I highly doubt Nash was the problem...
They’re winning without him wtf are you saying 😂😂😂😂 nets could be down 20 and Nash would just stand there and clap. While Jacque Vaughn calls a timeout and set the team straight! Cut it out
No excuses for the Brooklyn Nets.
No coach deserves that environment. Every Net's start have an issue. Then, when it seems problem solved, another issue appears. I hope Nash can find another opportunity in a better environment
Coach Vaughn is doing just fine in that environment And he's so much better than Steve Nash as a coach that he can sit the entire starting lineup out of a game and still WIN it. Steve Nash could NEVER.
Nash does a lot of bad coaching the same as DAntoni does. He makes his star players play like 40 mins a night. That is not efficient. The bucks only ask Giannis to play like 30 mins a night, and puts up better numbers.
Did you not watch the video??? Did you hear who the 3rd best playmaker is on the team?? Royce O'neal. What are you supposed to do except outshoot opponents when your defense is trash.
Hopefully Simmons can have an explosive game and everyone will hop on the hype train. Then we (nets) will ship him off for a wild trade and win win
