Very informative!
You're art looks really great!
Thanks!
Useful info. Thank you :)
+Bryan Collins Thank you!
Very useful guide. Thnx~
+Shelny Wan Thank you! I'm looking to come up with more videos like this so everyone can have an easier time surviving artist alleys!
I had no idea rounded hole punches exists xD soooo cool
Any Staples or Office Max should carry them. I think you can even find them at the dollar store. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you for all your tips. Can you tell me what size your bookmarks are? They look like a great size.
+Tiana Nurse The bookmarks are 2x6. I've seen bookmarks go as tall as 2x9 but I find that too tall for me. I think the tassels add enough length to a 2x6 without the bookmarks becoming too unwieldy. Thanks!
What do you price your bookmarks? (And why did you choose that price, if you can answer that)
I base the price of my items a lot on what the going price for similar items are in the artist alley while still taking into consideration for cost of manufacture. I don't want to price my items higher than everyone else unless it's obvious my items are of higher quality but I also don't want to price my items too low unless I'm considering it more of a promotional item and making my money back on it isn't an issue especially if it didn't cost me that much to make. In the end it depends on what your goal at the show is for the item your selling.
I got my laminator at Walmart for $20.
Hi Daphne! I have a furry convention coming up where I will be doing bookmarks for the first time. My biggest issue is working out how to display them the nicest and so that they get seen. Do you have any tips for where I could get some good stands? (I'm located in Australia and my convention is in about 2-3 weeks) I've been struggling to find something to put them in. Thanks in advance! :D
For the bookmarks I made my own stand using foam core board and slipcases (the soft plastic ones, not the hard slipcases) for trading cards taped to the board using double sided tape. The bookmarks slide right in and the slipcases can hold serveral in one. I then used thin strips of duct (duck?) tape to reinforce the bottoms because the plastic tears somewhat easily. You can then put the board on an easel or lean it against something. I hope that helps!
You can kinda see it in this picture on the left: facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=454994147983503&set=pb.100004187644404.-2207520000.1492218463.&type=3&theater
Even though this is a year ago i think you should hang them for next convention using twine rope and clip or wooden clip i think
Perhaps you've already made a video on this but I need to ask about people who sell fan art as bookmarks. Can you get in trouble for that? If you make your version of Elsa isn't still a violation of copyright? Thanks
Technically all fanart you see for sale is in violation of copyright, including the bookmarks I've done here. If you don't have the rights from the copyright holder you're in violation. The thing that causes confusion tho is that most companies don't bother chasing after artists because they consider it publicity or just not worth the bother, HOWEVER they HAVE gone after individual artists anyway because that is their right. Any fanart you see for sale is done at the risk of the copyright holder coming after you regardless of whether it's your own version or not.
The only "gray area" I know about is if you are selling the original art because those are considered one of a kind pieces and not mass produced so you're technically not competing with people who paid for licenses to create legit mass produced items.
Thanks so much.
Hi what printer you use to print the bookmark or can you recommend a good printer for printing arts and bookmark? Thank you
I made the prints using a local copy shop but when I ran low on bookmarks but didn't have enough to make to use the copy shop I just used a standard inkjet printer I have. Once the prints are laminated you really can't tell the difference between a digital print and an inkjet.
Daphne Lage thank you
What type of paper do you use?
+Anzu Chan For original artwork I use Strathmore Bristol Series 300. You can find this paper at Michaels or any art shop. It's pretty standard. For the printed bookmarks I use an 80lb coated/glossy stock. I'm pretty sure you can use thicker stock to get a really rigid bookmark but you have to make sure it can run through your laminator.
what paper do u use?
I don't remember exactly but it's like a Hammermill 80lb paper. You don't want to go too thick or the lamination won't seal very well and you don't want to go too thin or it will be too flimsy. 80lb I can run through my inkjet and get the same result I get getting the images printed at a copy shop on their index paper.
