As I pressed my ear against the abrasive stone walls, I heard the horrific clamoring susurrus of rodents, one of which decried, "'I'M THE GIANT RAT THAT MAKES ALL OF THE RULES."
Goddamit man. I didn't know what that reference was, so I looked it up. Now that's gonna have permanent real estate in my mind.
I already have the Sears air conditioning commercial, the Zebra stripe gum jingle, the Kraft Cheesasauras, the Berries n Cream guy, the entirety of Drinking out of Cups and several quotes from Uncle Addy. Now the fucking rats have joined the cavalcade...

Changing the name for the cat was a nice touch, Cosmos is a good name. I'd never heard of this story before and i had no idea that Lovecraft used the name of his real cat in any of his writings.
It would’ve been great if you would’ve called him N’wah man
It was his grandfather's cat.
My family has had many cats, though the only really offensive name one had was "God-Dammit" given to the guy by myself. Given his tendency towards havoc and mischief on a level unusual for even a cat I think it was a fitting name.
One of the funniest things still trolled about to this day.

I really like this story it's one of my favorites. I too once went mad because of rats in the walls
is this a euphemism for what one’s parents were doing in the next room? I imagine that would be quite a humorous expression.
The other night I heard a scratching in the walls, coming from the direction of my closet. We've had squirrels in the attic before, but had repairs done and the whole roof replaced years ago. I thought, with dread, that a rat had invaded our walls. If one could get in, more were sure to come, if they weren't there already. As the scratching got louder and more frantic, another scary thought came to mind. We have a cat. Cunning, stealthy, and curious. She has snuck into my room without my knowledge before. What if she did so, amd slipped into my closet when I had opened it before bed? I turned on my lights and my phone light and slid the box from in front of my closet door, opened it, and nothing. I shined into the two open boxes, between the stacked boxes and the wall. No cat. No rats. No more scratching from the walls.
Satisfied that the cat was not trapped, I closed the closet, and settled back into bed. I haven't heard any scraping from within my walls since, but this story reminded me of that incident. Mei-mei is well. I just gave her pats in the living room a few hours ago. I wonder, then, what the hell was scratching in my wall, and why did it stop when I opened the closet? I hope it was some kind of ghost-rats, because the alternative is scarier and much more expensive to deal with.
