Nords actually make a great mage race for the _very_ late game. Getting spell-reflected is a huge issue, but Nords can just use Frost magic to not nuke themselves with their own spells.

I'm currently playing my very first playthrough of Oblivion and I'll say that I'm glad I picked Dark Elf because I couldn't imagine the frustration of dying from three scamp fireballs.
It was the same for me. My friend picked High Elf as his first and that -25% fire resistance was fucking him so badly that I just went with the one that's almost immune to it.

Iron age viking age is kinda cool for me ironically not because of the viking themselves, but the fact that christianity hasn't yet took hold in europe and there are still feuds between pagans and christians. For example, charlemagne of the franks and widukind of the saxons, also the fact that the anglo-saxon hasn't yet conquered all of england. Most prominently in my opinion is the relationship between the vikings and the islamic world, in the west, al-andalus was raided by the vikings, some of the raid failed and some of the norse converted to islam and became cheese maker, in the east, ibn fadlan became the sole witness of the culture of the rus viking.

If you intend to play a vampire because their natural race bonus cancels out the natural negative debuff becoming a vampire so effectively you get all the upsides and none of the downsides it’s literally their best aspect.😂
Breton. Atronach Stone. Magic Absorption in alteration tree and an armor spell. Boom. You are now 80%-100% immune to magic (depending on the dice roll) no enchantment slots required.
@D it's mostly just atronach sign being op. Breton magicka bonus is nice but the 50% resist isn't nearly as strong as it sounds - it only really affects a few specific spell types (e.g. elemental damage is unaffected) For minmaxing the actual best race is probably nord or dunmer for their innate resistances. Nord frost immunity means you can throw frost magic around with impunity and spam frost atronachs with 0 risk. Dunmer doesn't have innate fire immunity but it's easy to boost to 100% with constant effect items, and because it's not innate immunity blasting everything with fire usually still does damage while frost has more things that are immune to it
@Ms. Aelanwyr Ilaicos it's different in morrowind. It works like that in oblivion onward (and is like the only way to actually make the game bearable on max difficulty there, as weakness to magic can make your spells and enchants hit very hard) but here it's mostly for stuff like damage x spells which usually aren't that strong from npc's What I'm saying is logic won't save you from this acid trip of a game
I want to be able to complete the next game entirely as a sleazy cyrodilic used car salesman that uses money and gets others to solve all of his problems. Mehrune Dagon trying to take over the world again? Have him sign a contract with a hidden non aggression clause and trick him into playing chess with Sheogorath for all eternity. Alduin being a pain in the ass? Easy, hire a mercenary company and lease to them a bunch of daedric artifacts to kill him with. The possibilities are endless.

As an Orc main, you're not wrong. However, we're the only race to be viewed with any measure of respect to walk alongside Daedra; the Doomdriven clan. No matter how many times Orsinium is destroyed we always come back stronger! And we also have the best gourmet cooks, and it's a little known fact that Orc moms don't skimp on sugar! ;)

The wood elves wild hunt is way cooler because they can just turn themselves into divine powered raging monsters, and it is even thought to be how most of the monsters on Tamriel came to be, at least by some.
Always played orc going full heavy armour two handed. If you're in trouble and need that extra boost go berserk mode and if they REALLY piss you off turn into your werewolf form and go on a murder spree for a few weeks. Ahhh never gets old.

@@rejvaik00 Honestly debatable. Not to discredit Shalidor but Maormer would call Orgnum the greatest mage of all time, Dunmer would claim it's Divayth Fyr or Sotha Sil (Shalidor stole from Akatosh before any mention of the Heart), so on so forth, keeping the cultural lens of the claims in mind.
They could do Valenwood and Black Marsh at the same time. Think outside the box. The two provinces are not that huge and that would give nice variation.
That would be my choice as well I would rather Elder Scrolls 6 take place in Black Marsh or it would take place in somewhere we haven't seen yet like Akavir

@@polerli18 Dunmer are gray, not black. Also, Redguards typically despise magic, necromancy and daedra worship. Three things which are pretty important hallmarks of Dunmer culture.

Bretons get that Magical resistance thats pretty good. They are pretty generic with the whole medieval royalty vibes but I do like the Direnni = nobility lore.
Breton has always been considered to be the OP'ed race, since at least Morrowind, they were OP in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. Oblivion got really bad with how a single item made you literally immune to any spell which doesn't bypass immunity (of which there are only a couple, like Sheogorath's teleport spell).
Dagoth's got a point about Dunmer, though -- these guys makes the best assassins, especially when you add vampirism into the mix. A 25% boost to Illusion spell power & detection avoidance while sneaking, 100% immunity to disease and frost AND all the powers that come with vampirism and the vampire lord form? That build is very, *very* OP when you put in the maximum amount of investment.
Imagine not picking the glorious scaly bois. What's not to love about mysterious lizard folk who can breathe water, are practically immune to disease, have an affinity for healing magic and light fingers and feet. Not to mention their lore and their bond to the hist trees. And if memory serves, they pushed back into oblivion from a gate cause they can apparently super charge themselves with hist voodoo should the need arise. I hope we get a game set in argonia some day.
Outside of their homeland of Valenwood, they really don't have a good reason to be cannibals. The Green Pact only applies to the Bosmer residing in Valenwood. The Bosmer aren't that bloodthirsty as a race directly because of the Green Pact. They know better. The Wild Hunt is pretty badass though.
I mean, skyrim's (since most played only it) south of the map is basically all wood elves territory, but for some ironic reason there is almost nothing about them, like they almost don't exist. Thanks for very good writing, Todd. (sarcasm)
As someone who picked a Nord as their first character in all mainline games, accurate. I am pale, illiterate, and get angry when I see an elf tossing magic at me. Especially those filthy, tall, *disgusting* Altmer.
Superior Dunmer: Conquered by the Empire and then occupied with a small and underequipped legion. Gets horribly mauled by daedra during the Oblivion crisis, thinks that's a good time for a civil war. Inferior Argonians: Empire only ever able to settle border areas of Black Marsh, legions sent inland get slaughtered. Immideately unites during the Oblivion crisis, slaughters daedra invaders so badly they invade Oblivion and daedra have to close their Black Marsh portals to stop the beat down.
Through my experience with elder scrolls lore, especially eso, I've found that I as an ever proud Nord, spend most of my time studying Khajit and Dunmer culture. This makes house parties a little awkward, but I manage
I do worry for the lore of sword singing though if ES6 is in hammerfell Cause it's badass to be able to manifest an ever changing weapon from the "song" your fucking soul makes, and have it evolve with you. Absolutly rad
I've always tended to pick Dunmer in every Elder Scrolls game. They are great mix of magic and warrior skills and their world in Morrowind just blew my mind. My second choice is Argonian. Next Elder Scrolls game should be setted in Black Marsh and based on slave raids that Dunmers take on Argonians. It would be great setting in swamps and deep woods with Dunmer's raid parties chasing slaves all around and Argonian's guerilla resistance.

@@a_makarov They are a race of giant gorilla people, under the rule of the Thalmor in Valenwood. They mimic their masters ways (the Thalmor), with posture, mannerisms, etc. It's old lore, but haven't read anything about them in a while. There's also the silver humans the Kothringi of Black Marsh.

Oh snap, although, to be fair they did go back, to gather up 500 Atmorans before going back to Skyrim and massacred the Falmer. Whatever was left of the Falmer fled to the Dwemer for help and those guys went "Sure, on one condition - you'll be blinded and turned into our slaves, then we'll vanish leaving you to wander through our ruins blindly until the conditions devolve you into those creatures from The Descent"

Nords actually make a great mage race for the _very_ late game. Getting spell-reflected is a huge issue, but Nords can just use Frost magic to not nuke themselves with their own spells.

I guess because Dunmer are 75% resistant to fire, but Nords are 100% resistant to ice as well as 50% to lightning.

Iron age viking age is kinda cool for me ironically not because of the viking themselves, but the fact that christianity hasn't yet took hold in europe and there are still feuds between pagans and christians.

@D it's mostly just atronach sign being op. Breton magicka bonus is nice but the 50% resist isn't nearly as strong as it sounds - it only really affects a few specific spell types (e.g. elemental damage is unaffected)
For minmaxing the actual best race is probably nord or dunmer for their innate resistances. Nord frost immunity means you can throw frost magic around with impunity and spam frost atronachs with 0 risk. Dunmer doesn't have innate fire immunity but it's easy to boost to 100% with constant effect items, and because it's not innate immunity blasting everything with fire usually still does damage while frost has more things that are immune to it

It works like that in oblivion onward (and is like the only way to actually make the game bearable on max difficulty there, as weakness to magic can make your spells and enchants hit very hard) but here it's mostly for stuff like damage x spells which usually aren't that strong from npc's

Buy yourself some heavy armour, get to Balmora and learn to summon a two-handed axe + bow. Boom. Easiest start in the entirety of TES series.

Breton has always been considered to be the OP'ed race, since at least Morrowind, they were OP in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. Oblivion got really bad with how a single item made you literally immune to any spell which doesn't bypass immunity (of which there are only a couple, like Sheogorath's teleport spell).

Dagoth's got a point about Dunmer, though -- these guys makes the best assassins, especially when you add vampirism into the mix. A 25% boost to Illusion spell power & detection avoidance while sneaking, 100% immunity to disease and frost AND all the powers that come with vampirism and the vampire lord form? That build is very, *very* OP when you put in the maximum amount of investment.
Breton under the apprentice sign kicks ass. All the upsides (a heap of magicka) and no downsides (weakness to magicka is basically neutralised)

What's not to love about mysterious lizard folk who can breathe water, are practically immune to disease, have an affinity for healing magic and light fingers and feet. I'm surprised how many people don't know how savage and voracious wood elves are.
Outside of their homeland of Valenwood, they really don't have a good reason to be cannibals. The Green Pact only applies to the Bosmer residing in Valenwood. The Bosmer aren't that bloodthirsty as a race directly because of the Green Pact. They know better. The Wild Hunt is pretty badass though.
I mean, skyrim's (since most played only it) south of the map is basically all wood elves territory, but for some ironic reason there is almost nothing about them, like they almost don't exist.

I've always tended to pick Dunmer in every Elder Scrolls game. They are great mix of magic and warrior skills and their world in Morrowind just blew my mind. My second choice is Argonian. Next Elder Scrolls game should be setted in Black Marsh and based on slave raids that Dunmers take on Argonians. It would be great setting in swamps and deep woods with Dunmer's raid parties chasing slaves all around and Argonian's guerilla resistance.

@@a_makarov They are a race of giant gorilla people, under the rule of the Thalmor in Valenwood. They mimic their masters ways (the Thalmor), with posture, mannerisms, etc. It's old lore, but haven't read anything about them in a while. There's also the silver humans the Kothringi of Black Marsh.
