  • In this video I'll cover the railway station of Cologne main station (Köln Hauptbahnhof) and I'll show you the ICE type 4, the newest ICE (Intercity Express) train you can find in Germany. I'm taking it all the way to Munich (München) in Bavaria (Bayern).

The Hauptbahnhof in Köln was my second most-visited station in Germany (Frankfurt Hbf was first). I would most often arrive from Frankfurt via ICE or Paris via Thalys. I remember that the high speed track betwen Frankfurt and Köln was BORING, a lot of it lined by sound barriers. This was 20 years ago, so things may have changed.

This Train has an amazing Interior, very modern and beautiful. Just love the dynamic lighting. And wayy better than the TGVs.

ICE 4 has no active tilting technology. Only the ICE T does

I'm impressed by the space for luggages, there are many racks, it's very good when it's crowded..

These trains are really good. Also the top speed is not 300 km per hour but because they can accelerate really fast, because trains in Germany do stop more often than in France in the high seed network, this is actually pretty fine. And besides that, distances in Germany are not that big, for most distances the difference between 250 and 300 km per hour is only a couple of minutes (and it saves a lot of energy to go slower). Although I have to confess... I love speed.

It's the fifth biggest by travellers per day. The most frequented one is Hamburg main station, followed by Frankfurt/Main main station.

The long-version ICE4 trains are undergoing a software update at the moment and are now capable of a high speed of 265 km/h.

Ooohh really, thanks for letting me know.
I still have a video (already completed for editing, can't change it because my editing software crashed later on) on a ICE4 from Switzerland to Germany where I'm saying 250 km/h. Well in total tracel time between most places the advantage of 15 km per hour faster is very minimal though. I think saving a lot of energy and arrive 30 seconds later should also be fine.

Dat zou inderdaad wel mooi zijn. Snap het ook wel, ramen zijn best zwaar en hiermee is de trein zuiniger maar panorama ramen zoals in de 1e ice, zijn wel heel tof.
