Can we appreciate the fact that the actor for Tommy in the show did a phenomenal job replicating Game Tommy
Tommy was blonde
There's so much more affection and love in the series between Tommy and Joel. Adds so much more emotion and weight to his character for the next part of the story.
@@eseelchatel8926 yes the most important facet of performance, hair colour. also tommy is not blonde.
Dude the voice for me, was spot ON. I thought he was the original voice actor.
Cant wait to see his performance in the 2nd season
I liked how Sam was aged down slightly to be a few years younger than Ellie. The dynamic in the show was more Brother/Sister and when the scared little child asked Ellie if it’s still you inside it broke my heart for such a young kid to go through that
The video game acting somehow feels much more real than the real actors.
There is something about neutral acting that makes the viewers more emotional. That’s what Bresson said.
Part of the reason is you are controlling one of the actors.
even though a lot of the dialogue and acting in the game is overexaggerated
Someone finally gets it instead of being complete sheep
It's easier to perfect the green screen over live action. The live actors have it much harder. Also Bella is very young. she did amazing under those conditions.
Pedro Pascal is a hell of an actor. Watched his films since Narcos series. I see more of a human character in the show because we ARE seeing human actors and it is more realistic. But I finished the game in 2017 on PS-4 and it felt like I was attached to the characters, too. The most outstanding game i ever played.
First let me say, I really liked Bella Ramsey's "Ellie" and I think she's a fantastic young actor. Also, I've played both games (and the DLC) multiple, multiple times in the last 10 years. Within minutes of watching this side by side comparison it shows just how epic Ashley Johnson's performance was. I loved her as Ellie before this, but now I have another level of respect and awareness for what Ashley brought to her "Ellie".
Again, I thought Bella was great in the show, it totally worked for me, and I think she is very talented.
This comparison video just put it front and center for me with regards to game Ellie vs live-action Ellie. Ashely Johnson and the dialogue script from the game is just on another level, for me anyway.
That's so interesting. As someone who hasn't played the game but came here after watching the show a second time, I've found myself thinking "Ashley's really great in this role and her vocal performance is awesome, but I think Bella really made the role her own and improved some of the material." Now obviously, I'm coming with a limited scope as I haven't played and am just judging based on these clips out of context, I get that.
My opinion might change whenever I do get around to playing the game. But just looking at it from the other side, after having seen people for the past year seeing Bella's casting and worrying she wouldn't be able to bring out Ellie the way Ashley did (and again, I'm not saying Ashley did bad or anything, she's obviously amazing), there have been quite a few times throughout this video where I'm looking at the comparisons and thinking that Bella did it better.
This is all one-sided though since I haven't played the game. I think the best actor was cast for each medium that the story has been told in overall. There might be a bias since I experienced the story through the show first, but both actors were phenomenal in the role, and I'm really excited to see the next iteration of this story!
I honestly thought Bella did better playing a 14 year old than Ashley, and I was a fan of the games long before the TV show came out. However, I will forever love Troy’s Joel over Pedro’s simply because game Joel was more kind and empathetic to Ellie right off the bat whereas TV Joel was so broken that he distanced himself until his empathy was forced out of him.
Them's fightin' words >:O@@roryqpotter8242
@@ethanp1348I like how you’re thinking. Personally, I came into the series back to back. I played the games and then immediately went into the show afterwards. I was someone who was worried that Bella wouldn’t bring the same wit and sass that Ashley did but I was quickly proven wrong. I do still prefer Ashley’s take but I do really like that Bella stayed true to the character while still making it her own. I’m really excited for how she’s gonna do in season two and for the show overall. I do highly recommend playing the games, though. They’re super fun 😋
@@roryqpotter8242bella did awful
Must say the actors did great job in both game and show equally. I loved the effort and hard work they put in. I hope they do good casting for Abby for next season.
It's totally beyond the curse "series from the games always suck"
It's best on both game and series version with no doubt.
you can tell how in the first couple of live action scenes they got rid of the jokes that tommy and joel made to stress the viewer out more
Who else feels a lot of emotion toward the game, but not the show, despite it almost being shot for shot?
me. I didnt feel much when Sarah died in the show. The tone in the voice acting was better in the game and made it more emotional. Also the show lacked any action, had a bunch of plot holes, and their characteristics werent as interesting as in the game. Joel in the game was tough, driven and strong. In the game he took down 30 something men before falling off the second floor and being impaled by a piece of metal sticking up from the ground, then limped to his horse. In the show he got taken down by 1 guy with a broken wooden bat...🤨 If u lived for 20 years in in apocalypse, yet get taken down by a single dude with a bat... maybe you shoulda gone out the moment the apocalypse hit.
It's because it's crap
Joel's character journey is more personal in the show, making it better.
Not making the whole show better but just his character arc
The acting in the game is so much better
Right! Loved the show but Joel and Ellie were so flat in their acting
Specifically from Joel and Ellie. Pedro pascal genuinely sounded bored half the time when delivering his lines and Bella Ramsey just didn’t have the acting range the portray a character like Ellie. The only thing she was convincing at was yelling and screaming lol. Everything else fell flat from her in my opinion.
@@theatricalityanddeceptionwell said tbh
i love these videos! thank you so much I'm a big fan 😛
im probably a bigger fan tbh
@@sofiapodszus635 no me
They couldn't have made a better choice with Joel and Ellie for the show. It's unfathomably good, their acting.
Nobody’s talking about how good Teas did
The last episode felt like a carbon copy of the video game and it was pretty fantastic none the less lol
Carbon copy how when parts were missing 🤔
@@JOEYZ-nq2gn Yeah parts that were not important to the overall plot, like the tunnels
@@phaex2288 do you know what carbon copy means ?

a lot of work went into this, awesome ty!
I don't know who you are but, u did a hell of a job. Thank you so much
Look the show is amazing but I still can’t get over the cast they could’ve done better but it is what it is
That's how you adapted, the source material is right there, follow it and don't mess up everything, but I gotta thank the witcher's showrunner, cause of that mess I finally decided to try the game and it was awesome!
This just proves how great the series is and of course how masterpiece the game is. ❤️ They all nailed it.
Tommy reunion was the best , better than the game , it's so much more emotional than in the game , u can see Joel and Tommy having such emotional on their face and voice instead of the game like they almost cry , the game did it like just for the plot , but the movie is on the whole different level
Since i have heard so much negative opinions about the show, i didnt had any expectations. And i was positively surprised. I would say it was a good tv show, not very good or phenomenal, but good. The show made some very good decisions, like the first scene with only 2 clickers. They also explain some things better than the game. That made them feel much more dangerous than in the game. I also liked the actors. I dont know if other actors would even be better, but i think the amount of critics on the 2 main actors is totally out of context.
As someone who played the game i have to say though, that it takes a lot of fun out of the watch when you already know how the story progresses. Its more like "how have they done it in the show". So i got a little bored at the end. Its no comparision to the intensity of the game, which is really awesome and an absolute blast. I really think they have made the best zombies ever (whatever that means, lol).
If you havent watched the show or played the game, go for the game! Part 1 is pretty cheap now. Its an amazing experience you wont forget.
I don’t judge a book by its cover but everyone just looks so different to me. The acting is amazing though
She would make a better clicker they should've picked someone else for Ellie but aye if you say the acting is great then that's all that matters
@@noincomprehensible3849 Yeah, I would’ve liked a more Texan accent too in Ellie
Only flaw with this series is that some characters don’t look that much like the characters in the game version HOWEVER the acting is great and it makes up for it because the show still feels like last of us, even the way this Joel and Ellie are with eachother.
Heard there’s a season 2 coming and if it follows the last of us 2 story well.. fk.
I still can't watch the death of Sarah without Crying
who's watching this because the season just ended?
Side by side tho.. I guess we have 2 different definitions on that neaning
A lot of Naughty Dog’s games hold a special place in my heart, in no small part to the writing, direction, and the actors. Like, the performances are sooooo good.
Show adaptation was great. But the game performances man.
Honestly I wish they removed some of the music in the Prologue scenes. Like in the game, until Sarah decided to eat bullets as a substitute for missing out on Joel's cake, its really grounded and realistic. Also, like bro. We're in some rural town. Theres no fucking way a commercial AIRLINER just **happens** to crash directly down the center of a road. LIke come on bro, this isn't a blockbuster. Also Also, the town scenes before the crash just need to tone it down. With music drums beating and all this, its not as subtely scary as what would (Probably) happen to a town if this sort of thing happened. +theres way too many people. And Sarah's and Joel's reactions are WAY less dramatic in the game, which really puts on how this is a man who just lost the love of his life, theres no screaming, just quiet holding of his dead daughter (and you can hear how desperate he is in his voice. Christ dude, the OG actors were FANTASTIC. The show ones do what they've been given but kinda fall short on the game.). Ok my rant is now over.
11:52 30 years old voice on a little kid, bruh 😂
not really his voice sounds normal for someone about his age
What's the point of watching the live action thing of literally the same thing you played...
I like how they copied words from the game and not lol
Personally didn't like the show. It felt like everyone either lacked emotion like tommy when Sarah was dying, just kinda standing there doing nothing, or was too emotional. And Joel was a lot weaker than his game counterpart. Idk
I agree. And the show had soooooooo many plotholes. I practically screamed "The game did it better" at least 30 times an episode
❤️
Was it so difficult for him to keep at least Sarah?
I'm definitely going to miss season 1 but can't wait for season 2.
looking for casting call for season 2 rn

i like the game but it deserved a show to add a bit more to the story and characters and the life action show fully succeeded in my opinion. i like the changes they have made. peole can dislike bella ramsey as ellie as much as they want but she did a great job
I drew this scene❤️❤️❤️😚
Where is the drawing?
There are multiple scenes, you need to be more specific
I wish the series wasn’t afraid to make Joel the cold stoic bad ass that we had in the game. They were afraid he’d come across as a “toxic” and “controlling” male… but they forget that he’s only that way in the game because of the world he’s grown accustomed to, but more importantly: the loss of his soul (being his Daughter), and the loss of his heart (being Tess). It was a wall he put up that Ellie was able to break down piece by piece. It emphasized just how much she meant to him (and to us as the players) by the climax, which added to the complexity of his decision at the end of the game. Series Joel was hollow, weak, and an emotional wreck which could work if it was an original character that wasn’t already depicted as the exact opposite of that.
As for Ellie. I liked Bella’s performance. She’s very talented, and I think she’ll go far… but her Ellie was NOT the Ellie from the game. Ashley’s Ellie was adorable, sweet, fun, bad ass, fearful but brave, and selfless. Bella’s was condescending, mean, short tempered, stoic, bad ass, somewhat arrogant, but low key a nice person… they’re just not the same. Ashley’s Ellie feels like someone you want to connect with. She’s someone you actually feel protective over, even though she’s a fictional character. I never got that with Bella’s Ellie. Ashley poured her very soul into every performance (VA and MC). You felt the punch when she was emotional or in danger…
Bella seemed kinda pissed the entire series. I’m sure it was done to “empower” her… and make her more “bad ass”, “mysterious”, and “stoic”… but what they forget is that emotion can be used quite powerfully.. it surly worked for the game, why couldn’t they replicate that for the series?
In the series:
Sarah’s death was great, but not soul shattering like the game. Tess’ death was… weird and almost artsy rather than simple and powerful like the game. Sam and Henry’s deaths (potentially the saddest part of the game) wasn’t nearly as devastating as the game… it actually felt rushed in the series. Joel and Ellie’s argument felt flat and forced. Their reconciliation (which was tender and meaningful in the game) was cut short for a cheap joke in the series. Joel saving Ellie was framed more like a boarder line psychopath in the series instead of the desperate emotional father in the game. The game will ALWAYS be a masterpiece, and the series is great in many ways… but it won’t live nearly as long as the game, and that’s ok.
I agree that their relationship developing was much more satisfying in the game than it is in the show due to how closed off and disinterested Joel was in Ellie, initially. By making Joel more vulnerable and open early on in the show, their relationship in the end was less meaningful. The game was a lot more subtle and therefor effective in packing a punch when necessary.
Sarahs scream in game ❤ sarahs scram in movie 😂😂😂😂😂 no hate
Haven't seen the infectors for centuries. That is ridiculous.
The game is amazing. The show rewards those who’ve played the games with context that doesn’t fundamentally change the heart of the game.
It isn’t “woke-ified” or trash like the Uncharted movie.
Fan service for the players, and exciting new adventures for new viewers.
Well worth the watch, whether or not you’re familiar to the game.
And make sure you have a box of tissues nearby.
The line delivery was horrible
You can’t get this with arcane and cyberpunk edgerunner
well league and cyberpunk just has a world and arcane and edgerunners are just being placed in that world. its not like they follow any kind of storyline
and this is a live action while arcane and edgerunners are animation
@@fumetsu-950 well, I hope they make a video game or manga adaptation of the two
@@fumetsu-950 ok
I love the game, but man, the show made it far better in my opinion. Sarah, the whole Henry and Sam, the reason Joel wants Tommy to take Ellie instead, somehow the characters feel more vulnerable and human. Don't mean to disrespect nobody, but Craig Mazin took this story to a new level. There are things in the game that I like more, but overall the show is an improvement.
Honestly I think the change in medium just makes everything more intimate and human if that makes sense.
I do agree though the changes the show runners have made have all been great and have elevated this story beyond what it was in the game, with a fraction of the time to do it. Bravo to everyone involved.
Hell. Fucking. No
No the show suckss
My GOD they stayed so true to the game
They nailed Riley.
I like Henry's death in the TV show better, I didn't like him blaming Joel and Ellie for what happened to Sam.
In the game, he was talking to himself.
"Henry what have you done? It's all your fault"
He points the gun at Joel to keep Joel _away from him_
@@Hadgerz agreed, a monologue of himself.
He is blaming himself not Joel. I really felt the loss of Tess Henry Sam…they were well captured and the loses were so sudden.
he blamed himself
This is a show for a game done exactly right. They only really took out some of the fighting (that would’ve made it too action packed for a show, but would’ve been boring without for the game) and everything else was practically spot on. If only The Witcher did this. Here’s to more great games being brought to our TV screens! 🙌🏻
I don’t really care that they changed the races of the characters. I will say though, Pedro Pascal might be my favorite actor ever. He kills every role he plays.
the show was butt i feel they didnt do the game right. they should have keep it the same and not added extra parts or change anything
Its called improvement. It didnt change the tone.
Nikolaj coster waldau should have Joel and the game is better than the show
You can already tell from the first episodes, they jump through Season 1 like jumping a plinto and ignore alot of scene. The show has some good scenes that feel like the game but others, they just feel there but without any emotion. People keep saying Bella Ramsay is perfect for Ellie but she looks nothing like her in the show or the personality is the same since Show Ellie comes off has weird or alot of argumentative.
Game Ellie is most beautiful then tv show Ellie 😂
"most beautiful" and shes made of pixels and 14. bella ramsey was better than over 100 girls who auditioned, and ashley johnson herself saw her and knew she was the best choice
If you want a carbon copy of Ellie, just look for Cosplayers.
in game ellie is a 14 year old girl... yikes
ellie in tv show is fat so they did a wrong choice
Ok EDP445 💀
I stopped watching the show because I can't with the Bella's Ellie. I don't care about the looks, but is so cocky and annoying, feels like a psycho always with a bad actitud, is so different from the Ellie from the game.
Damn. Bella was spot-on, wasn't she?
The game is soooo much better.
why does nobody else see that? The show is so praised but the game was way better. The show had so many plotholes.
@@siderealfate3827 unfortunately most people don’t realize that video game can be as deep as, if not more profound than, traditional art form like movies and tv shows.
@@shuraowen For real. They praise the show for "fleshing out" side characters and ignore the plot holes the show has added. Sarah for example comes from school and goes to fix the watch. Theres police sirens and shops close early, foreshadowing something big is happening. She goes home and gives joel the watch etc, he leaves while she sleeps, she wakes up to find Joel gone and theres a report on the news. Now lets assume she came from school at 2 pm, there were police indicating the violent behaviour was already present in the infected and they intervened. Sarah maybe gave joel his watch at 7 pm when he came home, then she slept. The clock showed 2 am when she woke up, and on the tv it showed stay inside. Her stupid self then goes outside despite the warning on tv. So tell me: If the apocalypse was happening at 2pm when she came from school, why did it take the government 12 hours to warn its citizens? The media is not that slow in real life. Joel and Sarah watched tv at 7pm anf there was no news broadcast saying anything! I dunno if anyone noticed these plot holes but it felt like watching a bad horror movie where i want to characters to die for being so dumb
is HBO the new NETFLIX?
Nada a ver essa ellie
Now if Sony can do exactly this for God of War

This is such a disappointment.
So they just completely copied the game gotcha!
Can’t lie, the show had its moments but I couldn’t get through season 1. The game is just way better in many ways.
Agreed, I just think the show tried certain changes that didn’t work like the whole change with Bill, whole episode dedicating to a story that didn’t progress anything for Ellie and Joel, as well as making Sam deaf and other minor changes
Joel's way of running in the game looks a bit gay to me. Especially when he runs backwards.
How can running look “gay?”
Fellas, is it gay to run normally?
Iy will be good if in 2nd season Joel will be gay
What?

Love the games, the tv series was ok. It has awesome moments but also boring fillers that have nothing to do with the game. I cared for ellie in the game but ellie in the tv show does nothing. Dont rip my head of its just my personal opinion
You don't care about the Ellie from the show because is an annoying character, cocky, with bad actitud, sometimes like a psycho, the oposite of the game's Ellie.
1:01:10 this moment pretty much sums up why the game is so much better than the show. Pedro Pascal sounds so bored in his line delivery
I think you all liked this show only because you already played the game. If none of you ever played the game and forcefully watched it to the end, it would look like a really boring, poorly casted series.
Actually i think those who like the show never played the game. I played the game but the show disappointed me sooooo much. Like the only good episode in the show was still not as good as the game. And dont get me started on the dozens of plotholes
It's the opposite for me. I liked the show more before playing the game. After playing it, not so much. I still think it's not all that bad for a game adaptation, unlike what we usually get. Casting for Ellie is just wrong though.
So, there were only two important things to do when shooting this series. Joel and Ellie. "The scenario etc." the basics are in the game already, there is nothing to think about. There are only two important characters, joel is ok, but Ellie is not even close. Instead of finding an actress who look like Ellie, trying to find how we can not compare them specifically... This is not just a series, there may be really good actors, but if I am playing with Ken in the "street fighter", character in a game, you sould make this series with someone who looks like him for me. It's great. You can't say "he performs very well, so we replace Ken character with a Zangief-looking actor. It's the worst production I've ever seen in my life about comparing the main characters to the game. Bella Ramsey is a really good actor. But not for Last of us' Ellie.
Pedro delivers his lines with zero emotion, absolutely no weight behind anything he says.
Pedro is a very chill person, he's not very intense. He lacks Joel's roughness. But people seem to love him.
@@norijean3279 some people don't want too say anything bad about this show because they want so badly for there to be a good video game adaptation, no one wants to admit this show had problems and the casting of Joel was one of those problems.......
@@nathandrake9129 The other problem is how they reduced the amount of action/horror sequences in favor of drama and "storytelling". But yes, they want game fans to like it, as well as non-horror audiences, and critics. They go for universal appeal.
The world is different to how it was back in 2013. The demographics this show panders to need their political biases confirmed more than they need the actors to outperform those who featured in the video game, and the people who are desperate for a good video game to TV adaptation will overlook the inferior performances and call it perfect regardless.
True. The show is a good adaptation but it is just not on the same level as the game. A lot of scenes did not hit me as hard as the game does.
