    After you see the entire cinematic, you will realise: The soldier who killed Sarah actually killed the last hope of the entire human race with that shot. If Sarah was not taken by this brutal scene, Joel might never have met Ellie. Even if they reached the same haven with ellie, Joel would not reacting the same as "Fuck this world for trying taking the last thing I live for, I don't care!"

    • @sujitbala1492
      @sujitbala1492 Pƙed rokem +51

      I don’t think that’s how it would’ve worked, Joel was the only one capable to transport Ellie, fireflies wouldn’t have gone far given how the 6 man team specifically to transport Ellie were shitted in the Boston Capitol Building, Joel randomly comes along and says ok I’ll do it. Besides, the bond between Joel and Ellie is what kept them going so far anyways, that’s the significance of the game

    • @BeeBopBo
      @BeeBopBo Pƙed rokem +34

      good point but i have to disagree for 2 reasons:
      1) joel's skills and relationship with ellie were essential in transporiting ellie to the hospital
      2.) creating a cure wouldve been pretty much impossible and ellie wouldve died for nothing anyways

    • @alanwalker3915
      @alanwalker3915 Pƙed 7 měsĂci +8

      Don't you mean, The soldier who killed Sarah actually "saved" the last hope of the entire human race. Joel met and saw Ellie as a surrogate daughter, this is why he (a) protected her so much and (b) would not let her be scarified at the end. Or are you saying that if Sarah lived, Joel would not have cared so much about Ellie, and let her die under surgery at the end because he was not emotionally invested in her future? Sorry if I have misunderstood your post, I am not trying to start an argument, I just am not sure what you are saying.

    For me, the saddest deaths were Henry and Sam. Henry shooting his own brother, then the sadness and fear in his voice at what he'd done. And then he shoots himself. Even more than Sarah's death, those hit me a bit harder. Henry knew it had to be done, but he didn't want Joel to do it. But then he couldn't live with himself for having done it.

    This is probably the definitive "movie" I'll go to when I wanna re-watch the story for The Last of Us. The updated visuals and changes are overall better and this version goes through the effort to include not just the cutscenes, but also the semi-cutscenes, and key game play moments that involve the story without padding the runtime with just action that has no relavence to the story.

      @Ed M Never played the game, but I've seen reviews about them (and how they ruined things in the following installments), and now that I'm watching this, I see clues in the first game that they were heading in the direction that they took it for the sequels.
      The okie doke look like it was planned from the beginning. But they started out with good story to draw people in.
      But about the ending, I think she's wanting confirmation that she's not just waiting to end up like every other cauliflower zombie and that they didn't waste all the effort they went through. But the real dilemma is whether or not to let her know that she had to sacrifice her own life in order to do it would put an extremely heavy burden of guilt on her for possibly feeling selfish for preserving herself, or feeling even more grief for having to leave the only person left that she felt safe around.

    • @gregorylagrange
      @gregorylagrange Pƙed rokem +6

      @Ed M That's what I was talking about. And what I found out in the reviews of the following games.
      What I saw in this compilation video was Joel getting attacked and needing mostly female characters bail him out (other than the girl). The man he went to ask for a car from, he talked about losing a "partner". He didn't say friend. And when he reached the compound, his brother said his wife runs the compound.
      Those all came off as clues that the agendas were on their way from the first episode. I think they used the first game to ease it in because they knew it would flop to come out so obvious with it.
      Like what happens with movies. They don't try starting out that way. They always seek to change what the audience has already proven what they like.

      I think vaccine is a weird way of putting it but what I understood was that you can only get infected with cordyceps once amd the fungus prevents any subsequent infection because that would just be competition. Since the mutant version that infected Ellie was not pathogenic, she was basically immune. So all they would have to do is extract this variant and find a way to make it infect other people. So functionally a vaccine, but not in the sense of having anything to do with our immune system.
