  • In this video I go through the process that I took to diagnose a faulty pcm on to a 2014 kia sorento(3.3L GDI) This process in universal. It only included using a scan tool/wiring diagram and basic hand tools..

    So glad I saw this, literally had the exact same issue happen to a 15 sorento, my diag took me to the pcm but I'm always so hesitant to call a pcm.

    EXCELLENT VIDEO,THANKS FOR POSTING!!. I'm searching for info for my buddy's '15 sorento because his car has an intermittent crank with no start, and intermittent stall that his dealership can not figure out

      Glad I could help. Step one: Scan For dtcs.(use as a guide and not a root cause)
      Step 2: Search for tsbs
      Step 3: You will need to reproduce the concern.
      Step 4: while you are reproducing the concern do research on Dtc's. this will let you know which direction you will be taking in diagnosising the fault.
      step 5 begin testing.

      yes I have, il show in a followup video.. the fact that there was no control from the pcm due to the lack of power leading to the pcm( in my opinion rules out a 5v reference problem.. now in the first part of the video I show that the pcm was not detected on the network.. then when I added a ground control to the main realy the pcm was detected was still not able to communicate. All powers and grounds to the pcm were verified there was still no communication with the pcm and the 5v ref was still down..... now if you look closely at the voltages the MV readings do change as I cycle the key.. In my experience the reading on the meter would have been a a lot closer to zero..

    My PCM is damaged, I bought a new PCM, how do I program it to the vehicle, and which machine (tools) is suitable for this job?

      there are a few ways to program the pcm( on key vehicles it has to be NEW not used) then you need a scan tool that has the capabilities to do so, or you can use the online software wit a jbox to program it.

    Can a used pcm be programmed? I have this same scenario in my shop right now.

      yes it can. you need to reset the immo and reset the pcm using special functions then reprogram the keys to the vehicle
      , but the vin will remain in the donner pcm, only by cloning or doing this process can the vin be changed/transfered

      I was unsuccessful trying that with my Autel. It just keeps telling me the vin os already written.​@JLsAutoSolution

      @@peterbartley1854 you cannot rewrite the vin on a used ECU they are one time writes then locked(on Kia/Hyundai) you need to manually change the vin or have the original ECU cloned.

      @@peterbartley1854 yes. If you have a 908/909/919 mk906/mk908(ibelieve or higher) it can do this process. Enter into immo section and perform ECU reset, you then need to reprogram the key to the ECU, you will need the pin code for the vehicle in order to complete the key learning process( if your are in the USA please check if the vehicle is equipped with an immo system)

      Thanks Dave.. yes it is always difficult to call a pcm. this car came from a little shop and told the client all he needed was a key programmed, lets just say he wasnt to impressed when we told him the pcm was needed..

      Nice work Jeremy. Would it make sense to check CAN H&L at the PCM connector? I realize you would not be able to distinguish PCM chat from all the other modules on the bus, but it would confirm wiring integrity. Wouldn’t it? Not sure...Is the shop close to Dorval (YUL) airport ? Cheers Pal...P.S Nearly at a Grand on yer Subs...Congratulations 👍

      @@TheGibby3340 hey ian.. Ic i had a 5v ref comming from the pcm, inwould have weny on that direction next.. But since there was no comm and no 5v ref. The pcm is basicle a brick at that point. And iam right next to yul lol.. thank you..

    Test ECM ground circuit : Measure resistance between ECM and chassis ground using the backside of ECM harness connector as ECM side check point. If the problem is found, repair it.
    Specification: Below 1Ω please help me with me with this one
