I don't know exactly why, but Mikasa has the capacity to travel between "paralel worlds or timelines" and chapter 138 and the Lost Girls OVA is a confirmation ot that affair. In ch 138 she "dreams" of the cabin timeline because eren death is unstoppable (or planned by Eren) in the original manga world,. In the OVA, she thinks that Eren is already dead in the battle of Trost, and when she sees the pomegranate in the floor (probably a representation of the multiple worlds) she starts dreaming of another world where the kiddnappers that killed her parents are dead, thanks to wild dogs. Even in this parallel world, she is unable to save Eren and we have that interesting conversation with the Mirror man, that literally confirms she can not save Eren because Eren is death itself or is ingrained in him.
@@Johan590 Isayama supervised Lost Girls as well as the other OVA's, I wouldn't quickly dismiss them. I'm not saying that she can manipulate reality to her will or w.e. like the OVA implies. There was an implied timeline reset through Mikasa's memories, was pretty clear in the anime final chapters at least, especially with them adding the "See you later" in the first chapter, kind of hammering in that concept.
Ackermans cannot be manipulated by the founder titan, either by erasing memories or memory manipulation. Eren couldn’t have manipulated Mikasa’s memories into a what if scenario because ackermans are immune to this. This means the cabin is an alternate storyline/timeline that DID happen. The cabin can’t be in paths because perception of time is blurry, whereas Eren didn’t have any problem saying that 4 years have passed since they escaped. In summary, different timelines with different outcomes exist, future will change again.
