Kahr CM9 Gritty Triger Fix

- So I had the gritty trigger problem with this Kahr Cm9 and took the time to figure it out, so hopefully if anyone else has this problem they now know how to fix it. Should hold true of any of the Kahr Firearms the way they go together. So good luck and hope this helped someone.

Thanks for the video! My CM9 was both gritty and a jam-a-matic. Dropped the complete slide into the ultrasonic cleaner at work and a whole bunch of metal chips washed out of that little pistola. That was 12 years ago and it has yet to experience a single malfunction after the bath. It is also one of the most accurate pistols I have ever shot.

Excellent video with very clear steps.
Excellent video on slide disassembly/reassembly of the Kahr slide. No wonder Kahr doesn't tell you how to do this as you have been very detailed about the process. I have a number of Kahr pistols and like them very much so now I feel confident I can take the slide apart and slick up the striker channel and lube as necessary. Good job!
Not hard once you know how, just get a good piece of wire and make that tool. it helps a lot. Thanks for watching

Kahr needs to take a good look at their competition! Most of their competitors are turning out guns of very high quality at very reasonable prices. Time for Kahr to up their game or get out of the business.
I like that innovative music wire tool, especially the way you cut it longer to hook on the battery side and become hands-free. It is much better than using picks and screw drivers. If you flatten the portion that retains the striker spring to resemble a screw driver tip it should work even better. 👍

Does anyone out there know anything about the Kahr PM 40 may get one but can that small frame handle a 40 caliber round over years of use seems to small for that kind of power

Had the old K9 in Nickel . . . stolen and replaced it with the PM9. The CM probably didn't get the full finishing treatment, deburring, etc. Nice video, good work.

I agree it should by but they are a production gun. I just did it my way, call them and give it a try. I do fine tune my target guns way more, carry guns you have to be careful of what you do. Good luck.

I have a PM9 coming in about a week and have been binging on YT videos about Kahrs. There is a some good info here and a well explained process but with a production flaw. You move the gun and parts around way too much and your fingers/hands cover up what you're talking about almost 1/2 the time. I know this sounds negative and I am sorry, I don't mean it that way. This is really valuable. It's just a little hard to watch.
Excellent idea. I have the same porcelain knife sharpener rod, and used it to smooth the striker bore of my CW9. Now I need to smooth the extractor bore as well. Oops! Where did that darn striker spring land?

Greatly Appreciated vid , Can't wait to clean up the bore and striker on my pm9. Its gonna lighten the pull by about a pound and make it smoother and even help reduce wear and tear on the axis's of some of the other trigger parts. A vid on the disassembly of the lower trigger parts would be the Cherry on top...
Good luck cleaning the striker bore really helped mine. I did have the lower trigger assembly apart once and don’t how I got it back together. Haven’t found any diagrams on the trigger, a lot of the poly gun family are hard to work the lower. With the exception of Glocks
MCARBO makes a trigger spring kit that will reduce the pull weight to about 3 1/2 to 4 pounds which is not to light for self defense. Worked in the 380acp also.
I did this to get out the gritty feel of the trigger, the pull is still stock. Over 5 lbs., nice small carry piece

I suppose you could glue on a piece of 2000 grit paper on a rod and try that but the porcelain rod I feel is the best. Nice video, before I begin a teardown of weapons, may be a matter of cleaning and lubrication chemicals, not all the same even if a label says so. Firearms need a better oil. Rem-Oil by Remington, Sprays away the gunk that causes trigger and slide grittiness, I use it as a lube on reassembly, that fixes that problem, usually it's not the parts, they operate at close tolerances and poor lubrication chemicals will fail, leading the user to make undue change affecting the close tolerances that may cause a sloppy feeling in that weapon, unless its it's been dropped or damaged, things can be solved by removing dirt and grime/old lube.
If its caused from wear or parts that are damaged then replace or retool the parts ?

Yes Charles you are correct it was the fine rod, I didn't have the medium rod or I may have tried that also.
i luv mine -14 ozs......weight like ruger lcr but smaller more powerful than 38spl.

Make sure you use music wire it won’t loose it’s shape and I did mine with 1/8 wire, good luck
Thanks. I bought a cm9 and cw380 and on both of them, if I dry fire the striker will remain extended until I manually retract it. I took the cm9 apart and found there is sort of dimple or bump on the side of the striker, maybe from production. Ill try filing that away and see if it helps. I must say, so far Im really disappointed with these guns and wouldnt buy another Kahr product. However, theyre mine now ans I made the major mistake of buying them and not trying them until the 1 year warranty was up. Duh...

Hi George, I made the strips from traction tape for stairs use the good 3M tape. It holds up good, just be careful when cleaning. The solvents can attack the tape, But I've had them on for a very long time.
so I've been running jhp in my p380. gun seems to have zero problems firing.. however, I noticed the gun bends the front end of my bullets when I slide one into the chamber. I marked two bullets and placed them in the mag so the mark sat at 12 o'clock, pulled the slide back like Kahr recommends, and pressed the slide release, both bullets bent at the 6 o'clock angle in relative terms of where I marked.. I'm sure this completely messes with my accuracy. any thoughts?
I really haven’t messed around with the 380, I know the can be finicky at times. Does it do it with all hollow points or just certain ones? It maybe a ammo issue. Mine is a CM9 and I went thru that also, I switched over to Federal HST and that solved my problems. They are small guns and a lot is happening in a short distance inside. I think that I would just live with the gritty_ness, IF I had the problem...but I don't.
What about the trigger????, mine has allot of gunk due to neglect. How should I clean it?
Now if it was me I’d use Hoppe’s 9 with a small brush and loosen the crud then spray it with non-chlorinated brake cleaner and make sure it’s non-chlorinated. If there is still crud in it repeat, now if you have a air compressor blow it out with air if not let dry. Then I’d shoot a little Rem-Oil in not to much and once again if you have a air compressor blow it out, if not dry up the excess oil best you can with Q-tips. Good luck

The "stick" is a ceramic.
Yes it is ceramic, it was from an old knife sharping system that had two rods and very smooth. I think that gives the best finish. I use ceramic stones for doing sear work on my 1911. I found them for someone else looking for them, I’ll give you the link and good luck

A person shouldn't have to go through all this crap with a gun. Kahr's are a Chinese POS weapon
