    Myself and a couple good friends who are hardcore fans and had been there from the beginning, still to this day say that we've seen a lot of fabulous artists pass on but still have a hard time dealing with Tom not being here anymore. His music and his band are a treasure, never to be forgotten.

      Oh, damn, man -- sorry to read that. I saw him twice on the: "Into The Great Wide Open" tour, and then the: "Wildflowers" tour. "ITGWO" was full of weird psychedelic sets, which was cool, but "Wildflowers" was a nice, stripped down stage of just the band, which was so much better.

    • @PotterSpurn1
      @PotterSpurn1 Před 5 lety +1

      Ugly? TP. You are joking, surely! I agree about the drugs though. It is what killed him, ultimately. He was using illegal Fentanyl mixed with other prescription meds to help ease pain from a hip joint fracture and he was a regular user of weed too - possibly other drugs too. You can tell the way he spoke that he was on something. His voice dragged - very slow and measured - which is a sure sign he was struggling to gather his thoughts and speak cogently. He sounded drunk too, sometimes, although I am not sure if he boozed all that much. He was also a very heavy smoker - a chain smoker really - and was suffering from Emphaesema toward the end of his life. If his CA hadn't killed him that would have - or lung cancer, possibly. Despite being a musically gifted person with very good personal qualities, he clearly didn't look after his physical health. He died young and could have lasted out lot longer if he had.

    Poor Tom was touring with a cracked hip so that he wouldn’t disappoint his fans by canceling. That’s why he had dangerous drugs on hand, and it’s all too easy to accidentally overdose through polypharmacy... folks forget what they took, and how much, and when. May Tom’s memory continue to endure as a blessing!

    I learned to really appreciate Tom Petty as I got older and learned to know what a truly good song writer and poet he was. Back in 1979 in my first band we learned to play REFUGEE and even though we sucked I am happy knowing we was open minded about songs we played. Tom brought millions of people happiness through his music. And his band are right up there giving them that sound. Never again....sad and gone too soon. Thank you Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. 🙏🏼❤️🎸🎼

In 1989 my son was less then year years old and I can remember when his sisters and other children all wanted to hear Ice Ice Baby over and over again. But not my son he would bring me Tom Petty's music cassette and say Petty please. It's something that we were able to record and to this day watch over and over again laughing so hard that we would cry. We both cried together when we heard of his passing.

We stood outside the garage for a long time before they opened the door and came out. My older brother was into music from a very early age and asked who they were and they said The Heartbreakers. Years later we put two and two together.
