Hannah Gadsby Sent a Legendary First Text to Emma Thompson
/ fallontonight - Komedie
If I sent a heartfelt text to Hannah and she responded with a picture of Chuck Norris... it would be the singularly most perfect text response I had ever received.
"I knew she wore a bonnett in something" hahaha
Best description ever. lol. I'd wager to say Emma would love it.
"I'm anti-social at the best of times" may be my next tattoo.
@C-2-RESH-18 KEK ah, so you're one of those people who dislikes certain people, then actively seeks out videos of those people to ruin everyone else's fun.
Middle school desk lookin ass
@C-2-RESH-18 KEK so am I, funny enough.
@C-2-RESH-18 KEK how so?
She meant a-social. Anti-social is when you shoot up a school. A-social is when you don’t like socializing.
“Melborn and edinborrow” it’s been 5 seconds Jimmy why have you already made me angry
Eh, better than "EdinBURG" :p
Check her out on Stephen colbet. He doesn't try to hide his bewilderment and lets Hanna run with it.
Yeah...twas fun to watch
Ah, she met Colbert. I can imagine that works a lot better. Thanks 👍
Btw. She plays a part in "please like me" on Netflix. Great series.
I think interviews are not her thing
@@harrynac6017 not a fan of josh thomas. I find him very annoying
Forget Colbert, check Hannah in like 2009-2012 on different "Melbourne Comedy Fests" or "Good News Week" where she started!
She had such a funny unique sense of humour even back then!
She gives off the same energy as Sandi Toksvig which is why I think I over the past 36 hours Hannah has become my new favourite comedian
I really want Hannah on QI 😂
I've been binging on videos of her being interviewed or performing. She's so charming and delightful.
@@EterPuralis She was there is a short clip on here.
Oh, I LOOOVE them both but that's a weird comparison lol!
I always thought Sandi gives off positive friendly vibes!
Hannah on the opposite is really autistic, which she is, lovely kind of awkward and sometimes almost unapologetically non-responsive.
Which makes her so unique and awesome.
@@EterPuralis hannah WAS on QI about a year ago! The episode about art. She was invited maybe because she's an art major.
She was not really entertaining though, because she admitted she's psychologically not good on heavily ad-libbed shows.
She's better at planned things.
I’ve followed her for a while. I loved her ‘high functioning autism’ story. My son is the same so it was very relatable for us :)
Ever since someone pointed out that Jimmy laughs hysterically at the most mundane things his guests say, I can't stop noticing it!
Audience: sensible chuckle
Jimmy: AAAAHAHAHAHA!!
jdprettynails He seems like a sweet guy but he’s the most uncomfortable, unnatural interviewer
jdprettynails O THANKS HEAPS. grrrr
jdprettynails saaame
I see it as a desire to make people feel comfortable and appreciated.
Which makes it very kind.
Well, it's the only interview where I actually agree with his laugh
“I need to express my idea through the metaphor of a nap.”
SAAAME. 🙌🏻🙋🏼♀️
Theres a Dr. named Bill Cosby that I want you to meet.
I take a nap everyday after the gruelling task of going to the store.
If you need a nap watch nanette
Hannah's mom: "AND NOW I'VE THROWN HIM OFF HIS RHYTM"
STREET SMARTS!!
i guess we know who she got her autism from
"Coffee cardigan" Let's make it a thing, people!
Coffee sleeve is already a term, I was yelling it at my screen!
Yes but it's not as awesome as coffee cardigan.
I certainly agree, cardigans are my favourite item of clothing.
I get all the cool old granny and grandpa cardies from opshops/thrift shops.
ChaingunCassidy but we have to pronounce it coh-fee cah-digin lol
People, lets not make it a "thing"
"I need to express my identity through the metaphor of nap " I using that.
Listen...everyone needs to hug and cry on Emma Thompson. I completely believe that to be true, that she pulled that much emotion out of Hannah with a hug.
I love this so much. I love when my favorite people circles collide. I WORSHIP Emma Thompson because she’s so badass, and I adore Hannah Gadsby. Thank you universe for bringing these two amazing people together. LOVE!!!
You need a psychologist. 🤡
"He'd be taller if he sat down" LMAO, her mum's a classic
Haha she sounds definitely funny. Autism is hereditary (her mom might be slightly on the spectrum but i dunno) and i think aussies (and NZ and Tasmania) have a funny sense of humor, her mom sounds great despite their difficulties. I'm glad she became friends with her mom.
Eta stuff i left out lol. 🥔 I'm autistic and i forget to clarify my sentences lmao.
Edit typo ffs autocorrect i need u
Edit ffs another typo
Nanette was outstanding. FINALLY something real! Important she tell her truth too! We need more of that very badly in the world rn. Shes a hero and a profound teacher to those underexperienced in life.
do u eat paint chips??????
She teaches how to be a hypocrite. First, she calls for men to "suck it up," yet when Dave Chappelle makes a joke about her, she loses her mind and can't distinguish between a comedian telling a joke and someone making hateful threats.
@@thecunt7444 you’re so hateful loool hope you’ve grown in the past year
WHO JUST LAUGHED?!
"she didn't watch it on TV because it represented 2 of her least favourite things: men who think they're funny and who shout" MEEEEEEEE
I've watched stand up comedy live and it was men who say offensive jokes peppered with the word "fuck" about 100 times and think they are clever and funny- I will never go again
@Frankie Basile says the guy with a car for his profile picture... so much taste and personality!
And she dislikes the jimmys
@@amandamfds good one man, sure showed him /s
Doesnt change the fact that she has a rating of 22% for her netflix special
John McSween I honestly think you might have an IQ under 95 and I don’t think anyone would probably be surprised by that.
The moment I realized that Hannah´s mom is equally autistic
... literally all she said was from the top of her head, nothing mean spirited.
Hannah just sums it up "She also cannot read a room".
aaaaaaaaaaaah!
Who else here has been a huuuge Hannah fan since like 2009?
When she was just a small local comedienne on Melbourne Comedy Fests and Good News Week?
And now she's here and there and everywhere!
Such a surreal but awesome feeling!
I wish I could've known her since 2009! Jealous :)
I'm not much for comedy because, yes, I can find it crass or I'm just not getting the jokes. But I found her show relatable with a strong message and loved it! I wish I had found out about her sooner and I am from Adelaide where the Fringe is on every year.
I have noticed though that there are a few too many comments about her gender. Why are people so hung up on whether she's a male or female? Or if she looks more masculine than your average female? Does it matter? Watch her show. Think about what she's trying to say and talk about it. Here's hoping for some awareness and acceptance of people's differences and to focus on the similarities instead.
It really doesn't matter, but this is the internet. Comment sections on youtube are always garbage.
I agree. But I felt annoyed enough to comment and not be a troll. I enjoyed your comments though. Thanks! :)
@@Sleeper250 Would you care to elaborate?
@@Sleeper250 *boom*
@@Sleeper250 i think you've missed the point of gadsby's show then... maybe watch it again?
It is my life goal to receive a text from Emma Thompson. Or a coffee cardigan would be fine too.

Nanette was so intense. It was so powerful, and I’m glad I took the time to watch it.
Except it wasnt funny
Yeah! Me too
True. I cringed so hard, I almost died - well, that, and its making me want to kill myself.
How much were you paid, Nick.... HOW MUCH?
Mel B: Y’all are so dramatic; it’s called personal preference. Everyone enjoys different things. I related to parts of her story, so I find her words powerful. It’s all pretty simple really.
i have loved Hannah for years as a fellow melbournian and i have always followed her but this blew my mind....im so so glad she is getting all this acclaim because this show was powerful and heartbreaking and a truth bomb...i hope the US audiences could understand her accent and get her sublety because she is genius...good job for having her on and giving her the exposure !
Luckily she talks so slow, as she mentioned in the other clip. She speaks with a lot of enunciation for an Aussie :P
andrea delves yes!
As an American, I found her to be really well-spoken and clear. She's wonderful, and the show was genius!
andrea delves I downloaded Nanette on Netflix, the only Netflix download I have. It resonated with me on so many levels. I even got my therapist to watch it!
it was powerful in many ways...i hope it helped you....be well :)
It makes me so proud as an Aussie to see her get so successful!
Aussie represent!! She has a typical laconic Aussie style. It was nice to hear in her other clip from the Tonight Show that she is going to be a hypocrite and keep going in some way rather than an idiot for quitting.
shes nothing like Glen Robbins, so.. nope shes rubbish
Get out of town. Her style is pretty similar to Glenn Robbins out of character.
Seriously? Do you know who I'm speaking of? Pretty sure I've never heard Glen play a trans women trying to score points with far-far-left people. If she made a special 10 years ago no one would care.
You are very offensive and just completely false.
And it seems you don't know who he is, as you don't even know how to spell his name correctly.
You can just tell how much she hates his fake laugh
It's only fake because she's so boring, he had to fake his interest
He's being polite, is laugh has to be fake, she's not funny

A lot of performers have anxiety.
she's autistic which might be the reason she doesn't feel comfortable with meeting people/hugging
Mike Campbell So true, a lot of performers are actually introverts too. David Bowie ... perfect example.
She has autism. There's a wonderful TED talk she does where she talks a bit about her past, her autism, and her grandmother's influence on her. I really admire her!
@@mrs.kuzminski1405 i lobed that TED talk. I'm a girl autistic too and i relate to her autism stuff. I also got diagnosed late and it was life changing.
If i ever received a text from Emma Thompson i would freak out for days.
Why?
Any other Aussies get the “have I got news for you” joke? 😂
What does it mean? Non aussie asking.
Talk about contrasting styles - Jimmy's slappy and endlessly laughing seal (which I love), vs. her micro-comedy where every glance, grimace, and word is a carefully curated part of the story 😂
haha brutal but true
though Hannah has definitely worked hard to hone her craft.
Never heard of this hannah guy before, is he like a rugby player in australia?

What a freaking epic woman. Love her and that special was incredibly amazing. So exciting to see her getting the recognition she deserves.

This series is soooo underrated
Israh Amandeep it made me cringe and cry and feel so many emotions it was incredible
I am definitely rewatching it
Nanette reminded me of the old Richard Pryor or George Carlin stand ups; the kind that made you think, made you feel, and also made you laugh. Great show!
Except for the laughing part. And that those guys were actual comedians with staying power. She's a one trick hack that will disappear into the aether like so many others before her.

@Musta Krackish Um wow you okay mate?
She's not quitting, I feel her career is about to take off in a big way...
finally! she is indeed an icon to me, what a queen. But I have to agree that she is not the funniest but she is adorable and likeable, I honestly enjoy listen to her just talking about small stuff.
Usually, I don't like it when Fallon cackles, but this time I was laughing just as hard right alongside him, so I think it's ok
Hannah gadsby at it again, I am loving seeing her being all famous it america I LOVE her. Im so proud honestly.
Jimmy Falons general reaction of giggles to this entire segment makes me so happy

I am proud to be an Aussie for the work we do in medicine, tech, drought relief, I could go on but will stop short of some comedian turning up on TV
what a lovely, witty and loveable person.

Hannah is amazing
Lol it's Mel-Bin Jimmy not Mel-Born.
So proud of Hannah.
JackieWarner13 Americans have a rhotic accent which means they always pronounce their ‘r’s, whereas Aussies and NZers don’t. So he kinda can’t help it, no Americans can
Sara Dickson I mean, it’s really not a big deal, but just for arguments sake, if he tried he could pronounce it correctly, I have heard Americans say it right (mel-bun) before ;)
Actually more like Melben or most Aussies pronounce Melbourne without any vowel between the b and the n. Like Melbn. No one in Australia says Melborn or Melborrrrrn like the Americans. We don’t really pronounce the R’s in many things. Like Cairns is just Cans but more like a z at the end. Canz :)
The point is, he should pronounce it the way it with the correct pronunciation for that city. I was surprised he wasn't corrected, and that he didn't already know.
And not all American accents are rhotic.
Lyndal McNulty I am from Melbourne hahaha I know
I adore you Hannah and I’d never ask you for a hug despite us both being palandromic in name.
Love watching your star rise Hannah! 💕
Love love love this lady
MEL-BIN!!! ED-IN-BRUH!!!!!!
Come on Jimmy, try harder.
omg said it for me
Mike Campbell j
j?
Melbourne is actually meant to be said that way, but us Aussies don’t want to drag a word out we changed it to Melbern. And sometimes we even drop the R. Melben lol
It's not that we don't want to drag the word out, it's because our accent is non-rhotic, which means the /r/ sound does not appear at the end of a syllable or immediately before a consonant
Thus, you get the phonetic spelling of Melbourne as /ˈmɛlbn̩/
Nanette was incredible. Can’t wait to see what she does in the future
Best first date story I've evr heard.
I love that she got so much press for quitting comedy and schooling everyone! It was such an opus and it actually f’ing worked!!
And now she isn't quitting, woohoo!!
Only works on FEMTARDS, SJW's and SNOWFLAKES
she didn't school anyone, she has a different form of comedy but tabloids make her out to be this messiah breaking down the world of comedy. She is merely another talent in a vast sea of talent, it's actually unfortunate that the media outlets are focusing on her in such a manner because we all know they will eventually turn on her. That is how they stay in business, by manipulating our entertainment into something that it is not. She is a comedian, nothing more, nothing less.
To The Max The only people I've ever seen having to resort to dehumanizing others by calling them snowflakes are the most snowflake weaklings in the universe. You're so weak you can't even stand the thought of anyone out there being different than you and seeing them as your equal, with equal value to you. It's pathetic, tragic, and makes me very sad for you.
Imagine the press she'll get if she ever starts comedy.
I've never heard of her before but I'm glad I saw this, she hilarous!!
