back in the 50's my grandpa was a greaser. my grandma used to tell me how he thought he was a badass driving around in his 36 ford and how he would ask her out to go dancing all the time. its pretty cool listening to them talk about the old days you can see their eyes light up. i kinda was a greaser back in the 90s as a teen but i didn't stick with it cause my dad hated the look. but i still love the greaser/rockabilly scene. keep up the great work, love the videos man.
Thx dude for sharing your story! Talking about the good ol days is perfect for brightening up a day. Glad you are still part of the scene... after all it's an American tradition!
Being a greaser in Australia is pretty hard, when you go to high school (there is no middle school in Australia) you have uniforms and normally I just make my uniform look rebellious, and being the only greaser in a school with 1000+ students in it, you dig? And you are my favourite cat on the internet. Keep it up. And don't turn square any time soon.
If you want to be rebel be a rebel ....
some old people called me a hood. it was kinda funny to be honest.
lol yes that is another old school term for greasers because back in the day that look was linked to hoodlums aka hoods so it makes sense that they would call you that.
I guess I’m a Double Greaser; A Mexican Rock n’ Roller.
I heard the term "greaser" when a river boat rich white folk was talking about, a Mexican American being a security guard to a golden watch .lol then the character when on talking about African Americans. Um rdr2 a trip.
haha love red dead, Yes it is also a rascist term for Mexicans but again its all about context.
Hey I'm a biker but I've never really looked at the biker thing as a greaser relation how does that connect
The WW2 era bikers were the ones that started the style that fast became known as the greaser look. The Hollister incident of 1947 was a prime example of that (which inspired the movie The wild one)
I’ve got Italian blood, and I’m a proud greaser! Rock on, brother!
Memphis native here. Musician, worked with Elvis, Carl, Jerry Lee.
The style I dress in is a mix of Rivethead, Metalhead, Goth and Greaser. I never stuck to a single style.
I am of Italian descent and never got offended being called a Greaser. I came from a family of fixers. My dad was a grease monkey for longer than I was around. I took it as a term of endearment. I loved old rock, I loved muscle cars and motercycles. Only natural I took up those styles.
I’m Italian in origin, and most of my dad’s side is as well mixed in with some Mexican and dutch plus German and no one in my family has ever complained about the word “greaser”
These videos are great dude
Thx cat!
you're my greaser dad now. too late, you can't say no. you're stuck into being my greaser dad
Zeppelin Lohnes lol
He's the greaser dad to all of us
@@crybabyhorror9484 Naw uncle madman sounds better, he's just that one good uncle
He's like Darry, but without the southern accent
*uncle madman lol
I'm not really sure why the rockabilly culture has been under scrutiny for supposedly being racist for not having many black followers or because some greasers might have a confederate flag belt buckle or tattoo. I've seen more Southern greasers with it and I am pretty certain it has no correlation with them being greasers, it's just a common thing because it's a sign of rebellion.
I've seen this one cat with a shit ton of tattoos on the internet named Teddy Boy Greg (I get teddy boys are slightly different than greasers but this cat was from California and was self-proclaimed rockabilly) who has a rebel flag tattooed in the back of his hand and unfortunately he was known to be antisemitic or just racist in general. Guys like him give rockabilly and greasers and teddy boys a bad name.
I've also seen a meme go around about rockabilly that called it "Fox News through a Wah-Pedal" or that it was an alt-right subculture or even that it was racist for glorifying Elvis (who for some reason has a bad rap of being allegedly racist despite history and black artists showing the latter). I think it's very unfair and plain ignorant.
I have never met a racist greaser in all my life. We have a respect for all races, let alone the fact rockabilly was influenced a lot by black musicians, Chuck Berry and many blues musicians nonetheless.
Agreed dude! Very well stated, sadly there are racists in every country, culture, and group. All we can do is stand by those who treat us right no matter of race, and stay away from people who mean us no damn good.

I love the rebell flag but it's a southern pride thing because I have a African American and I love the shot out of her
man its kinda the same with skinhead sub culture it started with jamacian music like ska rocksteady and early reggea
Really great that you covered all the bases. It's so easy to divert from the history of the use of the term "greaser" as a slur and pretend like it doesn't exist. So many people ignore stuff like that. Really cool that you brought it up, you continue to be a straight shootin dude
Nice video man. My dad being Mexican American, grew in Northern California as a teenager in the 70s. He didn’t dressed like a greaser like the way you described in this video, but he knew guys who were definitely greasers, one of them was of Italian descent, some Mexican and some were other of different ancestries. Overall, he tells me they were pretty cool guys and nice people towards him, they understand my dad didn’t want to apart of their lifestyle, which was alright. But like you said it depends on the context of the word and the way one uses it against certain people.
Yeah, Mexican Americans/Mexicans seem to love Rockabilly music and the 1950s so much, from what I’ve seen Mexicans and white people are basically what make up the modern lovers of Rockabilly
Wow! I learned a lot just from this video. Thanks for the info kryptic.
Thx dude glad you enjoyed!
hey buddy! your channel is amazing, keep doin the good work! greetings from Brazil
Thx cat!
Excellent channel! Old school greaser skin here. Keep it up

I’m Mexican American, back when I had hair we greased it with Tres Flores, we were Cholos. Similar to Greasers, except we didn’t wear leather bc we couldn’t afford it, . Im still a Cholo but now I can afford leather boots, vest, jacket and Harley Davidson. Cholos listen to oldies, greasers listened to Rock
Sweet!
Pomp is awesome madman
Overtime the word was just reclaimed into a more positive aspect in comparison
It can still use it as an insult with context but it’s definitely not common at all
I'm a German greaser
Wait Irish people were greasers? My whole family is Irish and I asked my granddad if there were any greasers around in Ireland, he said not really.
I can't speak fore Ireland but I am talking about American Irish.
Jack Forrester there's plenty of rockers teddy boys and "greasers" in Ireland
There was a lot in mexico too
I’m Italian and I don’t find it offensive
In the 1880s
so i see these videos and im like i can rock that the same way madman can but i just walk to the nearby 7-11 and me being a 13 year old badass lookin greaser out of no where somebody has to yell GREASE explain please i get its like greaser but to my friends it bums them out and to me its like a piece of mud on my jeans nothing but how do i make people stop insultin me and my buds
I have Irish, Italian and German ancestry
Right on cat!
this guy is so cool
He inspired me to be a Greaser and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made!
I haven’t heard what madman has to say but my answer is no because you don’t have to be a certain race to be a greaser
I'm mixed black/Latino and I was made to feel that I couldn't be a real greaser because my ethnic look didn't match. This video really helped me out!
I'm afraid that if I walkout in public being a greaser I'll get laugh at
RVOY Let them laugh, enjoy your style and don't take insults from anyone. You won't ever see 'em again.
+Hog Rider thz for that bro
A greaser don't give a shit, ya dig?
Is Negan a Greaser?
no, just a cool grumpy old man who is convincing.
david bradley lol probably as a kid
I always thought he was.
In school we couldn't say greaser but we used greaseballs haha
Damn dude it's like the school wants you to hate them lol
Is that your actual voice or are you trying to sound like that
It's what he sounds like judging from videos where he talks naturally with Big Bird
wasn't there also an aspect of class? like, upper class folks calling these dudes greasers was insulting, but greasers using the term between themselves was fine, at least according to Hibnton
See unless you did research about the word "Greaser" no one would know that it was a racist word unless you live in places I call "Border Towns" similar to how people who lived near the native american reservations some still use the word "Injun" and unless you did research on that word you wouldn't even know
Was Chuck Berry a black greaser
You’re not supposed to do lung hit on a cigar
Greaser or Greaseballs are italians and everything about that rockabilly culture is literally what they call cultural appropriation today. We don't choose grease back our hair cause it's cool. It's Curly and annoying so anything and everything is used to keep it down and out of the way. We still grow up poor and don't get haircuts often enough. Even a reference to it is in The Godfather with the sit-down with the states man. czcams.com/video/sG2-FI5_INA/video.html You see evern if we are rich in a business suit we are still called "greasers." So basically what you're dressed up like is a 1950s-60s mechanic that thought it was cool to copy poor Italian kids and their hairstyle that we are still forced to deal with. We have also had a history of fascination with motorcycles that continues. Check out motogp's Valentino Rossi. So the annoying part is when people mistake me for people like you.

I'm mixed black/Latino and I was made to feel that I couldn't be a real greaser because my ethnic look didn't match. This video really helped me out!
