That mist filter is really annoying me every time I watch the footage. What do you guys think? Am I crazy?
I love it 😂🎉
It's honestly the first thing that hit me when I started the video (the fuzzy lights). Very distracting. Might be better for bigger venues where it isn't so prominent on the screen? The color grading is incredible by the way.
@@rcw6534 Glad you like it, I wish I was able to myself! 😂
@@seanmbranch Yeah it's even worst at the start because they are right behind me as I'm talking to the camera so indeed very distracting. Thanks for the grade compliment!
I love it on the action shots
I think a mix of dynamic gimbal shots and fast paced hand held shots would be a perfect mix 👌🏼
Good call!
With a zoom lens, balance the gimbal for the focal length at the center of the zoom range. Ex approx 50mm on a 24-70. Also flip out your lcd screen before balancing.
Thanks, I’ll test that next time for sure.
Good quality content as usual. Your footage looks sooo good!
Thank you!
Merci de partager tes connaissances et en plus tu le fais super bien!
Merci à toi!
Great vid E!
Thanks!🙏🏽
Thanks for the review E. I actually like the mist...maybe a slight bit less intense, but it really doesn't bother me. I also love the crowd react shots...they look great and I think the 35mm perspective is superb. I shoot a lot of primes with my sports because I am doing mostly preps since I switch from stills to video often during games. Also, the FX3 has the ability to use Clear Image zoom rocker and it works well and can give you some of the benefits of the zoom without the zoom. And speaking of the zoom, you might check out the 20-70 f4 G ..it's a small and light one that works well on these mini types of gimbals and at a fixed aperture of f4 throughout the range it can be a nice way to change focal lengths quickly without the bulk of the 35-150 or 70-200. One thing I did a lot this past season was put a 20mm or the 20-70 on my gimbal and then keep it aimed at the basket as a bit of a safety angle (angled up and just positioned on the floor near me) and then I could gimbal pre game and intros. The other camera I used was typically the 135 1.8 on the a1 so I could shoot stills and video. I would set the dial so that the stills had my 1/1250 th at f1.8 settings locked in and then the video dial was set for 1/125th at same aperture for 60P video. Occasionally I would have a third body for handheld wide angle front court (like the 35 1.4) using the Peak Design leash to help stabilize.
Thank you for your feedback and all your great suggestions. I'll try to use the clear image zoom next time for sure!
With other gimbals you can control the zoom. You could also attach a follow focus to control zoom
Which gimbal includes control of the camera zoom?
Yes, the frustration my high school sports media students have with using our ZHIYUN is the type of lens to use with our Canon or Sony cameras. The lenses we have are too heavy because their high quality. However, we’re going to try renting a 35mm prime and see how it works. Love this style of filming. Thank you😸
50 mm would probably work out better
Great video, wouldn't have noticed the mist filter if you hadn't brought it up. Then again I wasn't looking for it.
Thanks 😊
Using the gimbal's Go mode might help for sports.
Were you using POV mode or did you also use Pan Follow or Follow mode?
The ability to do underslung mode is great especially when players are running.
Can you access Sony Clear Image Zoom? That might give you some zoom control.
BTW I love the mist filter. The softer glowing lights are less distracting than harsh points.
Thanks for the feedback! I was using the PF mode pretty much the entire time. I'll have to try the Go mode next time for sure though. And yes, you are right, I could have used clear image zoom to change my framing from time to time.
Great video!
Thanks!
just wondering if you have done a video for easy basic video setup just for filming my kids basketball games for coaching and feedback purposes? are things like xbot worth it, or just a parent with a tripod with handle still best option?
I don't know Xbot but a person handling a real camera is always better than an automated setup with some type of AI camera. I don't really make videos for coaching purposes but I made this one about basketball videography czcams.com/video/uUaKb1jEpsg/video.html
what mist filter and strength did you use? i think it looks great btw.
Thanks! It’s a Polar Pro Quartzline Mist filter. It’s roughly 1/4 strength.
@@BeyondTheGame_E I bet 1/8th would look just perfect!
@@paulgero You're probably right!
Great video and reel as always! I shot an ice hockey match using the Weebill S and Lumix GH5s and found the 'go' mode so good, you have to hold down the 'fn' button, it's so reactive - you should try it, if you haven't already. I rarely use the camera handheld because the lack of IBIS, I used a monopod on the day too.
Quick question, I know you do a lot of motion tracking stuff in post and shoot 4K and edit in HD for flexibility, do you think this is still an option after shooting on a gimbal?
Yes I do. But I still export my videos in 4K by the way, not HD.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Oh right. But if you have punched in to avoid loss in resolution, using a 1080p timeline and then export in 4K does that not affect anything or am I misunderstanding?
@@PaulRandles-editspace201 I film in 4K, edit in 4K, and export in 4K. I don't really punch in much. I just film from various angles, zoom in and zoom out, and use the footage in its original form. But if I do punch in a little sometimes (like 10 to 30%), it is rarely noticeable.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Oh right okay cool, I asked about motion tracking originally using a HD timeline with 4K footage - just thought it would be a good option when filming on a gimbal especially on a wider lens. Thanks again for getting back to me!
@@PaulRandles-editspace201 You're right, it is a good option 👍🏽
Hello, what lut do you use for the footage? Also you shot on SLOG 3; 100Frames or 60 and after you slow it?
I shoot in 4K/120 and then slow down the footage in post. I also shoot in SLOG3 and use a Phantom LUT as my utility LUT + my own Ultimate Sports LUT Pack as creative LUTs.
@@BeyondTheGame_E cool! Overexposure in SLOG3 and Nd filter on lens?
@@chrispanagos89 Not overexposed per say, I just import my utility LUT in camera and expose properly for it. And also no this is not an ND filter, just a mist filter.
What camera was this? FX30 or FX3?
Sony FX3
which Peter McKinnon mist filter is that? black or gold?
It’s a Polar Pro but it’s not part of the Peter McKinnon series. It’s the Quartzline.
How did u get that mist effec ?hallation or ur nd filter ?
I used a Polar Pro mist filter.
@@BeyondTheGame_E thank you
You could have used a Sony power zoom lens. That's what I use with my Ronin 4, works great.
True! I don't have one though. Plus, it would have to be an internal zoom otherwise the balancing gets thrown off every time the lens grows or shrinks.
@@BeyondTheGame_E The two PZ lens I have are internal zoom and I am using it with my Ronin 4. Does not throw off the balance at all.
@@EVOlutionHTC4g Sounds like a great setup!
Track artist name?
OMG by Vic Sage
No point using a gimbal if you’re not shooting wide and slowing it down. Just shoot wide and stabe/crop in post?
You can always get away with doing it in post but it always looks more natural when it's done in camera. Plus, doing it in post implies that you will crop 4K footage in a 1080p sequence. I personally like to edit and export in 4K since my videos go to CZcams.
