Around Siam neighborhood has many interesting places you can jump around. Beside those 3 places Chris has mentioned. You can walk to MBK, Central world, Gaysorn plaza, Platinum fashion mall and so on. Those department stores have its own concept. You will find different kind of products in each mall.

Exactly can’t wait for Amarin to be completely remodeled! Wished if you had the BTS card you could walk through Chit Lom station to Central Chidlom - Central Embassy without paying then you could walk from Phloen Chit - National Stadium!
I love Siam Square! To me it feels like an old Main Street you’d find in a smaller town but right smack in the middle of the city! Any place that’s walkable is a big plus in my book!
Siam Square is definitely on our “to do list”.
On a side note, Jib used to hang out here when she was an undergrad at Chula back in... errr... ummm. a few years ago. 😅
As a note; the Siam Square Walking Street only closes traffic for people to walk around on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So any other day of the week they'll let cars go through, hence the bumpers on the street still
One my favourite places in Bangkok it great to see how the area keeps revolving from my first visit in 2006 and my last been 2018. It fantastic area love how the area support locals creativity.. who needs Gucci when you can have a one off from Thai designer. miss you Thailand

Do I even need to say it... another banger! I love Siam Sq. def a great spot to chill. They do some great pop up concerts there all year, I caught Thatanium, Pradaa and Atrilla there a few months back, such a dope show! With only 25 spots on the list, there is no doubt there are gonna be some amazing things that just don't make it as Bangkok has so much to offer, what a tough job you've given yourself.

Wow this shows how long it has been since I was exploring Siam Square. I had no idea of the new streets on the other side of the BTS tracks. I recall just a bunch of small shops all in rows. I’ll check it out. Also thanks for the behind the scenes look. Cool!

Looks amazing but I am a little perturbed by the idea of scratching Wat Arun off the list entirely, The Temple of the Dawn is one of the most amazing things I've seen and I think deserves to make the list...I hope you aren't actually removing it entirely Chris
There also is an ARI Sports Store in the area, in case you are looking for sports gear, and on the top floor they sell jerseys of Thai football-clubs as well, just like Port FC etc...

You guys are doing a great job on the film work. Check out one of the 360 cameras and you can cut your workload in half by catching all of the angles with a single camera. Insta360 makes a couple that are nice and Gopro has the Max. Love the content.

Siam Square have been changed alot after pandemic. Before Covid, they never close traffic if it's not Songran Festival and there are alot of car on Saturday and Sunday. And they had oldschool cinema name Scala that is cheaper than Major and SF for ppl who want to watch a film but it's already gone coz covid.
I used to go there regularly about 40 years ago, mostly to British Council Library at Siam Square Soi 4 to borrow English novels and nearby was Chula Book Store. Did not go there for over 2 decades now. Then there were 4 standalone cinemas if my memory still holds. The opposite was MBK center which was the biggest mobile phone center in Thailand. Don't know whether it is still true today. Don't even know whether British Council library is still there.
Sadly, Lido cinema is last one standing. Scala shut down 2 years ago. Siam Soi 4 doesn't even exist anymore, now it's just part of Siam One shopping mall.

yes, it is readily available. they're going to crack down a bit but right now you don't have to walk more than 20 meters without running into a weed store.

Iconsiam was large and wonderfully decorated . After all, it took several hours to get all the shops and restaurants in close view

I prefer shopping at the Siam district.
The problem with Siam Square One, is that its so open to the air (even inside), that the AC is practically non-existant.
Nobody is happy shopping in 36C.
Scala cinema should have been on the list, but it is demolished. hopefully they keep the promise to rebuild it

It's definitely a cool area now. However, most "new" developments will always have an unintended effect on the people already in that area. There used be a nice home-style Thai restaurant there called "Baan Koon Mae"... the encroaching developed changed it's quality for the worse over the years and they ended up moving into MBK. Haven't tried them since the move, but it was disappointing to see a restaurant my whole family had good memories with slowly fading away. It happens though.

1) Do you get Mango Sticky Rice in Bangkok in end December, or is it the wrong season? (It's the food I'm most excited to try!!)
2) Is Siam Square pedestrian-only throughout the week, or only on certain days?
3) We'll be staying close to the Asok Pier - is the canal boat a good option to travel by for tourists, or are we better off sticking to the trains?

1. It's not mango season but you should be able to find mango sticky rice anyways.
2. Only on certain days.
3. I love traveling by Khlong taxi. It's fun, cheap and avoids traffic.

While I agree with you to some extent (a mall full of standard corporate brands is a mall in any major global city), I’m left wondering if you even watched to video. What makes this area impressive is the public spaces with music and culture, and the modern mix of design and architecture. Plus you have an impressive selection of restaurants and food vendors. We’re going there shortly and I’m looking forward to it. If you’re a fan of Mark’s #13 you’ll seen that Chris actually moved it up on his list.
