Actually 印尼 was used on channel 8 news in the past when we were more aligned with Taiwanese Chinese. It was later when we aligned to mainland China that they started saying 印度尼西亚 on the news. If you ask the older folks, they would always say 印尼. Another example is Australia - it used to be 澳洲 (Taiwanese), and now you hear 澳大利亚 (mainland Chinese) on channel 8 news. Yet another example, New Zealand - from 纽西兰 to 新西兰.

I've never met anyone from Timor (just their Australian-born Chinese-Timorese children) so I want to apologise for what my country (Indonesia) had done to Timor Leste. The Indonesian government back then, was lead by a dictatorship called the New Order Regime that was highly influenced by Cold War politics. They massacred hundreds of thousands of Indonesians regardless of ethnicity or religion, and caused an exodus of foreign nationals as well. But the country has been on a not perfect, but better path since the dictatorship ended in 1998. Hopefully we can get along.
