The new Neuron is the brand’s first lightweight electric mountain bike and teams a competitive price tag with a carbon frame and Bosch’s SX motor.
Knocking out 600W of peak power and 55Nm of torque, mated to a 400Wh battery, it’s designed to blend immense power with decent battery life, all wrapped in a lightweight package.

being able to get both the carbon Specialized Kenovo and Levo SL's at LBC's for less than £4k in the end of year sales did that.
You need to check the KTM E-Scarp before stating this title. And I even would go back to the lapierre e-zesty...
I am glad you mentioned the weight. I tried a few eBikes last year at a demo. They all climbed great. But I absolutely hated all the added weight on the downhills or on the stuff I normally like to jib around with. It made me just want to be seated and ride through everything rather than getting out of the saddle and moving the bike around, popping up on things and....well... having fun.
The weight is the killer for me personally on a full-fat eMTB. I'm not skilled so jibbing and popping are not my strong point by any stretch, but I do like to feel more involved and in control of the bike. This is the closest I've felt on an eMTB so far, while still having almost the same punch of power and certainly enough to make me think I didn't want or need any more power!
Can you compare this canyon and Scott lumen? Weight, geometry? Thanks
Its quite a different bike to the Lumen. Travel numbers are similar, but the Lumen is lighter, has less power and has steeper, shorter geometry.
We tested the Lumen 910 and it weighed 18.15kg in a medium, so around 1.6kg lighter than the Canyon. It comes with paper thin Schwalbe Wicked tyres though, which accounts for nearly a third of that.
I haven't ridden the Lumen, but have ridden the Spark which the Lumen is closely related too.
From brief experience, I'd take the Canyon over the Lumen.

You should check out the Transalpes trail/enduro mtb. Made in Switzerland, 14kg. Not cheap, but they look great. I’ll stick to my non electric HT for now! But i might change my mind in 20y!

Those Transaples bikes look interesting, but they look to have some major compromises to hit those "claimed" weights! No dropper, 2.25, paper thing tyres and lots of expensive options.
Even on their own configurator, we couldn't get anywhere near the claimed lightest possible choice after a very quick play around!
I love this category of bike it’s suddenly erupted with brands bringing out SL e-bikes on what feels like a weekly basis I have a TQ powered bike and I love it and it feels very similar to a an analogue bike, very exciting time with Devinci launching a lightweight e-bike and Orbea launching their new Rise next week 😆

Nice bike and your presentation too. But Cube's AMS Hybrid One44 offering seems significantly better. It has the same engine, much better features for the similar price and is 1-2 kg lighter. Because of this, I also do not fully understand your choice to present only Canyon to the public. Anyway, I find your presentation useful and I congratulate you on it.

The Cube looks like a very close competitor, on price and we'd want to ride it to see how it fares.
On paper, the geometry looks steeper and less stable and the tyre choice on the base model and SLT look pretty light duty for this kind of bike. The TM's look better though! Hopefully we can try one soon.
Bike manufacturers can keep spec'ing headset cable routed frames and I can keep spending my money elsewhere.... Careful what battles you want to add to your fight bike industry, as you all have your hands full in the current financial climate.
We wonder how much longer they'll do it for, but I think the current struggles are about much more than headset cable routing!
Perhaps brands see them as slightly cheaper to produce with few cable ports on the frames?
The most important thing about this bike is the price. If it’s another 8K SL bike then nobody will be give a damn in this market. Bring it down to 5-6K then it make a dent.
We think that's what makes this bike important, the entry model costs under £5k and is very nicely specified.
This CF9 model tested is significantly cheaper than the competition. The equivilent spec Levo SL is over £2K more, Whyte's E-Lyte RSX is over £1k more and there are more examples.
Cube's is perhaps closest with the AMS Hybrid One44 in terms of price
It seems like a great bike, it's unfortunate that it has headset cable routing... Otherwise it seems like a great bike
The headset routing is annoying, but the motor rattle is more so! It is a very good allrounder all the same
You mentioned there is no full power SL but there is. Giant sells one. Advanced E+ Elite.
It's a fair observation, but while the Giant matches the torque (85Nm) of the bigger ebikes, peak power is only 250W from the limited numbers we can see online; Giant don't make it clear.
Seems to take the opposite approach to the Bosch motor, which focuses on peak power over peak torque, as the two are different.
@@bikeradar Sure. But it seems to me that Giant is continually ignored because it's not a niche brand, and the bike industry is nothing if not niche. On paper, the Giant should run circles around this bike, yet very few of the major bike reviewers give it a mention. I'm not a Giant fan by any means, but I'm trying to buy a SL eMTB and I can't find many decent reviews or comparisons of Giants products. Having a Giant LBS just down the road, I'd like to make an informed decision.
Disagree that this bike is a game changer, it’s basically a copy of the Orbea Rise which has been out for about 5 years. Package is bit better value, which you would expect with direct to consumer. I prefer to buy from a shop personally, easier if any issues.

I keep wondering if that LT e-bikes are for me if I can regularly do trail rides around 25km 1000m up in 2.5-3h. Would I do much more laps on such light e-bike?
Do it.
You probably wouldn't do more laps, but you would do them quicker.
I can do big-ish rides, 20-30 miles, 1000m+ of climbing, but I'd be feeling pretty tired afterwards.
After 20 miles/1000m on the Neuron:ONfly, I drained the battery (without the range extender) and then I drove home and went for a 15 mile/500m ride on the road bike with my girlfriend and still felt fresh!
@@bikeradar Thank you for your answer, it helps me a lot. So it means that if I want to spend more time on the trails, I should think about full power ebike with at least 620W battery? I do not want to be less tired :) just want to ride more :) Although still do not like full fat ebikes because of the constant buzz noise, weight and bulky look. Maybe I have to get over it. Or buy LT ebike with removable battery and get a 2nd battery to replace it in the middle of the ride. Would it be some good idea?
@janwilczewski3469 , you can buy the Bosch SX, so the LT bike, and use it with ECO mode. Or you can even pedal with the engine off. You will have an easier bike for 40-50km with 1000m+ and you will also train. In the end you will make much longer laps with the same energy consumption on your part.
When will we have lightweight 700 watt batteries ?
That is anyones guess, but we figure it will be a good while yet, battery tech just isn't there at a mass production scale yet
It is getting better. Orbea just released the new Rise. It uses 21700 batteries that have a 19% greater energy density than the 18750 cells used in almost all other bike batteries. In the Bosch SX system shown here, the are using some type of more advanced battery to give there battery a higher than normal energy density.
pretty funny that people are just glossing over cannondales moterra neo SL. 46 pounds in a large w an 85 nm motor.

What is the maximum weight of the ebike and the rider?
Maximum system weight is 130kg
Bosch sx only has 55nm of torque.

Its a lovely looking bike! There's no mistaking its an electric bike, but it sure is pretty!
To heavy for e Light eMTB. Not more as 37 pounds.
It rides a lot lighter than you think and we've found at the moment, there are compromises with the very lightest of eMTBs. They're often equipped with forks and tyres that can't cope with how hard they can be ridden.
Granted, as they come setup for some people and some riding, they could be perfect, but we have found the slightly heavier bikes are more capable and don't lose much anywhere else
I predict I have about 20 yrs until retirement, they are shitty and noisy now but maybe when I'll be the target customer they'll be ok 😂

Very possible! I think we're kind of in Gen 1.5 of electric bikes, there are still little niggles and foibles with them, but think of how far mobile phones and other tech has come in the last 20 years... chances are they'll iron them out!
Clickbait! Total nonsense! This bike doesn’t offer anything that isn’t already on the market. The Orbea Rise did this years ago.
The Rise is a fantastic bike, slightly less power. if a touch more torque and the carbon models are more expensive than this bike.
While I might not have explained it 100% clearly, I think the Neuron:ONfly might (and might is the key word, not saying it WILL) show how the wider industry could go; direct buy and in theory better value.
I'd love to do a head to head with the Rise, as I haven't ridden that bike yet. Compared to the Levo SL though for example, the Canyon (and other Bosch SX bikes) are in a different league in terms of motor performance
@@bikeradar how the industry could go… direct buy… what the hell are you talking about? We already have a ton of direct to consumer brands. Nothing is “going” in that direction. It’s already there! The bike industry appears to be filled with completely incompetent people who somehow think that marketing triumphs all, As we can see from the huge string of bankruptcies. Even bike reviewers talk such utter nonsense that it makes intelligent people’s ears bleed! Adding ten more torque doesn’t have a radical impact on the bike, it a small difference that accommodates various personal preferences. Stop trying to make mountains out of mole hills in a bid to create hype around something that simply doesn’t warrant it! The first Spec SL was worth the hype because it really did offer something new, but this bike isn’t.

I'm just intrigued to see where things do end up going and in my (Tom's) opinion this bike in particular got me thinking.
I rode it, I'm impressed by it (as a rider who doesn't particularly buy into ebikes in the first place) and I asked a question based on my thoughts on it. Doesn't mean I'm right and have all the answers by any stretch!
@@bikeradar the direct to consumer model is basically dead! Or at best at a stand still! It comes with unbelievable challenges and excruciatingly high costs. Just look at the prices at Canyon and Propain. The e bikes aren’t actually cheaper than the real world prices for equivalent quality brands, because there is no real way to eliminate the necessity for physical service. You can outsource phone hotlines, but you can’t have a warehouse full of Indian bike mechanics fixing people’s bikes in Germany! If anything you get less for your money. A Kenevo SL is unquestionably more bike and better components than a Neuron, yet I can pick one up for the same price!There is a reason that Canyon service partners are sprouting like mushrooms after rain! And this new Neuron is about as much of a game changer as Delorean was for the automotive industry! What you are doing is advertising for Canyon. Nothing more!

I think it’s kinda sad that, for a channel that creates cycling content, you have a thumbnail questioning whether a bike with a motor is the future of mountain biking…rather disappointing

Yeah dude come on most people buy electric mountainbike, it is the future. Especially if the electric bikes get lighter. Imagine a bike like this with a removable battery so you can choose to ride with or without right at home so you dont get tempted to turn it on. I have so many friends with just ebikes. I ride a „normal“ one and riding with them sucks. I would love a light ebike that feels like a normal bike and in best case with removable battery. So if i ride alone like most of the time i can go without and if i ride with ebikers i can turn it on.
It is a question we have to ask though. Things are changing, e-bikes are becoming more popular, like it or not.
As I say in the video, I am a sceptic of ebikes, and I flat out will admit (and do in the video) I don't get on with the heaviest, full power eMTBs. But if the industry and majority of the market are heading that way, we have to ask the question whether bikes like this are the future for most people.
I'm also a massive petrol head and I'd love it if we could would still be able to drive V8s and V10s in the future, but the likelihood is we won't.
There will always be hold outs to anything new or claimed to be the future and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!
I don't like E bike hassle. And the prices are absolutely rediculous. The carbon scrap...I don't want it. I don't even want one for free.

@@EmandSz When I turn 75 or need it to keep biking I would, but I will extend that period as long as possible. I don't hate E bikers though I can imagine people like it and it sure has speed differences so it can help to cover distances...when you plan things perfectly ... which never turns out perfectly, it might work. But the need for reloading and hassle. Just when I need one, when I am too old to move paddles...than maybe. I love nature so why make it more difficult for nature as well right? I rather keep it mechanical as long as possible. I am so glad I don't travel with girlfriends or bikes,...I mean...I can already imagine the discussions of where to need to reload the battery and where it is cheaper, and uffffffff....the sense to it. Than nature, I think nature loves mechanical bikers a litter more. Why seems logical, everything needs a battery these days to look cool...it's just not me, yet.
And isn't great you have the choice! For people who want this, or another e-bike, there's so much choice.
For people who want non-assisted, regular MTBs, you still have loads of choice ❤️ And even better, you have the bike you own now, which is awesome!
